I cant help but say SKR CVs are doing an amazing job. The connectivity is kept intact. One thing I know that to understand the depth of SKR we have to learn to unlearn. Why did I tell this. Because Ramayan as a story is steeped very deep in our subconscious and we all have some preconceived notions about this story. Today when Lakshman tried to go first I was like arrey it is not like this was my first thought. It comes, comes to everyone. When I had read a book called Blink I had taken a test called IAT online. You can also try it. It is called Implicit association test. Results of that tests will be pretty amazing. It brings out our subconscious prejudices and stereotypes and our firm beliefs in front of us. So with a mindset of this should be like this SKR cannot be watched. Though it is proved like that in multiple occasions, today I felt it was more.
Now why Lakshman goes and comes back. See actually if you look that is the right procedure. At every point in their vanvas, Lakshman always stands in front for Seva. Sita was wanting the golden deer for doing the seva of its wound. So him going was correct. Second it is always said that Lakshman had his doubts when the golden deer appears. What is the basis of this doubt. Today CVs showed rationally the basis of Lakshman's doubt. He went behind, the deer disappeared. Then it is coming again and again and standing in front of ashram, but not entering. He is doubtful. Isnt some Mayavi power.
Cut to Kishkinda when Mayavi comes second time Sugreev says to Bali don't go, a defeated enemy cannot be back soon.
On both occasions the younger brothers sound the bell of caution. Now see the difference of reaction between Bali and Ram. Bali says he has to be defeated at any cost. Ram says maybe what you are telling is true. But if it is really a wounded animal and if it doesn't get the medicine and die wont we have failed in our duty.
Bali doesn't acknowledge Sugreev's advice, his ego wants to win. Ram acknowledges Lakshman's thought and tell him why he should go. Ignoring an advice and convincing one why the action is required we see the difference in Bali and Ram towards their younger siblings.
Now as Ram proceeds he orders Lakshman. Even if flood comes, even if Sita tells you, you are not going anywhere till I come back. Ram's order is very clear, very strict.
Same order Bali gives Sugreev. Wait for me in front of the cave.
We know both the brother's ended up in exceptional conditions where they had to disobey their elder brother's order. I will go into the detailed analysis of how bali dealt with it and how Ram deals with it when that scene plays out. How one ended a loving relation and how the brother's became each other's strength in the collective guilt, we will be able to see in coming episodes.
Now Bali in his revenge has crossed all boundaries. Look at Ruma's condition. Ruma doesn't listen to Bali's advances, but then Bali tells if she doesn't succumb he will kill Sugreev. Poor lady succumbs. This is where Sita's character shines through. Whether it is Mandodari or Ruma when they had to protect their loved ones they decided to do things which they don't like. But Sita when she faced with similar situation rebuked Ravan like anything and was willing to self immolate. Also Ruma succumbs to fear, while Sita drives fear into Ravan's heart day in day out calling him coward.
And Tara we see the knowledgeable lady in her. She comes to protect Ruma. But then when the man is on self destruction path how will he listen to sane voice. Today he slapped his ardhagnini and decided to have illicit relation with his brother's wife. In Tara's words I would prefer you dead lies the foundation of her forgiving her devar for killing her husband. And misbehaving with Ruma becomes the sole reason for Ram killing Bali from behind. For using a woman without her will to take revenge.
Surpi. For me restrictions on her were like closing the stables after the horse has bolted. Surpi is afraid her brother will fall for Sita's beauty and her revenge wont happen. Look at the trust level in Lanka's family. Nobody trusts each other to the extend that they have to keep physical restrictions. And Kaikasi what is she telling. A woman who has used seduction to get her husband has no right to tell her daughter because of you our family's pride was lost. Vishravas fell for Kaikasi, but Ram didn't hence the pride gone. If Ram had fallen, then would anyone had any problem. Also Surpi is far better than her mother Kaikasi. She loved a man and married him. What is her mistake if that man used her. If her mother used a man, if her brother is using woman, is it a wonder the sister ended up used and has all the pent up anger to take down everything that has denied her love. The maryada the elders keep, the youngsters will follow. The maryada is not in lectures , but in action which most families don't have. As long as things are under the carpet any nonsense is fine. When it comes out cry foul.
And the final Ram-Sita scene. Felt like Hari and Lakshmi knew what was going to happen. And in human form they were finding it difficult to accept it. And Ram's dialogue when Sita says don't go if you have any doubts. My dharma says at this time I have to take care of that golden deer. Yes he has to give Moksha to Mareecha and then fulfill the duty for which he has to take this avatar.
