18. THE THIN ICE

Neha's cubicle

Junhui sat on her chair and began clearing the desk'.. She stuffed the CDs and the floppies into her drawer and was cramming the Financial Times into her drawer. She paused for a moment and opened the page.

"The Mehra Empress" the words glared at her. She shut it noisily and pushed it into the overfilled drawer.

"Hhmm" Somebody cleared their throat behind her.

She turned around, "Kya-hain?" she managed to say.

Parth Mathur was standing behind her, entirely too close for her comfort.

He was looking at her, an amused gleam in his eyes.

She wondered, 'Had he seen the article?'

No, he merely asked, and quite curtly, "Neha kahan hain?"

"Wo toh chali gayi'.." she replied.

"Oh'." He hesitated. "Mujhe thodi information chahiye thi'.kya tum'.?"

"Taara ?" she uttered the word in a flat, level voice.

Parth winced. The coldness and ignorance hurt much more than outright dislike..........and indifference.......

"I do not want it by the......ah.........usual channels........"

Junhui raised an eyebrow in surprise'.. "Kis par?"

The names he uttered caused her to frown. The information he wanted made her second eyebrow rise.

"You sure?" she asked.

He nodded.

Eager to do something which meant breaking rules, "Mummy ko pata nahi chalna chahiye, okay?" she said gleefully'..

He sat down beside her........

"Mummy?" he asked.......

Taara looked at her boss and Janhavi madam talking.....

.It hurt her heart....She knew'.she was certain of it..........Parth was besotted by the tall, handsome woman......what a pity she was unacquainted with that.......

And the real twist of the whole affair was, thought Deepika as she saw them talking that Parth was oblivious to Taara's intentions'..

Aaryan looked at the couple talking and thought'the main matter was that Parth Mathur was also unaware of Janhavi Mehra's feelings''..

19. DISCREET INVESTIGATION

Junhui laughed......... "Oh....sorry.......mera matlab tha Deepika..........."

"Mummy? Aap log use Mummy bulate ho?"

"Tabhi jab wo paperwork karvati hain'."

He too smiled warmly'"College main bhi aisi hi thi'..Hamesha sabhi assignments waqt par!"

Junhui too chuckled''. "Par' Aar-"

She drew in a breath'..

"Par kya?"

"Kuch nahi'.."

He stared at her'..Feeling his gaze on her, she felt unnaturally hot.......

"Okay theek hain'..Tumhe kya lagta hain'.Kya woh'..Aaryan ko'.pasand karti.........?"

"Shayad haan."

There was a triumphant smile on her face.

Interested, he asked, "Kyun?"

She just shrugged as her fingers flew over the keys with alarming speed.

Parth was staring at her wrist'..the glint of the silver in the light'.the clinking''

"Parth? Parth!"

"Kya?"

"Ye dekho'.."

He turned towards the screen in anticipation.........

20. NEAR TRUCE

For the next hour, Parth and Junhui sat side by side'..talking, laughing and mostly, in Junhui's case hacking for information, and in Parth's case, printing it and occasionally staring at the bangles'..

She leaned back for a moment and closed her eyes........

He kept his hand on hers...........

Her eyes flew open in surprise........... Her pulse grew erratic and her cheeks, scarlet'.

He hastily withdrew it........... "Thank you'."

"Oh..........." She said......... "No problem..............Now you owe me a treat'." She added, her eyes twinkling''

"Hmmm'." He said, pretending to be thinking'.. "How about an ice cream? Chocolate or butterscotch?"

"Make it two'.one chocolate one butterscotch'."

He bowed.

Her cell began ringing'..

She looked at the number and cut it'. "Chale?"

"Hmm'.."

The cell rang again.

"Ek minute'.sorry'" she apologized'.. "Kya hain Vishwas? Nahi, aaj nahi '.dekhenge'nahi phone mat karo'.."

She switched off her phone'.

He asked her in an oddly light tone, "Am I keeping you from something?"

She looked at him, confused......

"Please mere saath aane ke liye apni date mat cancel karna'.."

Her eyes blazed. "Oh'.thank you for excusing me'..Taara!"

She shouted out the last word.

Taara came to her side, utterly surprised, "Yes madam?"

She looked at her and then at Parth suggestively'.. Grabbing her red sack she walked away angrily, running her hand through her hair........

For the next hour, Parth and Junhui sat side by side'..talking, laughing and mostly, in Junhui's case hacking for information, and in Parth's case, printing it and occasionally staring at the bangles'..
