Great posts everyone
I loved the cloth scene

What I interpreted was that cloth represents dharma
The dharma of the society was getting away because it was based on abstract it didn't have answers
So the prakriti questioned and stopped it
In sense sita asked for proof
It told both run in equilibrium

Guys it was a heartbreaking episode yesterday. But instead of crying I was laughing and applauding CVs for the screenplay. Reason. What a mess for Raghuvansh. A man who is given the choice between power of Ayodhya and his wife decides to sacrifice his power and stand by his wife. Because he is right. He cannot convince the praja that Sita is pure. It has to be felt. And when his judgement is not respected he should not be the king. So he decides to let go of the power. He goes to the room and tells his ancestors they should forgive him as he could not keep his promise. If he doesn't stand by his wife who has stood with him in thick and thin he cannot abandon her.

Then comes the ancestors voice. He cannot do that. Because he has given Vachan to the praja that his personal desires will be never come in between serving them. If he leaves Ayodhya then that is the end of Raghuvansh and he will have the debt to his ancestors which he will never be able to fulfill.

Ram is finally forced by the voice of his ancestors to take the decision to abandon Sita for his Kul's reeti, neeti and maryada. I loved that it is the ancestors who finally make Ram take the decision of abandoning Sita.

Now what is the great thing about Raghuvansh. What is the so called greatness of Raghuvansh propogate. Vachanpalan the first thing, Sacrifice, Swadharma and Rajadharma. And how does this things happen. When at the receiving end of this pillars is a woman. For Vachanpalan Harischandra sells Taramati and his son Rohit. Shanta and other daughter's are sacrificied because a male heir is needed. Kausalya should follow the rajdharma of allowing king to marry more than once so as to have a heir to the throne. Queens should do the swadharma of giving heir to the throne by carrying the child 9 months in the womb, but then face the question what is the big deal. In short for Raghuvansh or in general Ayodhya the hypocrite society that it is woman is a property that is dispensable according to man's wishes. I mean she is of no use if she doesn't satisfy a man's desires.

Now who is Ram. He is a man born to a father who for his sake decided to dispense of his daughter or also other daughters of Ayodhya. It didn't matter whether they wanted that life or not. They were supposed to give it as the king wanted it. His journey from boy to man started when a woman demanded her rights to the king. Kaikeyi. A vachan was given to her and she asked it. But the world blamed her. His father sacrificed her. But for Ayodhya it didn't matter. Because after all it was Kaikeyi's fault alone. The vachanpalan of Raghuvansh Dasrath would have broken it, if Kaikeyi had yielded to him or Ram would have yielded to him. It is Kaikeyi's obstinate stand that finally gave justice to Kausalya.

Now where is the mess for Raghuvansh coming. They treat Sita also dispensable irrespective of her carrying the heir to the throne. Well we don't boy or girl yet, but still the fact Sita is pregnant gives a hope that she is carrying heir to the throne. Note the point a kingdom that has gone to great extend to get a heir to the throne abusing Prakriti, that kingdom is going to get a heir the natural way due to the love shared by the king and the queen. But well the kingdom or the ancestors don't want it. Why . If Sita goes Ram can remarry. From that he will have heir, so what is the big deal with Sita. Let her go. Let him sacrifice her. Afterall Raghuvansh has survived this long doing this sacrifices only. It will again sustain. So Raghuvansh wants Ram not Sita and the ancestors use all the funda like vachan, debt to ancestors blah blah to make Ram take the decision of abandoning his wife.

Raghuvansh forgets that they claim to do vachanpalan. They will lose life, but will hold on to the vachan. What none of them know is the fact that Ram has given a vachan to Sita. A husband has given a vachan to his wife with Prakriti as Karmasakshi that in his life he will have only one wife.

Yes Ram can go back on that vachan only Sita knows it. But he doesn't. He sticks to it. The ancestors, Ayodhya everyone shivers as there is no heir for the throne. King will not remarry and no one could go near him because he is only doing the famed vachan palan of Raghuvansh. Raghuvansh needs Sita. Ayodhya needs Sita. For the first time they realize woman is not dispensable if a man decides to stick to the promises given to her. When a man decides to follow the maryada in right sense.

Sita is pure or impure becomes secondary. They hypocrisy of Ayodhya comes in the open. It wants heir to the throne which only Sita can give. And what Mahalakshmi does. She gives the heirs, but in front of the world proves her chastity discarding the society who questioned her, but at the same time vindicating her husband's decision of taking her back.

Ram takes the blame. He allows his wife to take a stand for herself. He shows if he abandons her, she also has the right to abandon him and the society that he represents. He also shows because he truly loved her, truly wanted to protect her, truly cared for her, truly tried to do everything in his power to make this world understand her purity she gave him everything a man wants in a life. Name, fame, wealth, power and children. The heirs were not Sita's gift to the society, it was her gift to Ram for the love he showered on her. For the trust he placed on her. Ram shows the world Ram is nothing without Sita. He is Siyaram. In short unless a man coexists with woman, unless he respects Prakriti the end of his so called vansh will happen sooner than expected. Yes Ram saves Raghuvansh, he creates new maryada in Raghuvansh. Alas only Sita banishment is looked at. Not the intent of both Ram and Sita. Ram wanted to give Sita a chance and Sita never rejected Ram, she only rejected the society that forced him to abandon her.

One more point Shanta goes, Kausalya succumbs, Kaikeyi demands and what does Sita do. She acts in such a way so that Ram abandons her. He abandons a woman who did AP. Sanskriti hypocrisy is exposed because in all other cases it was poor men the victims who extracted heavy price from their women. Sita refuses to be a victim, forcing Ram to make her a victim.

Excellent post Shruthi. You echoed my thoughts accurately. I hated the scene between the voices from the past ancestors and Ram. It for me represented the modern hypocritical society with its high moral ground forcing women to be at the mercy of traditions. Widowhood, rape, subjugation all is dealt with a remorseless attitude by society. Women are either seen as victims or deserving of the crime against them by being dressed in a certain way or being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
When you look at Sita or Draupadi they were quite strong in their convictions. But they both needed the voice of Ram and Krishna to help reach the society. Our scriptures glorify both the equality and the interdependence of power or Shakti and the manifestation or purushattva to complete a civilization. Sad to see that we have as humans lost our way somewhere today.
@Sanjana In kali yug also we have many Ram but they are completely overshadowed by the egos that are cloaked with the masks of rules and traditions .If it feels sometimes that He is not around, then think of it as Sita's vanvass, He is just biding his time to dispense justice.

Sita is portrayed as extremely well read able to understand intent and action and the gaps that exist. Ram faced with the dilemma is extremely weak. Unable to face the reality that he cannot separate from his Sithe. When he is unable to get his brother's do his bidding through affection, he resorts to use his power as rhe ruler.
Sita in the clothes of a recluse has sent shivers down his spine. She will be hurt by his decietful manner of sending her away , yet be able to find the peace within and raise her babies. Ram on the other hand carries the guilt alone... in his heart he did her wrong as the king...the redemption is by ensuring he abides by his promise in solitude. A parochial patriarchal society dictates its terms conditions and laws that has no space for path breakers who can totally transform the laws. It can be modified to accommodate ones value.

Vidya that is why Sita remains Janaki and Ram becomes Siyaram. Janaka becomes immortal, the kul of Mithila becomes immortal by one Janaki. The education and upbringing Janaka gave to his daughter, she carried it throughout her life by not changing herself, but changing the man and the ecosystem wherever she went.
Raghuvansh which prides on its male heirs needs a boy every generation for its existence, while girl well bought up by her father immortalizes him and his kul.
Same with Panchali. Irrespective of having a son Drupada is known through Draupadi.
And in current situation in India we dont have to look far. Just look the dynasty of the grand old party of India. The lineage is not through the son of Jawaharlal Nehru, but through the daughter and still our country wants sons.
Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi whatever her faults created an identity of her own in the political scenario of Patriarchal India
