Today I was debating about couple of points to discuss, whether Janak's line of bendind the rules, breaking of Shiv Dhanush. But I have decided today to stick to the Acharan or action of our Maryada Purushottam.
Yes Lakshman was agitated that his brother is not considered for lifitng Shiv Dhanush. Lakshman's view was myopic. He was only considering about the challenge of lifting the dhanush. And like a loving and doting brother who didnt like the fact when his Ram Bhaiyya is there how can a king of another land say there is no one capable of doing such a tough task. Lakshman was carried away by emotions.
And the kings they are anyway morons, they took Ram's silence as Ram's fear to accept the challenge. They laughed that he is standing mute because he is in a embarrassed situation.

But what was the real reason Ram stood mute. Ram was mute not because he was afraid to face the challenge. Ram was mute because it was not a competition where you are going to get a trophy. It was a condition for marrying a woman. If he lifts the dhanush he was going to get a wife. After lifting it he cannot tell, I won the competition but I dont want the girl.

To participate in a swayamvar he needed permission. He had not come from his home send by his parents to participate in this swayamvar. And as a noble born and a noble son it was not right for him to go on his own and participate in the swayamvar.

But he gets order from his guru to go and string the bow, to relieve Raja Janak of baseless allegations. When Viswamitra asks him to do so he moves ahead because in absence of the parents, guru can take a stand and a shishya is suppose to obey the guru. When Vishwamitra told he gets the right to participate in the swayamvar.

And if you look when he agrees he clearly says I will do it because it is essential for the respect of not only Raja Janak, but also Sita. His action was completely justified and in line with the tagline of Maryada Purushottam.

He understood the maryada of Swayamvar, and behaved accordingly. And each of his step from the time he take blessings to the moment he lifts the dhanush we can see confidence and humility oozing through him. Ashish simply nailed it. And that smile at Siya when he lifts the bow 😳. I am going need to watch it again😳😳

Shruthi lovely post
Agree with it..
Lakshman is emotional n did from his brotherly love... But our Maryada purushottam know the rules imp of Swaymvar n he did accordingly...
his parents were not there but his guru who is equal to GOD n Parents n who just give the permission..
Ram with humble way bowed give respect ...like Hari worshiping Har ..its such beautiful moment..
Har smiling at Hari...
n Sita praying n at with ease with respect Ram lifted the Shiv Dhanush
such beautiful moment
He is confident humble n immense patience ...
he respect elders n with their blessing he went to lift the Dhanush..
indeed Ashish nailed it..
such beautiful an epi...
loved it n enjoyed it...

Thank you shruti ! I was just thinking about this and after reading your post you've filled in all the blanks in my mind :D
Well another thing that rises a question in my mind is that, why did ram break the dhanush? I am sure there would have been a reason. I herd from my elders that ram was sooo powerful that while trying the string it , he broke the dhanush BY MISTAKE. But here he broke it on purpose. Any idea why ?

Perfectly said! Even I was thinking the same. Ram being a noble born did not get emotionally carried away by the situation though he knew that the situation was unjust for Janak and Sita.
Immediately after getting the "Adesh" from his Guru he took a step forward which was perfect for the situation.

It was an absolutely beautiful episode today, Shruthi!

Had tears in my eyes when Ram lifted the bow high up. There was a certain spirituality about the moment!

Ashish's body language and expressions were picture perfect today. I also liked Siya's expressions.

Rajrishi Janak was righteous in his anger and as always, the actor did a fabulous job. In fact, I think everyone was spot on today!

In the absence of his father, the guru takes his place. And it would have been impertinent and out of character for Ram to act without his consent! It was most appropriate that he moved after Vishwamitra gave his go ahead.

A must watch again epi!

@Krishna and Bertie from the time SKR started I was going on telling in the forum the beauty of the Swayamvar. I was telling the only moment that can match the epic moment is in Ramayan itself where Sita gives her hair ornament to Hanuman. And I am very much thankful to CVs, directors and actors that they gave the perfect feel to the scene. The happiness of Sita, her smile was from the heart. It was the smile of the woman whose faith and choice both had won. She had endured a lot of insult for no fault of hers, but in the end the Lords who she worshipped granted her the wish.
@cactus this is my take of breaking the Dhanush. The Dhanush was the symbol of Sita's power. Her individuality. Through marriage Sita is becoming part of Ram or his ardhagnini. Now her power or Shakthi is not independant, but she has to use it according to the dharma along with him for the betterment of family, of that of society. Hence anything that shows her identity alone is taken away. Now their identity is together Siya Ram. And we need to notice that Ram is not forcefully making Sita his part, she is willing to be his Shakthi and ardhagnini.

Loved every bit of today's epi. The sheer acting brilliance of the entire team can b seen in today's epi. Have never seen anyone playing Janak's char so beautifully b4. SKR team deserves all accolades for their hard work and impeccable acting skills. Coming to d show stealer what can I say abt Ashish Sharma he is epitome of perfection. He makes everyone believe that he's d real Ram. Madirakshi is d best choice 4 Sita those expressions oozes love in every frame. Urmila, Lakshman and Vishvamitran all r too good. Seeing the parallel connection btw Siyaram and Urlaksh Laxman and Urmila's story is very much there. It might start frm 2morrow may b. i cant express in words how much I enjoyed today's epi. I literally had tears in my eyes when Ram lifts d bow. Hats off 2 SKR team!!!!!!!!!!!!👏

Well said dear..
Lakshman Said all this in emotional and he can't hear any bad words or insult about his brother although janak didn't say but it includes them too as he said no one is here who can lift shiv dhanush and Lakshman can't bear that his brother can't do that...
But ram he knows he is here as students of guruVm and he will do whatever he will says and after his permission...
He moves when VM says go ram and swayamvar win means Sita as his wife so he needs to think on that side also...
Fantastic episode...

There are actually various versions that say different things, one says that ram looked at Siya and in that moment Pvr distracted and exerted more pressure than necessary and the bow broke.
Though here he is breaking it deliberately, so the only explanation for it could be that, the purpose for which the shiv dhanush was made and given by Lord shiva to Janak's ancestors was done & it was time for it to break so that there could be no further altercations arising from the dhanush still being there.

Shruti, what a good post. Ashish as Ram is PERFECTION! Just when He lifted the divine bow, tears welled up in my eyes. It was a moment of catharsis for me as a viewer which no show has managed to achieve in a long long long time! It looks as if Ashish has been born to play Ram.⭐️⭐️⭐️
Madirakshi adequately matched him up in expressing her rejoice! <3
