Being a teenager myself who is about to enter a adulthood in a year and few months , totally agree on age restriction. I think the minimum age should be 12+. Forget about the parent, I, myself won't allow my 10.3 years sis to have a account in any social networking site. 10 years is very small. In this age, you should actually be watching cartoons and few disney movies. Watching IB, DBO or any other indian telly is not wrong but still you need a parent or elders guidance. There are some scene in the telly which is not appropriate for childrens. My mom still now monitor me and my elder brother with the movies and serials.

I used to watch SonPari, ShakaLaka bhoom bhoom , etc etc around 10 , playing snake and ladder game and also Super Mario around 10. I miss Super Mario...😆
I still watch cartoons with my sis. I enjoy watching Doraemon and other cartoons.
Is it only me and my sis who wake up fast on sundays just to keep the cartoon channel before the cartoon movie starts. I used to not sleep properly because I was so excited to watch the movie the next day. Its the age of watching cartoons and enjoying your life with ballons , chocolate and other things.

😛

It's almost impossible to ban people on IF but putting a warning will atleast make kids realise that they are doing something which they shouldn't do at this age.
But Parents should take care of these things.
Firstly how can a parent give their 10 year old kid a smartphone?
I got my first smartphone when I was in 12th standard and here 10 12 year olds are using IF!

Well after i started this group to understand how we can keep age restriction , i found out people join at 8 and all... i felt so bad .. atleast few kids are here who are truthful and tell their age( i admire that they are truthful), but if 8 year old can read all the posts here , i have no words to express...

how can an 8 year old get access to internet without parental monitoring? even with parental monitoring is it good to be on social network so early 😭 . ( Few kids parents would not even know that they are here)

what a sad state we are in ...i am definitely going to message the Forum handlers about the issue...atleast a warning message on posts would be good.

Hey sorry for interjecting.

But about this 8 year old thing... I guess you need to cross check that because I definitely see some more things to that.

I would have said on her thread as well but I don't want to get into this anymore because she certainly doesn't understand that people here are just concerned and advising for her good

IF should seriously consider age restriction... Minimum can be 14, which seems reasonable as by that time they can at least make of a choice of reading something or not...

Not everybody is going to be truthful but then again, not everyone is going to lie either! As a social responsibility IF can do this, rest is upto parenting.

And it is not just about Adult content in post or ffs, it's more about taking something to heart and getting depressed about it... Young kids can't bear the negativity in a forum or take criticisms against them or their their favs in the right way... They are too young for such things and It is just gng to affect their psychology negatively...

Hi
Thought I'd jump on here. It is worrying that members of such a young age can sign up to any forum. Either here on IF or anywhere else. But that is not necessarily the site's fault.

The points have been made are that:
1. Certain content in the threads can be unsuitable for young minds
(I remember a number of threads where the content was hilarious but definitely adult on one forum)
2. Some FF's will and do have adult content. To restrict this for a writer is curtailing or reducing their creativity.
3. It is a parents' responsibility to police what content their child has access to. However, we all know that some youngsters will create an id.

So is there a solution? I'm just putting this out there to see if there is a viable way. A suggestion can be made and then it's up to the site developers to see if they can work something out.
My thoughts are;
1a. Create a separate area, as created for the mods, coolbies, viewbies etc where writers and those who want to discuss certain topics can chat without worrying about underage persons.
b. In order to do this a password would need to be generated by the site and sent to the users email address to allow access.
c. Before this can be done a tighter process of age verification needs to be implemented. I'll leave that for the admins to discuss a suitable form of verification.
d. As with all things the above has flaws, a determined child may gain access but it's a start.

Anyone else have any thoughts?
