@shruthi: I was a victim in my school but actually turned as a rebel because of them. All credit goes to my adorable school teachers.👏
I read ur post before edit, ditto totally agreed. Sailing in the same boat that too in TN hope u can understand the rest.
I started questioning from my school days and it continues till date because i am not satisfied with the answers which i get and not sure of my own interpretations. Yes gita is the best guide but its really difficult to attain that level.
@Mano:Thank u Mano. See all rebels are from convent.😉
By the way mine was Girls Hr Sec Sch😉. so u know why i am feminist😆

@pinky the mantra was " Jagat sathyam brahma midhya". It means world is the reality, brahma or supreme power is an illusion. I also studied in girls school only till 10th. Then 11th and 12th Predegree in Women's college. I actually went to a mixed environment first time for my B-Tech. Not only school, but many customs in my family also shaped the feminist in me. Preference of boy child, telling again and again you will be married and then you will go away. You belong to your sasural. Terms like Kanyadaan. Changing the name of the girl post marriage in my community shredding her complete pre-marital identity. Making a boy child sit near the lady during the function that happen during the 8th month of pregnancy with the belief that she will beget a boy and the most interesting custom of all. Eating Boli ( a sweet) during pregnancy will get you a girl child and avoiding giving Boli to the pregnant lady. Uff I can list a lot that have pained me as a girl and still pains me as a woman. Because at grass root levels things are same.

@Shruthi: Woh same thought. Not only my school even my grandparents are the cause for my attitude of feminism but not my parents. U know i have an elder brother (male chauvinist) who is the best eg for both being good friend and good enemy at the sametime😉.
Not only school, my UG was also womens college. But my PG and Ph.D made me understand the actual meaning of feminism.
This is what i want to see from sita vision.

Very beautiful post

Always love to read your take !!

It was a very beautiful episode and the conversation between Ram and Jabali was very well written..
The compassionate human being in Ram made him ponder over the so called "rules" of the society.. Only brahmins and business class have a right to seek help from the king? Why not poor?
Jabali's answers were really good...
You worded them out very well

Love the fact that Ram and Jabali have totally different way of looking towards life, still Ram respects his views...

Even I don't understand why asking questions is considered wrong, it doesn't show disrespect to elders ... If something is wrong it needs to be questioned ...
Every one has a right to question...

Excellent post Shruthi. I completely agree with you. The fear of failure is so crippling that it paralyses us from moving forward in our lives and failure for some is too great a pain to live with it that they choose death. It is also our subconscious need of validation from others that makes us dread the thought of being labeled a failure. You know this reminds me of a quote by Thomas Edison .''Show me a thoroughly satisfied man and I will show you a failure''.

That's an interesting outcome of this post of yours Shruthi - studying in a girls school ingrains independence of mind and thoughts - well I too studied in a girls school through till class 12 and only in my engineering was in a co-ed.
a beautiful post from you Shruthi, you know when I decided to start posting in SKR forum, I was hoping you'd be there too, for your posts add a very spiritual depth to the discussions

I fully agree with you, that our culture dissuades questioning, equating it to disrespect - thus stifling learning in the process.

In my profession of education, I find it so hard to see that students are afraid to ask questions, and are discouraged from it, because we teachers find it convenient and don't want to be challenged.

As you rightly pointed out, Rama's questions were a result of his inner turmoil, and we're not in any way disrespectful.

I loved how jabali by bringing in the parent child power equation indirectly prodded Rama to directly question his mother about the doll, and not settle for anything less than the truth!
