I agree with everyone that Ram and Lakshman not knowing cooking is a bit unbelievable. Back in those days, Gurukuls covered every topic, from vedas and upanishads to warfare to survival techniques. I find it odd that Ram and Lakshman in SKR never learned cooking, as it's a survival technique that is necessary to survive should they ever find themselves on exile, like they are now. They would've learned enough to at least make a simple daal, boil rice, etc.
As for the meat eating thing, I'm ambiguous about it. I can see the merit to both sides of the argument. Some say that since RLS were kshatriyas, it would not be wrong for them to eat meat and I agree. As princes, they probably did hunt and even during vanvaas, Ram and Lakshman would hunt. It was not considered wrong in that era and we cannot allow our modern day sensibilities to cloud our knowledge of that era's rules and standards. Also, Sita's comment in Valmiki Ramayana about using the deer skin for Ram's prayer mat proves that they did hunt, and that no matter whether they ate meat or not, they at least used the skin for prayer mats.
I can also accept the other side of the argument that as incarnations of Gods and Goddesses, Ram, Lakshman and Sita would have eaten satvik food (roots, berries, vegetables) to teach humanity that the only way to moksha is to give up all forms of non-violence, including that towards animals.
So I honestly do not care which version serials show, though most are too uncomfortable showing RLS eating meat to protect people's sensibilities.
