@Shruthi: Good post. I thought you will indicate mandodari speciality but you highlighted her ignorance.
Still few women feel they are lower than men. Feminism is not about considering women greater than men, but its about the equality.
What is patni dharm? Saving pati from committing sin or saving him inspite of his sin. She lacked this basis understanding.
In early times men prohibited education for women to block her rational thinking. Wiser men never denies to answer any questions from anyone.

I agree with you shruthi. Until women stop blindly supporting men like these, things will never change. Just because Ravan was her husband Mandodari wanted to save him at any cost. I think sometimes the reason is purely because, these women's entire life depend on their husband or sons. They feel, agar unhe kuch Ho Gaya to mera Kya hoga. And so the cycle continues.

I really wonder at the society's interpretation of the words like 'chastity','satitva' and 'patni dharma'...and the way it always focuses on a woman. Where does it say in our God's appearance and 'aacharan' that these words are confined to a woman. If we take a look at our 'tridev-Brahma and Saraswati are connected but exist independently of each other;Vishnu is lying on sheshnag and Lakshmi is sitting at the place where the source of energy is supposed to be present-the' mool chakra'; and Shiv is ardh narieshwar. Both of them equally important and are soul mates, aren't they?So this imbalance is is mainly in our minds, isn't it?
The word 'chasity 'means purity,'satitva' means being true to one's partner and dharm is maryada in its basic sense.Doesn't it relate to men as well?should they also not embody these traits for a greater society?
But the saddest fact of the matter is that we as woman are not completely blameless. If Mandodri, instead of trying to get the immortality for her evil husband, had asked for something to bring him back to the righteous path, wouldn't it have served her better? If Gandhari had to tried to curb Durodhan's nature and guided him to a better path, couldn't she saved her family from such devastation?
When I was watching 'india's daughter' the wife of the main accused states that he could not have done such a thing...there was no sign of remorse for her husband's heinous crime,no apology for a girl's suffering ,...she came across as nothing other than a wronged wife...what a travesty of human values .
Shruthi, the main difference between Sita and Mandodri is their valuation of themselves. When Janak comes with the swayamwar proposal,Sita agrees to it {even though she did have someone in her mind'}.Her conversation with Urmila about this shows her as a person of strong convictions.she scores as a daughter here. When she chooses to accompany Ram in his vanvass, she scores as a wife,At the ashok vatika she scores as woman who is able to survive in hostile conditions and yet manage to keep her self respect intact...When she leaves for the vanvass the second time, she scores as a queen...when she comes back to Ayodhya ...she scores as a mother and ultimately when she chooses to go back to mother earth, she scores as woman.
Mandodri is a step lower in all these aspects.May be that is why Sita is revered while Mandodri is pitied!

Despite having a chaste wife, Amrut in his belly, a son like Indrajit and all the powers in the mighty Lanka Ravana met his end just like any other man. If instead of using her chastity to bring the Amrit to her husband she should have used it to bring her husband to the path of Dharm. If it was not possible she shouldn't have given this powerful protection to him. So in a way she was supporting his atrocities.
If Sri Ram had done something even remotely similar to Ravan wouldn't Sita correct him? She was against Ram attacking any one without any provokation. She tries to remind him about this during vanvas.

Sad but this is the reality shruti...di-------!!

Mandodori thinks is her patni dharma but where it is dhamra??? whne u are supporting Adharma...indirectly...😲

Seriouslyyy i was so so amazed i had heard of mandodari being the ektatvya patni dharma...buttt to this extent i was like 😲

It always said a women is enemy of another women no matter what may be directly or indirectly may be bound or unbound

But fact is...Today to MEN like ravvan...can easily ccounterpart anywhere because they are always protected bu the The power shield what...we called as WIFE(no offence to any woman just my pov)..

I am so so pised of with the type of thinking that says --Bura hai .bhala hai jaisa bhi hai..mera pati mera devta hai😡

For one moment please stop to treat them like God...and please treat them like human...for god sake!!😲

Very good post Shruthi and very good point. Unfortunately, women have been women's biggest foes, both in the past and present. Hope, in future women would stand up for other women instead of protecting their Ravan like men.

Sometimes, I wonder if Sita had also stopped Ram and Lakshman from mutilating Surpankha, had her life been different?

Of course, Lakshman attacked her once Sita's life was threatened but should Sita have asked the men to stop teasing a woman who was just trying to lust after them?

@Ramya I told you naa you will be happy seeing my post 😃. Yes education was denied to women so that they always remain subserviant. But even after having education there are enough women who have this mentality.
@abhiya TV has worsened the situation to be frank. From the progressive of shows of 90s to regreesive bahus of 2000 , it is pathetic. TV promotes all the horrible things. Subserviance, manipulation, marital rape, bigamy, preference of male child you name it TV does it. The saddest thing when I was watching EHT was, there were so called educated people( I hope people posting in this forum are educated) rooting for the leading lady to marry the rapist and reform him🤢. Reason rapist was more good looking than the male protoganist

@raima women dont think. We have a habit of feeling guilty when we cant meet expectations. But feel guilty for the right thing.

@savitha our scriptures give duties for both man and woman and the onus is actually more on man to be accountable. But then woman are made to believe they only have duties and men have rights😡. And rape is still a mistake by boys for some not a crime😡

@gmgi end happened for Ravan. But look at the troubles Prakriti had to suffer to end this man, just because a woman decided to use all her power to protect him

@mannu Pati Paremshwar hai. But do the ladies know what Paremshwar or Lord Shiva is. Yes if Pati is like Lord Shiva he can be treated like that. But if you take literal meaning this is the mess you end up with

@bheegi Ram paid the price of teasing a woman multifold. Did he needed anything more. Seperated from his wife. Again seperated from his wife and kids aftermath of that incident. Can he pay more than that. We shouldnt even be asking it. A small acharan mistake from his side and the price he paid.
