First time Mauli made me really angry - Page 2

i would to add one more thing to this confidence thing..

@pw: I'll be honest, this show could have been a landmark show in itv but they bungled up... They destroyed kunal and Nandini in one sweep n now trying their hand at Mauli...like it or not but ema is an uncomfortable reality in our society...this kind of story required mature handling...have you watched the movie "Arth"...that was a path breaking movie with ema at its centre... The way the story was weaved you couldn't hate the other woman played splendidly by Smita Patil and Shabana Azmi as the wronged wife was phenomenal... In the end despite having a wonderful guy as her suitor, Shabana decides to stay single...She forgives her ex husband but doesn't take him back...her one dialogue has stayed with me "agar tumhari jagah maine Yeh kiya hota, to Kya tum mujhe Phir apnate "...what a powerful word play..

Rimjhim, I totally understand your point, Mauli did come across as meek and vulnerable in front of Ishaan's mom but she didn't cave in to all her demands. This being her first meeting with his Maa, I think she was being respectful and guarded. Mauli has too much on her plate right now. I believe she'll take a firm stand if and when the need arises. I agree though, his mom's kuwari ladki, divorcee and ehsaan wale talks were way too out of line and downright insensitive and ridiculous. I am not sure here if Ishaan's mom knows the reasons of Mauli's divorce, if she did I don't think she'd come down this harshly at Mauli knowing the fact that Mauli wasn't at fault in the first place. That being said, I still felt even if she knew or didn't know the reasons for Mauli's divorce, her thought process is very very rigid and narrow minded.
Unfortunately, divorce is still considered a stigma in our society, especially for a woman, society makes women feel like excluded and devalued. They are made to feel a sense of shame and failure, which unfortunately is a fact, be it in the upper class society or in a middle class background. Ishaan's mom's concerns for her son are practical but her approach is very demeaning. She should stop judging and stigmatizing Mauli. Like you said everyone cannot be a Dida or a Radhika. But I will not write off Sandhyaji completely as of now.. I still believe she isn't evil and you never know with these writers. They are known to overnight go for a 360 degree turn and change the whole scenario.

It's not just about his mother not being as open minded and "modern". She indirectly talked down about Mauli several times. She accepted Mauli with her "baggage". Ishaan deserved a kunwari ladki. I don't care what changes happen to Ishaan's mom down the road but the day anyone acts like they are doing me a favor by accepting me and my child, I am out. I didn't need Mauli to be hostile and rude. But she didn't stand up for herself. If she is leaving Ishaan it's because she is feeling guilty that she is not good enough for him. I am wary of all saas who talk down to their DILs, especially the ones who are not bad people. Her concern about Kunal is right, but there is more going on here.

I think Ishaans mom is just behaving like a typical parent. Remember parents are selfish when it comes to their children. They don't want to see their children suffer in any way even if their children are grown adults. It's true Mauli has a lot of baggage, she's still living with her in-laws in her ex husband house, her ex husband can come to the house whenever he wants...I really don't think radhika is going to ask Kunal not to come there , and Mauli still has feelings for Kunal. I think Ishaans mom has seen all of this and feels why does her handsome young single son need to have all these issues in his life. So I think Ishaans mom is just looking out for the best for her son. So we can understand where she is coming from..but remember she said that she will accept Mauli and mishty. But at the end of the day, Mauli is marrying Ishaan and not his mom. So if Ishaan is fine with all of Maulis issues then Mauli should consider him not his mom..as Ishaan knew everything about Mauli when he proposed.

probably she also THINKS that there is some "kami" in her and its actually love-cum-ehsaan that ishaan is marrying her.. so not taking a stand for herself when she doesnt value herself is obvious..

i am guessing this.. baki we have to wait and watch ..
