Shruthi, very well explained by you! Yes, Rama wouldn't lift the dhanush, because he doesn't do things merely to prove a point to show his strength. He is maryada purshottam and is aware of the maryada of an occasion like a swayamvar and its impact on his and Sita's family.
He is not aware that an invitation was sent for him, and he was there just to see the dhanush and not to take part in the swayamwar. So to get provoked by Janaks words and showing off his capability would be to disrespect Sita and the swayamwar and obviously rama would never do that.

Though here he is breaking it deliberately, so the only explanation for it could be that, the purpose for which the shiv dhanush was made and given by Lord shiva to Janak's ancestors was done & it was time for it to break so that there could be no further altercations arising from the dhanush still being there.

The version I ha dears was that Rama was so strong that in trying to string it, it broke into 2

@bold - even I have read this., that it is the result of a "moment" of wavering of his concentration.

I even felt, they have shown this in the show , today.

The little smile he gives, seeing Sita , just before readying himself to tie the string 😊

Well another thing that rises a question in my mind is that, why did ram break the dhanush? I am sure there would have been a reason. I herd from my elders that ram was sooo powerful that while trying the string it , he broke the dhanush BY MISTAKE. But here he broke it on purpose. Any idea why ?

In Ramayana, Ram didn't try to break Shiv dhanush. Truth is he couldn't string Bow without breaking. in fact Ram didn't participate any Swayamwar

Lovely take on today's episode. Janak was right when he pointed out about the shiv dhanush. The kings who attended the swayamvar were well aware and they knew that everyone cannot succeed. Even in a game if one team wins the other team loses. It's not possible for both the teams to win. Here too it was the same. But, if you accept defeat graciously no harm is done instead of pointing fingers and create a scene.
Laxman always had a soft corner for Ram and hence couldn't bear it when Janak said there was no one who could lift the dhanush. Again it was a spur of the moment from him. And, Ram standing mute was understandable, since he had not come to participate in the swayamvar. And, besides without his parents' consent he wouldn't go ahead. But, when Guru Vishwamitra asked him he went ahead to lidt the dhanush since a Guru is as equal to parents.

I heard that it was broken due to extra strength given to it out of distraction of seeing sita...and in real sense they say that this was broken to letdown the ahankar of parashuram who comes there to punish ram...there he gets to the real roop of ram and asks ram to bow his danush into sky and let break his ahankar...(proudness)

They say that breaking is the idication that he is the one to make his ahankar down...

Dont know how much reality in this but i heard this way ..

Basically two major things led RaghuNanda to break Shiv Dhanush.

1.Ram wasn't 25/30 old Young Hot man at when he broke Bow. He was 16 years old teen. Though Ram was Taller than any other. at that age, Bow Length was more than his height.

2.At Shiv vs Vishnu war,Vishnu broken Shiv dhanush string (some versions telling Vishnu didn't break but unstrung that bow). so String length Must be lesser than original.

So Raghava needed to bend more than others. Due to his Unmatchable willing, Bow broken as two pieces.

It is very rare that your expectations about the presentation of an episode is not only met but are exceeded. Today's episode did it quite credibly .If yesterday a daughter's" love and concern "shone through, today it was about a Girl's tangibly unacknowledged feelings about her choice ,being proved right.
There were almost three instances that supported this: The first glance exchanged between Ram and Sita, when VM was challenging the out of control kings in the venue .It is, as if the world around them has ceased to exist...till he collects himself and looks away...Great acting by the leads.
You are absolutely right Shruthi, Ram could not have moved to lift the 'dhanush' without his Guru's permission. But his stoicism came through clearly. kudos to the actor again.
Then comes the second exchange of glance between them ,when his guru tells him to ease a father's worry and silence the dissenting voices by lifting the bow .It was as if he was telling her not to worry as their time had come!
Then the final moment when Ram lifts the bow and looks at her with a smile! Again on the mark Shruthi...Oh boy! what a smile!😆

@Shruthi: Wonderful take. Though the episode rendered different version from what I read, I thoroughly enjoyed this perspective too. Somewhat I felt Laxman as Malyavan, my opinion is CV's could have avoided it (maybe to show Laxman as impulsive, they used the situation).😉

Coming to the topic concern, yes, Ram came to swayamvar just obeying Guru Vishwamitra so obviously he can't act on his own.

Regarding breaking of bow, as far as I know its due to its mighty power. But I feel CV's wants to make a point that its intentional to prove once the purpose of creation/avatar is over, the mission should end. We see in rocket launch, once the it reaches the particular altitude, the solid rocket boosters are separated from space shuttle for the journey of rocket to continue.

When Janak associated lifting Shiv Dhanush with Sita's marriage, the dhanush should be destroyed as no one should ever think of lifting the dhanush in the future. Though its not the epic depiction, I just feel so.
