Why does Govinda not take on Dad/older brother roles?

Maelstrom of Emotions
An agitated Prince Lakshman was never a good sight to behold at any given time. However thankfully he was all alone in his room thanks to his younger sibling who finally decided to leave him to his own devices...for which Lakshman was immensely thankful. How did his family find newer ways to torture him was beyond him! "Lakshman...how would they know what's inside your mind until you tell them." A sane voice of Prince Ram echoed through his mind. Yet how was he going to clear the mess he was in the first place? The best place to start would be talk to Bhaiya and Bhabhi surely...but what am I to say? I can hardly go and tell bhabhi that I fell in love with your sister, during your wedding!! That would not only be improper but also wildly outrageous. But there is no way I can stop this madness surrounding MY wedding if I didn't speak up. Lakshman stopped pacing in his quarters and decided to pay a visit to his Ram's. He stormed out of his room and went in search of his beloved bhaiya. As he was about to enter his elder brother's chambers, a thought suddenly struck his mind...What if his love wasn't reciprocated! He had no ways to confirm what she thought of him! If she ever thought about him about regarding anything! Lakshman smiled ruefully at his state of affairs. Earlier he didn't know how to deal with love now he didn't know how to deal with an unrequited one! There were times when they would just look at one another and feel the entire world coming to a stop...nothing else seemed to have mattered...but now as he stood in front of his brother's room an unprecedented fear seem to grip his heart. Nevertheless a man as wise as Lakshman knew there was no point in dwelling about what ifs' and if there was any chance of stalling this mayhem, he would definitely do his part. He inhaled loudly as he pushed through the huge gold panelled doors and was greeted by a rather busy' sight.
Princess Sita was busy packing her trunks and Prince Ram was standing afar with an amused expression on his face. Lakshman was visibly confused, as he had no idea about his bhabhi's plans of travelling! Was his bhaiya going too? Where are they even going?
"Bhaiya..bhabhi are you going somewhere?" Asked Lakshman tentatively. Sita turned around excitedly and replied, "Why? Yes Lakshman bhaiya...I am visiting Mithila for 3 weeks!" Lakshman whipped around his head and looked at his brother, "3 WEEKS! Bh..bhaiya you ARE going with Bhabhi right?" Ram slowly approached Lakshman and nodded, "Yes I am. But I won't be staying for THAT long." "But why is Bhabhi visiting Mithila all of a sudden?" asked Lakshman.
Sita turned to her brother in law excitedly and answered, "Pitashree has written that they are seriously considering Urmi's marriage now and wants me there to make Urmi understand of course." She halted for a minute and then continued, "...you DO remember Urmi, my sister devarji...don't you?" Suddenly all the blood from Lakshman's face seemed dried up; he looked pale and felt sick to his bones. Surely, Lord Shiva wouldn't curse him like THAT! Not a couple days ago, he was grappling with this wedding mania at his own palace and now the entire situation seemed even bleaker. Wasn't there a way in which he could restore the situation? He couldn't possibly loose her in the process.
Probably the gods took pity on Lakshman's plight as he suddenly brightened up because of an unexpected brainwave he had from nowhere at the very moment. This was his ultimate scope to probe into the situation and somehow get out of it unscathed. "Then I'm coming with you." Lakshman said excitedly. Ram looked at him quizzically as Sita tried in vain to hide a smirk of her own. Oh! She was only too sure that Lakshman would be overly eager to accompany them all the way to Mithila! "But surely you don't need to brother...we will have Sumantraji with us." Lakshman didn't really know how to answer. He just knew he had to go with his brother to Mithila to meet her once again. He would keep no stones upturned to find out if his feelings were indeed reciprocated. "But..bhaiya...y-you know I can't be sitting here doing nothing when I know you'll be travelling through the wilderness with Bhabhi on your side for the first time. I would go out of my mind worrying!" Finished Lakshman rather morosely. Ram smiled at his brother and asked, "Is that the only reason Lakshman?" Lakshman's face looked ashen as he hastily tried to change the subject, "Of course bhaiya, how can you doubt my devotion towards you and bhabhi?" Ram stared at his brother for quite some time and continued, "Ram can never doubt his Lakshman. But the question is Is Lakshman being completely honest with his Ram bhaiya?'" "I-I think you should go and pack Lakshman Bhaiya as we are planning to leave early morning tomorrow." Interjected Sita. "Yes bhabhi, thank you for letting me come with you." Lakshman folded his hands in front of Sita and Ram reverently and then left swiftly. The relief that showed on Lakshman's face was only there for a flicker of a moment yet it didn't go unseen by either Ram or Sita. They smiled fondly at each other, as they were almost certain that their plan was already in motion and the result was quite encouraging to begin with.
"You can come out of the drapes Shatrughan bhaiya. There's no one to see you now."
"Bhabhi, do you honestly think that this plan is going to work?" Asked a wary Shatrughan. Sita looked a lot more perked up as she replied, "Yes, YES I'm quite certain of that...both of them just need propelling at the right direction and in this case it's towards one another."
"But are you certain about your sister's feelings for Lakshman? Not that I doubt you bhabhi." Ram, Sita and Shatrughan all looked at the door at the same time as the speaker slowly walked towards them with a smile on his handsome face. "It fits that you would be so considerate toward my sister's emotions Bharat bhaiya, but let me assure you that Urmi too is quite taken in with my chote devarji." Answered Sita while giving final touches to her packing.
"How did she tell you anything?" asked Ram breaking his silence. Sita turned to face him and shook her head slightly to remind him, "My sisters don't need to use words to let me know when something's bothering them or if they are distracted. Just like your brothers needn't, to you Swami. "
At Mithila's Rajbhavan after a few days
"Urmi ...I asked you to go and check on Rajkumar Lakshman...whether he is wanted for anything or not!" Rani Sunaina said irritably as her daughter in question was busy painting away, mixing some vibrant colours together.
"Hmmm" was the only reply she got from her noncommittal daughter. "Hey Lord Shiva! What's going to happen when you go to your in laws! No mother-in-law will tolerate such behaviour Urmi and then they will blame us that we didn't teach you proper etiquette!!" said Rani Sunaina crossly. Urmila, the younger daughter of Rajrishi Janak and Rani Sunaina was known for her quick wit and effervescent nature. She took a deep breath and got up from her seat near the enormous window. She hugged her mother from behind and said, "What is it with you and Pitashree? Why do you have to send me away too? Didi is already married but I am going stay right here with you...why can't I Ma?" Rani Sunaina untangled Urmi's arms from herself and answered, "Because we are parents and it's our duty to see you all settled before we die. Otherwise the society will term us as incompetent parents..."
"I don't care what society or customs say. I'm not leaving you...and going away with someone I don't know." Huffed Urmi. Sunaina laughed at her daughter's antics, "Of course you don't...you're my freethinking daughter. Now can you do your old mother a favour and find out if Rajkumar Lakshman has settled in properly or not. He is family now." Smiled Sunaina.
"Do I have to? He is always seems angry...and so different from jijashree! There's a perpetual frown on his face as if he is disgusted by everything and with everybody around except jijashree!" Urmila further pouted to make her mother understand her standpoint. She obviously didn't think of him that way anymore, he was now more dear to her than anybody else at the moment and she feared for as long as she would live and probably even beyond that but she couldn't say that in front of her mother or anyone else for that matter!!
"Urmi stop exaggerating will you? I am amazed that you still think like that about him? I thought you both have buried the hatchet by now! Anyways...I've loads of work left in the Kitchen and I'm NOT going to ASK you again. YOU WILL DO WHAT I ASKED YOU TO DO." Sunaina loved her daughters more than anything but she also knew when to be strict with them without hurting their sentiments. Even Urmila knew not to cross her mother when she seriously meant business. "Okay..I'll go." Grumbled she.
She took the tray loaded with a silver glass and some supper from her mother went to the eastern wing of the palace where Dasharathanandan Lakshman was staying. As she neared his chambers, her heart was set a flutter. She felt her stomach in knots as she knocked at the closed gold panelled wooden door.
As it opened, she found Lakshman staring at her with an amused expression. "It took you long enough! I was just wondering where exactly were you hiding!"
"I don't know what you mean!" Urmila entered the chambers with the tray in her hand trying to sound as nonchalant as she could manage under the circumstances. Lakshman smirked and tried to probe further...for some unknown reasons he always loved riling her up. Her flustered and annoyed expression was probably his favourite among many others. He shook his head to clear it from his lingering thoughts.
"But I think you do, Princess." Laughed Lakshman. Urmila thanked gods that she was turned away from him, so he couldn''t actually see her blushing crimson red. However, she wasn't someone who would back down from a fight and definitely not when her opponent was a certain handsome young prince. She took a moment to make sure that her emotions were under control and then turned around abruptly which unsettled even someone as careful and alert as Prince Lakshman. "Were you searching for me then?" asked Urmila with a laugh that only showed how prepared for the challenge she was. Lakshman momentarily reeled under her playful tone with her clearly showing off the mirth that her impressive pair of eyes held. Yet the thought of first accepting defeat or acknowledging the truth about his feelings didn't seem to be appetizing to him either. Hence, he too decided to play along just to see how far they both can continue this charade.
"Oh please don't flatter yourself princess, I...I just happened to notice that you weren't present at our reception." Urmila looked at him disbelievingly. She's going to be the death of me. "You asked WHERE I WAS HIDING which quite naturally implies that you've been looking for me, doesn't it Rajkumar?" Lakshman knew he was in love with Urmila...the whole of Urmila...with her mind, her soul, her passion, her compassion, her beauty and her intelligence. He slowly walked towards her with planned steps...making her a little nervous. He was tall in fact tallest among his brothers just leaving out his twin who was quite as tall and Urmila with her rounded features was dwarfed in his towering presence. Lakshman took the advantage of his height and took measured steps toward her. He came and stood in front of her as if to block her from leaving. He lowered his head and whispered, "Oh...wouldn't you want to know!" Urmila could feel her growing embarrassment and thought she might end up doing something silly like proclaiming her undying love for the person standing in front of her...under his strong, unrelenting eyes.
Nevertheless, somewhere her heart felt heavy because if she were to believe the idle gossips of Mandavi and Shrutakirti then this younger Dasharathanandan too was going to get tied down real soon. Her heart lurched at the thought and suddenly she felt her voiced getting clogged. What's the point in playing this game if the joke's really on her? The atmosphere in the chamber changed instantaneously. The banter that started on a friendly note, the game that was being played in good humour was suddenly overcast as the mood shifted. Lakshman being a very perceptive person picked up on the shift in mood almost at the same time.
"What happened Mila..are you alright?" Urmila averted her eyes which was slowly brimming with tears and answered, "I..I am well, Rajkumar, I just have a headache..nothing that you should concern yourself with." Lakshman knew she was lying, after all he knew all her tell tales. He lifted her chin with his right thumb and gazed at her lovingly... "You can't fool me now..I know you like the back of my own hands...and I don't need your words to know that I'm right and that you are distressed for some unknown reason. Tell me why am I here? Tell me you don't know the real reason." Urmila steeled herself, as she knew she had to. She couldn't prove herself to be weak. "I know you are here with Jijashree and Sita didi and you're our guest...now please excuse me, Ma must be waiting for me." Turning away, she was about to take a step away leaving behind shell shocked Lakshman, when he caught her right hand and hauled her to him. Urmila found herself colliding with a firm chest and as she dared to look into the eyes of the offender, she was surprised to find an incredulous Lakshman looking at her.
"Guest??? Is THAT what I AM to YOU MILA?" Urmila knew she couldn't give in to the temptation and her heart broke in thousand pieces yet again. But, who was going to keep a score of that! She continuously tried to free her hand from the death grip of Lakshman's fist but to no avail. Lakshman murmured anger dripping off from each word, desperation was clearly noticeable in his face, "Tell..me...O princess of Mithila that I haven't been the only one to have misconstrued our interactions? Tell me that it wasn't only I who had been dreaming about US!...and that there never was a YOU'?" Urmila's heart sang in happiness...there was definitely a glimmer of hope for THEM then...wasn't there? However how could she forget the stories Sita narrated to their mother regarding the already chosen candidate for Lakshman.
She had already spent sleepless nights thinking over the same thing, she wasn't ready to burn her bridges until she was absolutely sure...were they strong enough to go against their parental decisions? "There can never be an US' NOT when YOU are destined to be with someone else...I can't and won't trade in affection and play a second fiddle to another woman in your life!" Lakshman looked bewildered as he stared back at her, "What do YOU even mean by that? And YES I know that you too are in SAME predicament as MINE. I thought we were a team." Urmila smiled wryly and replied resolutely, "I'm not sure if I follow you BUT all I know is that I shouldn't be here talking to you especially NOT when you're promised to someone else. I beg your pardon Rajkumar." Lakshman's voice turned hard as he answered, "Neither I'm obliged nor I'm inclined to dispel your accusations but once and for all I can tell you with certainty that I'm not promised to anyone and I'm hurt that YOU of all people would doubt my intentions." He looked hurt and turned away to face the window. Urmila was at a loss of words, as she stood there transfixed without any clue as to how salvage the situation. Why did she doubt him? How could she be so short sighted and blunt to have questioned him? She sighed and said, "You have never given me any reason to think otherwise Rajkumar. I may be Janaknandini but I do not possess the art of mind reading. I'm a woman and sometimes however incomprehensible it is to you Prince, we too need words...and in situations like this the phrase 'actions speak louder than words' is not always true. Good day." She ran out of the room rubbing her eyes furiously without looking back even once as she heard him calling her name out behind her.
