SIYA KE RAM- 17/02- THE PIVOT Exceptional episode. Beautiful portrayal. Great symbolisms and much awaited forecast.
Ponder over the title till i update.
The episode starts with Ravan's kingdom. I don't know why i don't feel like delving deeper into the scenes from Lanka. But today was different. Mandodari and Ravan's mother make me include this angle into my post. Their intuition, their fear was well defined. As ravan's mother rightly pointed that mandodari's intuition was not baseless. Shruthi am reminded here of your reply on intuition. Intuition stems from the knowledge of subconscious mind. Fear is usually baseless, but i find ravana's mother fearing on the basis of valid reasons. A stark contrast yet a compliment, fear acknowledged intuition. A slight pointer here, ravana's mother retells the boon emphasizing that a woman will be the reason of death of her son. An interesting mention was about "satitva" (chastity). Keep this mind to connect the dots.
The next scene is mata gargi and sita. I always admired gargi and sita's bond. A beautiful depiction of guru-shishya scene. Me being a student so wish that we had teachers like those in the ancient times. How sita beautifully clarified that gargi's teachings would always remain with her. Gargi blesses sita that all her "manoraj" would be fulfilled. A slight pointer here again- the BG music that was played when gargi blessed sita. Go back to yday's episode and you'll come across the same music when sunaina tests the girls. So the bgm of the show is the biggest backbone in foretelling the future. Gargi's blessing about "manoraj" is poignant and ironical. Will sita's all wishes come true?
The next scene we get is ram and bhumija. Sita's self talk was heart touching. It actually made me cry when she says that she'll be back to her abode when her patience and strength ends. Am so glad that the whole thing was witnessed by ram. He gets a glimpse into vasundhara putri, bhumija, maithili. The emotion with which sita delivers is overwhelming. Devi lakshmi knows what her end would be. She collects the soil and gets up. Ram catches the falling soil assuring sita that he would never let her lose and share her struggle. There's one thing shiva says "ardhanareshwar". This shall be interesting to watch during exile and abandonment phases. As ram says he would share her pain, her struggle, her anguish he holds the soil in his hand. Once done he pours it back into her aanchal. Recall sita's talk with vasundhara devi. She says her existence is because of her. Ram takes the essence from sita in the form of soil and returns back her existence in the aanchal. RING A BELL? If not, relate with the future and fate of sita. Ram vowed to share her LIFE but he could not share her FATE. Ram's taking and returning the soil was symbolic of life and fate. The teary eyed Ram gave me shivers.
No thoughts on the family meet and muhurtha declaration.
Coming to why i chose this title. THE PIVOT.
Interestingly from monday we have witnessed a pattern which began with janaka. yesterday we have ram. Today we have THE PIVOT. We got THE SHAFT, THE OPERATOR and THE PIVOT.
The shaft being janaka, the operator being Ram and the pivot being SITA. Today's post was dedicated to sita.
As a kid i always admired sita, may be more than ram. Even maryada purushottam didn't suffice to like him. Not because of feminism or anything, but i really felt the humanness in sita's character as she was tired of the trials. I didn't feel she chose her fate coz of her ego, it was her justified approach. JUSTICE is a funny thing you see. What may be right for one won't be the same for the other. As king and queen they decided to part ways but when the rights' of their sons came into picture sita lost her calm. I actually worship SITA right from my childhood. Today penning down was very tough. My eyes welled up.
Coming to the episode and yday's discussion on thread, as told that sita means "hal se rekha banati" i.e a line. Today sita expressed her gratitude by calling her parents by their names janaka and sunaina. Janaka had said that sita had chosen them as her parents. It was that time, sita chose her destiny. Ram broke the bow, sita chose her life. A time will come again when sita will choose her fate. Sita meaning line that starts with janaka and ends at ram. Janaka named her sita and today ram reached sita.
The soil sita collected and ram took and returned depicts life and fate. Sita took mithila's soil which shaped her destiny by janaka's teachings. She took them in her aanchal as a proof of her existence. Ram took it symbolic that he woud share her existence that is her life. He gave it back into her aanchal symbolic that though he shares her life he gives back her fate. Remember even ram couldn't change her fate.
The whole scene is deep, very deep. The loop is opened which is longest running one and culminate at the end.
Why SITA is A PIVOT? The episode began with the mention of 'SATITVA'. It began with the mention of Ravana's boon that will turn into a curse. The whole scene revolved around the pivot which will cause a turn of events and an upheaval in the life of mandodari.
The next was siya-ram. Ram's life is pretty much going to revolve around sita. Again the pivot will make a point to turn things upside down in the life of maryada purushottam. He is going to be torn between duties. The term "satitva" makes a place in the story. It was ironic. Ravana's wife is asked to use her chastity to save her husband. on the contrary sita's chastity is going to be questioned endangering ram's reputation.
What i loved in the past three episodes was the line (sita) which connected janaka and ram. The soil scene again has this layered depiction. Janaka had ploughed the field by making a line thus ensuring the baby's upbringing, destiny and her capability of dealing with life. Ram receives the strength in the form of luck from janaka. Thus, sita is the line that connects the capability (janaka) of enduring struggle (bhumija) of life (ram)
I would end this post with a salute to THE PIVOT.
P.S.: substantial additions on pg.12 😃
