What can I write about today's episode. It is an analyst's delight when the scene you analyzed plays out in front of you. I guess I don't have to talk anything specific about Sita's dialogues, but still would briefly touch upon it. But more than that I will touch upon the walk of Siya Ram today. From the time I have seen those parallel tiles I have been waiting for it. I was waiting to see how they will show the new line. How they will show the new maryada Ram has set. CVs did it mind-blowingly. Yes there were dialogues. But Ramayan has its own share of mysteries into it, which you will get only if you observe. The line is what defined it.

Now go back, go back to the first scene where Janak draws a line and Sita emerges. Mithila which has a Sanskriti that respects woman, a Sanskriti where a man is able to draw a perfect line in the field with the farming equipment Mahalakshmi comes. Note that the equipment is made of gold when Janak draws the line. That shows the meeting point of Sanskriti and Prakriti in perfect harmony as gold represent Sanskriti.

Go back to the scene before Swayamvar where Ram is helping an old woman to plough the field. He is unable to draw the line. He tries ,but he fails. Then Lakshman comes and tell him Vishwamitra has asked to meet him. Ram goes but not before telling the lady that he will try to draw the line perfectly. It showed Ram who has come from a culture which doesn't respect woman was unable to draw the line. He was not a man who was like his predecessors who believed in male supremacy. He was a man who believed in co-existence, who respected all the woman in his life. But how to ensure the society which he inhabits can be made that tolerant he was unsure at that point. Hence his inability to draw the line.

Go to today's scene. Sita come in bridal dress. Then she walks with Ram. Note the walk. Sita walks on one set of tiles, while Ram on other. Then at sometime point she stops and allows him to continue on the new tiles. That walk signified, Ram drawing the new maryada, while Sita walked on the old maryada. His illusion of following the old maryada was achieved through her. While his real intention was creating the new maryada. She stops at a point, while he continues. That means they have succeeded in creating the new maryada. Now the time to call the shots. Note the point where Sita stops. 4 paths meet. Knowledge, wealth, power meet to give moksha. Most important the power. Sita has the knowledge of what her duty as a woman is, her wealth is her children, the power is given to her by her husband by asking her to come wearing the wedding dress and she starts the play.

Brutally she questions. Sanskriti falls at her feet. She tells he is just a reflection. Reflection of the society that loves to blame the woman. Because that is how the society is made to view woman. Queens asks sorry. Sita gives back telling today you have come to take me. What about the scores of Sita's who never got a chance to explain themselves. Who didn't even know what their crime is for the punishment they got. Don't they deserve justice. When she denies death to Ayodhyavasis, she is making them live. Live a life more painful than death which they get by her rejection. The pain the males gives to woman through their subtle rejection. When they say they want a son, when they pray for a son when they have a daughter. When terms like Kanyadan, Gothra Change, and name change is used to rip her identity. When she is raped and she get questioned. When a man runs behind her, marries her, but she is called the person who has trapped the boy. When it is told she is not supposed to have any ambition, dreams and her dreams should be around marriage and motherhood. Marriage and motherhood is her ultimate achievement not the trophy she get for her performance in professional sphere. It pales in comparison to the achievement of marriage. Marriage and parenthood is important. The most beautiful phases of a human's life. But is it important only to a woman. Doesn't man want marriage, don't he wants to be a father. Well the questions seems irrelevant. Today society tells girls are running away from marriage, but doesn't ask itself why it is so. What has gone so wrong for the girls of today not to want marriage a beautiful bond. I read some artice in newspaper where it was mentioned girls are becoming less feminine. Question. Why. Why a woman let go of her nurturing ability. Why she is letting go of her loving nature. Why she doesn't want to do the traditional sringaar. Because she is not appreciated for those. She is belittled for doing those. I know there will be more questions and answers in tomorrow's episode. So stopping my rant today for this episode. You can add on.

Shruthi, today when Luv Kush wanted to bring Siya
Ram stopped them and said that she will come on her own
I felt there is some significance behind it
Any idea what it is?

Missed that part Mano. As I said touch, touch is what can stop Sita from not doing what she intends to do. I said in last episode also. Her husband's touch, her children's touch she will become a wife, a mother, she will not be able to do what she intends to do.
Just the tough thing Ram gave himself not seeing her when she was banished from palace, Sita is doing the same by not touching her loved ones. If you see her, today she walks at a distance. Ram allows her. Her determined walk was a treat today. Completely looked " Aag se Janmi "

they kind of stressed on that part
So thought that it has some symbolism

but it's really heart breaking as Ram and kids
will have to just live only with her memories,
as she leaves punishing the society

Though Ram appeared confused for sometime
But when Siya was questioning the society and mothers
Ram had a silent smile on his face
Like this is what he wanted

Awesome analysis Shruthi. You look for the hidden objects so clearly. That is why I make it a point to read ur analysis along with the written update...
The 'line' wow how it opened up with you analysis and I was thinking why should they have a scene before swayamvar that of Ram trying to plough the farm...awesome

I also liked the order Sita indirectly bids farewell with all the three males in her life santhan (wealth), King (power), and finally her dad and first guru (knowledge) before going back to the divine(moksha)

@vd thanks dear you bought up the point of 3 males. Father, husband, kids. Yes father gives knowledge, husband gives her the power and kids are her wealth. Or rather I would say parents give you knowledge, your spouse is your power and kids wealth.
Actually this is what I want to look at the farewell thread 4 nights analysis. Getting connections now. Hopefully with tomorrow's epi I can write the analysis for farewell thread.

@Mano that smile with pain. Ashish nailed it

I will be honest here. I don't have it in me to watch Uttarkand, especially one which is touching on so many uncomfortable questions. It is too real and too close to me. And I have been very grateful that through these threads I can always come back and leaf through with a bit of detachment.
However, now that I knew that this was it, I couldn't stop myself from watching this episode. And what can I say? It was a superb episode. Not having followed this serial religiously, I miss a lot of symbolism. However, what I loved today was the ties that bind Sita, Janak and Ram.

Sita was Bhoomija but no one can deny the role Janak has played in her life, so for her to acknowledge it. Beautiful and so very due.. He nurtured her. He brought her up like a daughter should be brought up. Loved, protected, pampered. He respected her ability to yield the Dhanush and stood up to Raavan on her behalf. Don't get me wrong. I personally was given a childhood where noone differentiated me on being a daughter but sometimes when I reflect on it, I became a harder person for it. Sita was so right when she blamed the society for its thinking. If we are lucky, in our homes we are taught to be individuals, to be confident and take decisions for our own self and yet the moment when we step out, the masks come out. As an Indian girl, sometimes I am too frank, too direct, too headstrong.. Anyway cutting my rant short, why are we forever short of expectation of being a woman?

Coming back, I missed not one episode from Ram Sita connection from Vishwamitra episode. I was enthralled by their love story. They felt the soul connection (forest and moon scene), but they used sense, logic and etiquette (sita stopping urmila from babbling, morning cliff scene and swayamvar). He won her hand and yet asked for permission from his parents (letter to Kaikeyi), he took the onus of a marriage working out by talking about sharing the load (36 Gunn), his promises to her (wedding vows) and his reaffirmation to be her friend and partner (sangharsh scene).

She too reciprocated - his joy became hers and so did his sorrows.(coronation and vanvas). And yet though he physically freed her from Raavan, he could not protect her from the society. Don't get me wrong, he waged his own war (the golden queen, the blame taking, the apology). But in the end, they did not walk hand in hand. And I do feel that this holds true even today. There are Ram in today's age, but they have to fight behind the scenes. It is Krishna who fights openly for us. The gift of fighting together goes to only Shiv Parvati. And they are divinity. We mortals can be afraid of divinity but never try to emulate it, instead we chose to chain human form of divinity as we did in case of Ram.

Sita's journey started with Janak and will end on account of Ram, so it was fair that these two men would feel the upcoming crisis approaching. They were both restless, lost and so afraid. Why is it such an impossible task to imagine Janak and Ram fighting together for Sita and winning for once?

Enough said... I am going to be forever indebted to this serial.

Thank you C8. I loved your long reply. Please understand that to become a Krishna, you have to walk the path of Ram or understand Ram. Because Ram is human with masculine aspect, the sanskriti, who needed Prakriti or rather his spouse the feminine aspect Sita to create the new maryada or new line, the walk today signified that.
Krishna was poornavatar feminine and masculine combined who took another man Arjun using Panchali as the medium to destroy evil. A Ram walks the path, a Krishna is capable of taking another man. We need to know Vishnu first came as Ram and then Krishna. But the path that a man will have to walk first is that of Ram where he draws the line finally understanding Prakriti. Our epics can help people understand Ram and make a better living in this life itself if they start early.

But unfortunately Ram is used to talk of AP and Sita banishment only, people not understanding the intend of Ram's actions.

Can anyone help me with this doubt ?

Ram already changed the rule that here on no woman will be asked to do agnipariksha infront of the ayodhya praja. Why cannot Sita go to ayodhya when all are guilty and Ram changed their perception. In the epic Sita did BP because they questioned her purity. Still did not get why BP now.
