Fear of failure- Base of illusions and controls- Jabali to Ram

It was another wonderful epi which showed the debate between Ram and Jabali. Jabali knew the young prince would come to him. Jabali also knew a person who is empathetic cannot miss certain things in Ayodhya and those things will raise question in him.
And of course Ram asks the valid questions. If king needs to keep a distance, why it is not applicable to Brahmins and traders. Why the distance only with the poor. Jabali replies it is because king wants the Brahmins and traders to show the prosperity of his kingdom. They are his success stories, whereas poor are his failures. People are poor, suffering because somewhere the administration has failed them. And no king wants to face failures.
And to ensure such failures are not shown to the king controls in the name of rules are kept. You cannot question king because he is like God. You cannot question your parents because they are God. So everything non questionable is given a God like authority, God like aura to ensure the power structure.
And I have to agree to Jabali. Questioning is so much discouraged in our culture. We cannot question parents, we cannot question elders, we cannot question teachers and it is so ingrained in the child's mind that even when questions need to be asked they hesitate to ask. Instead of asking questions they will find ways to circumvent the rules, do things what they want behind the back of the parents, teacher, society while keeping a sanskaari front face. And many times such people are encouraged by good people in the name of family ties, relations etc..
Even today there are woman who tell Panchali shouldn't have questioned in the infamous hall of dice. Even today many believe it was her question that led to the war. When someone question the power structure it is labeled as intolerance. When someone questions an unethical practice they are called rebels.
Anybody who had known me from DABH forum would know how much I have written about this lack of questioning by the protoganists both male lead and female lead to the MIL is the major drawback of the show. The worship like aura given to Bhabo who commits many a mistake and leads justifying those mistakes and incidentally the leads are called Ram-Sita. So lack of questioning is directed to the great epic. And this is what I had been telling misinterpretation of Ramayan in the society to subjudicate the good.
And what did we see today. We saw a questioning Ram. But not as a rebel. But the one who needs answers. He is not challenging, he is trying to understand. Understand the fault lines. Why people are so much afraid of failure. Because failure teaches you a lot. Failure does help you to become a better person. But alas our ego doesn't allow us to face failure. Hence it loves the illusion and uses control so that we are not faced with our failures.
When we have an oppourtunity to learn from our kids, we deny us that opportunity. We believe after certain age we become so knowledgeable we don't need additional knowledge. We stop the process of learning and continue to live in the past glory, while the world moves on.
We have to encourage questioning. Great discoveries and inventions were born from the question. When apple fell on Newton's head he questioned why it fell. We got laws of motion and gravity. Edison did more than 100 experiments before he found the right element for electric bulb. Each failure made them search more. And their search helped humanity a lot.
And we have to look at Ram. Yes the youngster is worried but when Jabali says relations doesn't matter, you have to be self sufficient, the youngster says relations do matter. There is a beauty in them. You have to respect them. Ram is trying to strike a balance between his thoughts and his beliefs. He is not blindly rejecting anything, neither blindly accepting something. The rational mind works, questions and tries to arrive at answers. And that is what is making him different. The questions and the ability to ask the questions the right way.

Once again a good episode and a nice selection of the topic shruthi.
I liked the way Ram questioned and talked with jabali. I am brought up from a christian school where teachers are well trained in brain washing students. I had respect for my teachers but it didnt restrict me from asking questions. Though my teachers welcomed them in subjects they refused the same ideology in preaching. I remembered those incidents while watching jabali-Ram convo.
U can listen to anyone but final decision should be yours after examining from all aspects. I liked Ram thought process which gave him the confidence of asking his mother about shanta.
Jabali's reply for Ram reg. fear about failure is quite understandable. In institutions during inspection only good students will be asked to answer their questions and our notes will be placed in their table. So its just not king's wish alone but the ministers do so to be in good pages of kings book.😉

@Ramya we have so much in common. I also studied in a convent school. Yes it did help me to have a command in English language, have laid the right foundation for my career, when I look back, I understand it kept me away from my culture.
And then we need to understand there is a whole system. Everyone wants to hide inefficiencies, but a great king is one who is able to see things beyond the illusion shown to them. Because he is the decision maker. He should have mechanisms to see through his ministers or soldiers inefficiency.
Even in our government bureaucrats ensure common man doesn't reach the minister by creating one hurdle after another.
It's the e-facility that has reduced a lot of corruption in various places. For Passport, License, train travel has become a lot hassle free because of e-governance. And RTI it has done wonders to our country exposing scam after scam.

@Shruthi: Its good to hear that even our schooling is similar. Actually I was focused to spirituality/religion just because of my school. To know whether our system is right or not, i started learning about it during those school days.
We cant simply disagree to something w/o knowing it.
Coming to king dhasarath, yes it shows its inefficiency governance. But dont u think Ram gave concern to everyone which forced him to lose his sita?
On a lighter note: by anyway r u chennaite?😉

@Ramya Sita banishment we will discuss when it come to that. Let us see how they show it. Now we are jumping the gun because we know the story 😃. Yes harsh information came to him. But if you look at it one way, he faced that information which is really a hard thing to do. So we will have to see how it plays out.
And I am not Chennaite. I belong to Kerala Trivandrum to be specific. Coming to religion, spirituality my whole family is religious. At a very young age I was send to weekend classes happening in my community temple for Bhagavad Gita. And then Amar Chitra Katha happened, along with Mahabharath and Ramayan of DD days. Then there was no looking back from these books. And I spend my time to understand them, trying to decode the message in them. And shows like SKR is really helping me in that journey.

@Shruthi: I felt this behaviour of Ram was the reason for separation. Anyway as u mentioned lets wait for the moment how they handle it.
Oh, not chennai okay, at last something different😆.
As i told u already my family is so religious, but almost all have full faith somewhat vasistha advaitham principles. So to tackle the blame put forth by my teachers in our custom I got interest in knowing both plus and minus. Still i feel the rituals in our culture which i think is a minus has hidden mystery in it.

Thanks Aayushi for your appreciation.
@Ramya so you also was a victim of custom bashing in school. I too have suffered especially on my food habits of being a vegetarian, till I could link the food habits and nature of the person which even science is talking these days. It is said that food we consume define the qualities in us. If I am right even Bhagavad Gita talks about it in chapter 17.
See we are forced to suffer custom bashing is because we cannot answer back rationally on our philosophy. It is so much hidden in rituals. If we can talk back about our custom in the language of science rationally then I don't think anybody can question Sanathana Dharma.
