16. A STRAY BULLET

Half an hour later

Aaryan, Milind, Junhui, Ajay, Neha, Rajashree and Shreyas looked at the proceedings. Thirteen AK 47 s and three kg cocaine, which was worth crores had been confiscated from the house.

The surly actor was being led to the police van, when he suddenly turned.

He grabbed the constable who was leading him and snatched his revolver.

Aiming it in the direction of the officers, he managed to fire one shot before he was subdued by the police.

The bullet hit Aaryan's hand and he doubled up, surprised by the attack.

The bullet had found its mark.

Neha rushed to help him. Junhui turned to look at the man, with a scorching look in her eyes.

He held the bleeding hand and walked towards the man. "Tere jaise ***** ko jeene ka koi adhikaar nahi hain. Jo cheezen aapne apne beti ke kamre mein chipayi thi ussise tumhari beti jaise kayi hazar masoomon ki jaan chali jaa sakti hain."

Aaryan looked towards the house.

In the large doorway, stood the unfortunate wife, looking stricken. The two children were peeping from behind her. She led them inside.

Aaryan once more looked at Shivi Pal.

His face was now contorted with guilt and full realization of his actions.

The bullet had found its mark.

"Isse le jao" Aaryan said.

17. COMING CLOSER

Then Parth narrated their raid. They had raided a warehouse on the coast, in which, they has suspected the presence of illegal firearms.

The raid had been conducted along with the Coastal Police, and it had been hugely successful. The illegal weapons had introduced a new direction to the whole investigation and Parth had reported the matter immediately.

Deepika sighed, "Aaryan agli baar aise nahi chalege. I am coming next time."

Junhui was leaning against the counter. She said, "Sure. Waise bhi doosri team ke saath ek officer kam tha."

Taara was looking at Parth with wide eyed admiration. Junhui turned away.

Deepika said, "Good work."

Her eyes traveled between Parth and Junhui and back again. Suddenly she caught Aaryan looking at both of them too. They exchanged a furtive, secret smile.

Junhui sat beside Aaryan and stretched like a cat. Her short brown hair were ruffled.

She reached out for the newspaper exactly at the moment Parth reached out for it.

He looked at her hand hovering over it . Black and silver thin metallic bangles today, he noted, and withdrew his hand.

She took the newspaper calmly from the table, stretched and made for the exit.

Parth looked at his watch. It was nearly one pm.

"Aaj ke liye bahut hua naa? I think I will ask the others to go home." He said.

"Parth, maine sab ko bol diya hain....." Deepika said.

"Okay'.Mujhe Ajay-Boxer se....."

Muttering, he too, followed Junhui out.

Taara too jumped up with an air of determination. She walked towards the door purposefully.

Aaryan sat looking into his coffee.

Deepika stirred her juice awkwardly.

Aaryan's injured hand was on the table.

She inched her hand across over to his........

Aaryan felt the small warm hand on his and for a heart stopping moment, he was wildly happy........

The euphoria evaporated away, as Deepika pulled his hand and examined his wound. "Dard to nahi ho raha hain naa?" she asked.....

"Nahi" he muttered distractedly.....the catch in her voice had inspired dreams in him.....

Never ever had he thought Deepika Ghosh's touch would send such jolts through his body...but the reason behind this.....was proving to be irritatingly elusive.........
