This line is completely unnecessary!

OK u like skr not a problem but why bring Ramanand sagar Ramayana n criticize it indirectly!

I guess this is what skr taught us to glorify one we hv to put down other .

Anyone who says Indian TV was not big or became huge only recently ,should check craze for shows like Ramayan!

Yes maybe u don't know the impact created by dr ramananad sagars Ramayana as it didn't hv much of visual effects so ppl from today's generation don't like to watch it. Maybe its u who never understood the depth and the meaning each dialogue n scene in Ramanand sagar Ramayana.

So something I got from website :

Ramayan in January 1986. After the Sagars' discovered Arun Govil's beatific smile and the power pf tele visual religion, Sunday mornings were never the same again. Nor was India, with Sagar's miracle - a - minute amakgam of 14 different versions of Valmiki's epic keeping pace with an aggressive and unapologetic Hundutva that swept the nation

Order of the People's National Award - Best television serial of the year 1987'
Ramayan created unprecedented records. It blazed new trails all over the world with a unique distinction of achieving something which even prophets, scholars, great thinkers, religious leaders, social reformers and politicians could not achieve in centuries. Ramayan has been registered in the Limca Book of Records. As per BBC figures, the serial has been watched by over 650 million people worldwide of which, 40 million Indian viewers regularly watched it on its first telecast.
As a soothing spiritual balm - The entire Nation stopped ... Turned ... and looked back with pride at our culture, our traditions and heritage of pure ethics and hallowed principles - RAMAYAN championed the victory of good over evil and boasted of noble virtues. The serial was portrayed in a most aesthetic manner and carried a lot of devotional value for the Indian viewer. Such was the phenomenon of Ramayan that often during the telecasts the streets always wore a deserted look.
The message of "Ramayan" cut across all the barriers of caste, creed, language and political boundaries. The euphoria that "RAMAYAN" created and documented by the media during its telecast, it itself is a legend.

Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan
Is a modern day miracle

Ramanand Sagar's mega epic TV Serial "RAMAYAN", when first telecasted in 1987, created unprecedented records. It blazed new trails all over the world with a unique distinction of achieving something which even prophets, scholars, great thinkers, religious leaders, social reformers and politicians could not achieve in centuries.
The message of "Ramayan" cut across all the barriers of caste, creed, language and political boundaries. The euphoria that "RAMAYAN" created and documented by the media during its telecast, is itself a legend.

Media documentation:

A lawyers' conference in Patna had to be delayed when its opening coincided with the telecast and nobody turned up.
A bride was late for her wedding ceremony in Satara in Maharashtra because she was watching Ramayan.

Two ministers turned up one hour late for her swearing- in ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan. They said they were busy watching "Ramayan".

The Bharat Milap scene brought in Bhopal two Muslim brothers on inimical terms, together after having lived separately for ten years. So moved was the elder brother by the serial, that he transported all possessions which were the reason of the split, to the younger brother's house.

In a Ranchi mental asylum, usually rowdy or violent inmates - on Sundays - when they were out in open pelted stones on monkeys sitting on trees in the compound, watched "Ramayan" peacefully. When they saw HANUMANJI performing various tasks for LORD SHRI RAM, their attitude towards monkeys changed. They started leaving food for the animals and even erected a Samadhi for a dead monkey.

In Bombay, "Ramayan" even cured a boy of amnesia. After a serious accident, the boy could not remember anything from his past life. Several efforts by his parents and treatments could not revive his memory. One day his sister asked him to see "Ramayan." A faint recollection of the theme music of the serial triggered off a positive response and the boy soon recovered with subsequent treatment.

Many churches all over India rescheduled their Sunday masses so that church goers can watch the serial.

After watching the scene in which Laxman becomes unconscious on being hit by Indrajit's arrow - NAAGPASH - a wealthy businessman in Madras fell seriously ill and went into coma at the shock of Laxman wounded. The credibility and source of sequence created a great furor, but the Sagar's stood their ground. But when they received a request from the business man's doctors' to help them revive the old man the Sagar unit worked round the clock and prepared a special clipping which they air dashed to Madras. Only after the man saw Laxman reviving back to life in the new clipping - also based on the authentic research - did he recover back to normal life from his coma.

A wedding baraat arrived in Lucknow station 9.30 a.m. on Sunday only to find that all the coolies as well as the rickshawallah's were engrossed seeing the serial.

This is what you call real craze!

No promotion gimmicks, no TRP stuff or other fanfare. Just mania among real masses and classes alike.

So that was the craze n literally it changed ppl.
Its the final result that matters.

If parroting it word by word can change ppl for good then why not.

Even after almost 30 yrs after its telecast ppl r watching n talking about it that itself a big thing.

This is the impact created by a show made with full faith n based on valmiki n tulasidas Ramayana.
Just imagine if everyone starts reading n understanding the valmiki Ramayana then what will happen❤️

@vishakha,
my intention was not to hurt anyone's sentiments. I have watched ramanand sagar's ramayana also. For a very long time there were long unnecessary negative posts that were circulated around the forum. Will ppl ever see anything beyond the entertainment factor or the grandeur? I have seen ppl thoroughly criticizing the show in the veil of this very presentation of the show.

i was never against valmiki's ramayana or RS's ramayana. Did ppl ever get my point? I have added this point only for the purpose of highlighting the point that pls try to see something positive in SKR.
I made these futile attempts previously also. There were ppl who compared SKR with previous works. I did the same here. My intention was never to criticize any previous works. My only motto is to highlight what is positive. By saying that "they haven't kept it straight like RS's ramayana" is SKR is relating the present scenario and ramayana, which becomes easier for the new generation to understand.

one more thing that i don't understand about ppl saying that the new generation only wants masala, chemistry, grandeur and the entertainment quotient.

well, i don't see it that way. Am not here because of ashish sharma or madirakshi or their chemistry or the huge sets. If that would have been the case, i wouldn't have opened this thread in the first place.

Another point, why are the shows constantly being compared? i brought in the comparison because ppl started it. They compared valmiki's, RS's, SKR. I had earlier also said this if ppl are unhappy with the show, they should leave but not spread negativity. If that was not possible at least take up what is positive and leave the negative (to which they thought that i was talking of valmiki's ramayana and i was bashed for no reason).

So is it a rule that ppl who have watched RS's and read valmiki, should only post on this forum? I tried learning from the most read ppl out here. but i only got negativity and nothing else. Even though my views were crossed by others i liked their posts and replied to the same but didn't receive the same response.

The ppl who preach of original work, Did the original ramayana teach them this?

One can atleast come up and discuss than incessantly bashing anybody.

And yes I'll delete that line not because my intention was bad, but because this thread is positive and i dont want to make it a war zone unnecessarily...

it is applicable to the previous ones too. in the first place, ppl began comparing. If they knew RS's and valmiki's works were magic, they should know that magic cannot be recreated.
And once again if ppl like RS's or valmiki's work, they should not criticize SKR.
THIS IS A SIMPLE JUSTIFIED APPROACH.

And yes am that person who has watched both ramayanas by sagar arts but i make a point to figure out positive things from SKR and improve my life.

But i ges ppl only learnt to criticize and bash other shows from the previous works... and that really hurts...

SIYA KE RAM - 16/02/16: ROLES,ROADS, REASSURANCES

You open a thread to analyze scenes, to decipher symbolisms and enrich our minds. One wishes to delve deeper into a scene, dialogue and a setup and elaborate it lucidly. As you begin doing this cv's throw a major challenge towards you. And that challenge for me is today's episode. You all heard it right. Today's episode was replete with messages, symbolisms and most importantly a foretelling of the future.

I am so lost in today's episode that i find it pretty difficult to pen down things.

To make things easier, i will proceed scene wise.

The episode begins with Ram. I so much loved this whole thing. He was lost into deep thoughts of how sita pacified her father. Sita comes and tells him about food being served. Note here, of what she calls him, not swami, not prabhu, not dashrath nandan, not ayodhyapati. She calls him "raghunandan". Did it a ring a bell? NO? Connect the flashback that ram has and this particular word. You may get the answer. Lets go reverse. Ram recalls sita saying that she is in a dilemma as there is mithila on one side and ayodhya at other side. She cares about the reputation of both the kingdoms. She doesn't want people to talk ill about mithila or ayodhya. She here spoke as a daughter and as a kulvadhu. Now bring in "raghunandan", she addressed ram as the son or the heir of raghu dynasty. She didn't address him as her husband. Had a husband been addressed, it would have made him weaker emotionally seeing his better-half's separation from her family, her land. Instead she points out the thought of the heir who also has to care for the reputation of the respective kingdom. She assures that he doesn't lose his knowledge in the face of emotions.

what comes next is worth asking for. Many loops that had opened culminated here and hence new ones have opened. A time was there when ram had questioned sita that she wants to ask something but is unable to do so ( the bahuvivah question on the cliff in mithila ). Again ram asked her in the temple if she was happy or not. Sita beautifully pointed out of how lucky and happy she was.

Today a similar thing happened but with a twist. Sita posed curiosity for his thoughts and he opened his heart. He told how lucky was he to have her in his life. He appreciated her for her straightforwardness, honesty, empathy, love and a sense of duty. He in a nutshell pointed out her ROLES. The role of a daughter and a pillar in the time of need.

" aj se sansaar aap ka naam mujhse purva lega. Aj se ram ki siya nahi siya ke ram kaha jayega"

The dialogue is beautifully analysed by shruthi below.

The next scene comes is that of the sisters. As Ram had truly addressed her roles, sita fulfills the same with her sisters. She imparts her sense of dharma to them.

The third scene is chandrabhaga, sunaina with their daughters. Long back there was a kitchen scene, when these were kids. Sita had also answered then about the types of foods. Today sunaina asked sita about 'sasural'. Her subsequent questions revolved around the different roles. So ram's address continues here also. A frequently occurring word through and through was 'kulvadhu'. Note the way the girls sat.

SITA-URMILA IN A LINE WITH MANDVI-SHRUTHKIRTI BEHIND.

A crucial pointer. ( i guess this has to do with the 4 pillars of life) But again as sita explained her stance of following the duties of sasural, she would always be the light-bearer for her sisters. She would always do her sister's margdarshan. A point to be noted, as sita explained, first focus was given on urmila.

Time and again chandrabhaga and sunaina pointed out that all the four sisters would stay together. This was ironically foretelling of the future. The way sita time and again pointed herself as the torch bearer was an icing on the cake. Very deep. She indeed was the margdarshak as her exile made her sisters' take up their responsibilities in the future. Sita interestingly focussed on how she would teach them to respect their in-laws. And a minute focus was on mandavi then. It would be really interesting to watch how the sisters will manage this aspect once sita accompanies ram on exile given by kaikeyi. A loop has opened here.

The scene that drew my attention was sita's mention of Gargi. Sunaina once again is tensed. I loved how the cv's have maintained their equation as same right from the beginning. The way sunaina and gargi greeted after the wedding was over, was phenomenal. I wont comment much on the scene. Let the details play out tomorrow.

Once again janaka-dashratha scene was awesome. I didnt loved it coz janaka was ready for bidaai, i loved it bwecause he said "janaki aur anya teen putriyan". I loved the mention of janaki here. See the role reversal, there was time when ram had addressed sita not by her name (on the cliff) and today is the day when ram calls her 'sitae' and janaka mentions her as 'janaki'.

A clever portrayal of roles it was.

Ram explains shatrughna the importance of daughter to a family and vice versa. well i don't know why he chose shatrughna for this. I guess shruthi might have an explanation for this.

Cherry on the cake was kept by rishi yagyavalva. The way he put forth the importance of janaki. Till now from yday's episode, everything revolved around janaka's daughter janaki. Yagyavalva cleverly gives the twist by bringing in mithila.

Now if you connect my starting point till the end, you will notice one thing common, Ram admired sita's role as a daughter, as a guide, and found himself lucky as she would be his better-half, his kul ki maryada. Recall the way he had addressed her saying "aj aapka alag roop dekha"

To reach sita, Ram has to understand janaki (which he did today, as janaki also is the REFLECTION of JANAKA), maithili, vaidehi, bhumija. Once he does this, the "raghunandan" will become sita's swami.

After this long post, I'll make a point to explain the title. The three R's- ROLES, ROADS AND REASSURANCES.

ROLES- There was a consistent mention of women and their roles. kulvadhu topping the list. daughter, sister, guide, pacifier and the reputation. The names JANAKI,MAITHILI,BHUMIJA,VAIDEHI and SITA metaphorically indicate these roles. It will be forever SITA for Ram but to reach till sita he needs to understand JANAKI,MAITHILI,BHUMIJA,VAIDEHI.

ROADS- The roads, in short the 'maarg' solely belong to the sisters and to RAM. The four sisters who believe that they would be together, will have to traverse an individual path with different challenges. As sita said i would be the torch bearer for them, she indirectly refers to JANAKA and his teachings. As i mentioned yday of sita being his reflection. Sita also pointed of the knowledge that her sisters had received. In a nutshell, the torch-bearer would be JANAKA's teachings. CV's used SITA metaphorically. Sita being the guide for ram will be during her abandonment. Here a circle shall be completed of what began today in the form of kulvadhu and maryada. once again swami shall become raghunandan. Time will tell how cv's handle this.

REASSURANCES- Well this is straight and complex. Sunaina- chandrabhaga reassured that their teachings were a success by taking their daughters' tests. Ram's reassurance of sita being his true soulmate as he is lost in thoughts.
sunaina's reassurance of how she and janaka will spend their time. Her reassuring to sita that even when they would be away, her invested time in them in the past would be fruitful.

If yesterday belonged to janaka, today it belonged to Ram.Am amazed at the depth of the scenes and dialogues. What i look into tomorrow's precap is sita and her talks with bhoomi. And this is where Ram shall be introduced to maithili and bhumija.

Today Ram said whenever his name is taken Sita's name will taken before him. It will be Siya ka Ram not Ram Ki Siya.
If you look into the principle of Sanathana Dharma you will see this trend across Gowri Shankar, Lakshmi Narayan, Uma Shanker, Radha Krishnan, Lakshmi Kantha, Uma Pathi, you name it women's name is taken before man's name. Why is it so.

Reason is the knowledge of the women. Her ability to speak the truth without hurting, being empathetic, her knowledge on relations, maryada of relations. Only a person who knows the maryada of relations can behave in a way Sita behaved. Only a person who knows the maryada of relations can manage relations. Only the one who can manage relations can run a home, and only if the home is run well, society will be good and harmonious.
And everything is based on the knowledge the woman possess. And it is for that knowledge, that intuition that is able to guide him in future her name is taken before his,
Because without her knowledge, without her intuition a man cannot take right actions. World only see the action. But he knows the knowledge behind the action.
So if Ram is going to become Maryada Purushottam, it is because of the knowledge and intuition of Sita. It is the woman who has walked with him, who is making him Maryadapurushottam.

And he wants the world to acknowledge her before him for whatever he has become.
