here, that dynamic is missing from nandini and kunal. can understand why some viewers feel exasperated because the writing waffles between nandini/kunal are good vs both are just flawed. if they write them as good anti-heroes, a bittersweet ending for kunal and nandini would still be possible where they are together and somewhat happy but still facing some sort of consequences (kind of like kabhi alvida na kehna)...

simple story -- why make it so confusing? yup, we need better dialogues, less stares and please no head banging for kunal. there's only so much his bones can take no? 😉

You know your anti-hero post really made me think on these characters. Mauli and Rajdeep are easy characters and they really do not need any work. Their path on any action is simple. But Nandini and Kunal are the grey characters. They are not negative and hence their reaction to a particular situation differs from what we think should be the norm based on the positive characters.

Like, for example, Nandini . We expect her to be white but as she is gray, when the question came to choose between her happiness and her best friend's happiness, she chooses her. Even now, she knows her actions are hurting Mauli but she is not being sacrificing and going away. She is waiting. So if Kunal comes to her, she is not going to ask him to go and be self sacrificing which is the selfish part of her character. But if Kunal wishes to go, she is going to not stop him, because that the sacrificing part of her character and hence the gray. I guess this means they are Ok to do the good deed but are not going to it at the cost of their own happiness.

But Kunal is different gray, For him his own happiness is important but not at he cost of his family. Hence, we see him remorseful as he knows he is hurt the three ladies in his life and that the good part of his nature. But then there is a other part which only cares for Nandini and when it comes to choose between the two, he would lean toward her. But I think he will choose based on his savior instinct. So if he thinks, his sacrifice will save his family's happiness, I think he will choose that option even if he has to walk out of Nandini's life. But will he able to let her go fully is something that we will just have wait and watch and that where his grayness comes into picture.

The problem is because they were portrayed as leads we want to see their whitewash actions but if we see them as gray characters, not negative, in a weird way their actions do make sense. Hence we see the pendulum between a good deed and a bad deed in every episode.

Yes, the dining table scene was heartbreaking. Trying to hold her composure, not breaking up but still unable to do it and no support. Because the people who would have understood her pain are the reason for her pain.

More shit coming up with Kunal telling Nandini that hum hamesha saath rahenge. So his mind is made finally.
Dida's Heart attack may bring him back home but seeing him sad, Mauli will bring Nandini too I bet!

My biggest problem with this whole affair has been absolute absence of emotional heart-to-heart talk between the two. I mean no one asked questions about WHYs, so many of WHYs should have been asked & answered.
All I could see in this affair was a Dom-Sub relationship minus hardcore sex stuff.
Looking at the timeline of the affair-
Day 1- Kunal proposes, Nandini accepts. Kunal orders her to cook for him, hug him, she does.
Day 2- He asks to dress up in Red saree, she complies. Rajdeep tried to rape Nandini & still no talk between the two
Day 3- Mauli's brother fiasco & Kunal-Nandini coffee date in the next day as if that rape attempt had no impact.
Day 4- They have sex, still no talking about what they did. It was a huge thing. But NO, still not going there.
Day 5- Kunal asks her to confess her feelings for him otherwise he wouldn't eat, she does that.
Day 6- Kunal asks her to meet him in cafe, she goes to share how Mauli is getting suspicious.
Day 7- Bam, the affair out in open.

Where the hell was communication, actual talking between the two which should have formed the crux of the affair. The way the whole affair was shown, everyone will feel it to be a more of a fantasy of Kunal-Nandini rather than strong & deep feelings of love.

Kottary did a terrible job at writing the whole affair in the show. She did a splendid job in BV with developing every single bond even the whole affair portion of Jagya, violence of Ganga & her fight after that, Shiv-Anandi gradual development to love, Sanchi's transformation from bitter to sensible women, even the rape attempt on Sanchi. Here, she just lost it. She has written best for Mauli & worst for the other 2.

For the next one month, Kunal will have to take a final decision but I hope that Mauli closes herself as an option. Kunal can go to Nandini & she can have him by all means. But I think makers have planned a twist in that too. Kunal actually not thinking about Nandini at all in all this surprised me since it speaks of how indecisive & impulsive he is.

Your summary just cracked me up and seriously, why did they rushed would always the mystery. I was not active on SM but may be because there was a demand for KuNan romance?. But even then I think, now should have been the time when they started showing the feelings between them after they had gone through her recovery friendship phase etc.

Anyways, the biggest dilemma I guess they had was the best-friend angle, how to make as woman fall in love with a best-friends husband and the husband fall in love with the wife's best-friends. They choose the divine angel which back-fired horribly. Instead they could have shown a slow development of their relationship with scenes where Nandini understand him more or relates with him more which would have been digestible

Second, they went with the silence angle. I guess it was to show the stark contrast of the two relationships but then the speed with which things moved no one was able to connect. They forgot they are catering to a audience where majority of them need things to be spelled out especially with a sensitive topic like EMA. If they wanted to use silence, then they should have shown multiple scenes of same thing so that the message would have come across or use self talk to answer the "Why's" that everyone has. Hopefully they show us some conversation now...

@bold: Though i wish that she would not take Kunal back, I would not begrudge her that choice if she does make it. I think she will close the door but she will open it if Kunal comes knocking now, specially because of family pressure and her mother who does seems have an impact on her. Also, loneliness is a sad companion. Kunal is her weakness but I do hope that she makes sure that the Kunal that is coming to her is her Kunal, the one whose heart and soul is owned by her and not Nandini. I think she would keep hoping for a reconciliation till Kunal himself tells her in plain words that its Nandini who hold his heart and not her. Their relationship is of the verbal nature and she will need that verbal confirmation for her to totally close that door which he has not yet given.

They really are taking the story forward through circumstances and not making kunal say anything clear. They WERE rather. The new promo and the circumstances leading upto what was shown in it should shed some light on kunal.

So its not that mauli is just randoomly assuming things, now also with mauli giving the divorce paper, kunal still has an option to sign or not and ask mali that he wants to reconcile

Absolutely. But if you think about it even these were indications not enough. Like pamk06 said on the previous page, the password was accompanied with hesitation. Hesitation to speak to Nandini, hesitation to clear things with Mauli, hesitation to leave the house. Somewhere Mauli must have noticed. Even if she's too self-respecting to forgive Kunal, she loves Kunal and somewhere hopes that it was a passing fling and nothing else. It wasn't until the hospital that she finally realized that she had been completely replaced. Nandini had even taken her role as wife. The divorce is just to give Nandini that position legally.

@ Bold: I feel here Mauli was trying to tell herself that she has been completely replaced. What I found interesting throughout yesterday's episode is that neither of the two thought about Kunal's feelings. They were thinking about each other and replacing each other. Mauli saw that scene in the hospital and realized Nandini had replaced her and Nandini saw Kunal in her house and thought that she had now replaced Mauli. I mean what other explanation can there be for the Mrs. Kunal Malhotra?

@ Blue: This scene gave me those same feelings as well. Nandini was just so happy to have Kunal around that she didn't even think about what effect it might be having on others around her. Somewhere what she said to Mauli makes sense now. She was just looking for love and someone who cared about her and she found it in Kunal. Now it'll be hard for her to let go of Kunal. This might be how they show Kunal's redemption though. Nandini becomes this clingy woman who Kunal has grown out of, realizing it was just a fling, but he can't leave because else it'll kill Nandini. Of course that would be such an odd change in Nandini. I get her needing Kunal, but somehow I don't picture her becoming clingy and even suicidal. Yet it sort of gave that feeling when Nandini said, "woh sapna tha" and then touched him as if trying to tell him "but this is reality".

@ Red: I couldn't believe my ears when Nandini said "Kunal kheer ko kabhi mana nahi karenge". I was like are you serious woman? You both have just been exposed to Mauli. You've broken her heart and instead of continuously trying to make up to her, you're thinking about feeding Kunal kheer. Kheer is a sign of celebration. You feed someone sweets when it is a festival or a happy occasion, not during such times. But then again it reiterates the above. For Nandini, having Kunal in her house is a happy moment and nothing can stop her from feeling happy. She's also already adjusting to having him around. Look at the way she cleaned up his room and thought about his watch. She even imagined that it was Kunal at the door, probably returning for his watch like any normal husband, but Kunal isn't even in a state to think about his watch. Also Kunal not eating signifies that maybe he's starting to already rethink whether this was a good idea or not.

@ Italics: In a way though this proves my earlier point that Mauli and Nandini are deciding themselves what they want to do with Kunal. Nandini decided to become Kunal's wife instead of calling his family when he had his accident. She decided to bring him back to her place instead of asking him what he wants to do. Mauli has decided that Nandini loves Kunal so much and has completely replaced her. She has decided that Kunal should stay "happily" with Nandini and hence the divorce. No one is asking Kunal what he wants and this is probably what the CVs are moving towards.

I remember this old movie that starred Raj Babbar and two other actors (I don't remember their name now). The movie revolved around the triple talaq where the husband one day divorces his wife in anger and she starts working in the same office as Raj Babbar and the two fall in love and get married. But then this husband returns and Raj Babbar sees a really old love letter and misunderstands that his wife doesn't love him and wants talaq to go back to her old husband. He offers it and the old husband tells her to take it, but she refuses. She demands to know why she is treated as furniture that can be passed from one hand to another without its opinion being taken into account. It was a very emotional message and question and in the end she stayed with Raj Babbar who she had come to love. I can't remember the name of the movie, but in a way Kunal is that wife between Mauli and Nandini and the CVs can easily go down the same path that the wife went down with questions and an emotional speech and then choosing to stay with Mauli or Nandini.

I don't think Mauli here is assuming anything. Kunal here is the one who broke his vows and Kunal's actions here are speaking to Mauli louder than his words. Changing the PW, walking out of the house , leaving his family - all actions , pushing her further and further into hopelessness. And whatever Mauli witnessed in the hospital , thought I am not sure if I should call it the final nail in the coffin, it has enough weight to maker her want to go for a separation. If he wants Mauli to think any differently, he should be opening his mouth and actually talking to her. I haven't watched the movie that you have referenced in your post, but here it is in his hands to break his silence, which I am sure he will, when confronted. And the fact that he cheated is not really a misunderstanding, which was the case in the movie.

It seems that Mauli's "Nandini loves Kunal more than me" really resonated with lot of people but i saw it in a slightly different way.

So lets go back a couple of days. From Mauli's POV, during the whole confrontation, Kunal not once apologized or said he has made a mistake or that he wants to reconcile. Through that whole thing, Mauli was thinking, this was a fling, a distraction, something temporary but then she hears him taking her name. Her first indication that things are not what she it seems. Next day, he opens his mouth and Nandini calls. His first reaction should have been to cut the phone but she sees him indecisive, between picking up the phone and talking to Mauli. Then, she becomes hopeful again that he is still with her when she sees him defending her against his Mom and accepting his mistake so she is ready to reconcile. But then she catches him talking to Nandini and the final stroke was the password. At that moment, she realizes that she has been replaced. Kunal is very serious about Nandini and his feelings are more intense than she thought and thus she decides to leave the house. But then Kunal leaves.

Then, in her mind, she is thinking that may be Nandini enticed him. She thinks, that for Nandini, he is her toy and she just wanted to play with him for sometime. She is thinking for Nandini, Kunal is her rebound, and Nandini is not at all serious about Kunal. its a fling for her and in her quest, Nandini has broken her house. But then we come to the hospital and thast when Mauli recognizes the depth of Nandini's feelings, how fargone she is in her affection, how important Kunal has become for her. She is so shocked with his revelation that her confidence in own love is shaken and hence the words. I think at that point she acknowledged that their relationship is not a fling, it not temporary, its something much more than that and that they both are very serious about each other.

Mauli has always been headstrong. Remember when Nandini came to her house and she immediately wanted her to file for divorce but then Kunal pulled her back and said that marriage are very deep relationships. They cannot be broken easily. It takes time. So, similarly in her case, she is come to a conclusion, that its not Nandini who is between them but she herself. So she decides to walk off and in her mind, divorce is the logical route and files for a divorce. This is so typical Mauli which we have seen so far. One example was the clinic. She did not stop to think what Kunal needs or whether he actually wants it. She thinks he wants it and she has taken the decision. As usual, Kunal will give in without a fight because that whats he has always done in their relationship

Coming to Nandini and their silence. Look back at their relationship, when have these two people needed words. Isn't that our whole frustration? Silence is their mode of communication since the beginning, right from the moment Nandini realized her feelings till date. They do not need words, they recognize what the other feeling just by looking at each other which we have seen in so many scenes till date. Even, the scenes after confession, there was just silent companionship there. Kunal recognized she was disturbed and he started making her comfortable without any words. Even the scene before consummation. There was just silent caring there. No words. Same thing yesterday. She is a person who from 100 Ft far in the garden recognized he was disturbed, here he is sitting next to each other. Of course she recognized his inner state, hence she was just giving him space which he needed to sort his thoughts and kept providing material comfort. Even Kheer was not because she was celebrating or something. Its the food therapy that all of us use. If someone is sad, we make them their favorite food, thinking that it will cheer them up. And she did the same thing. She knows him enough to recognize he will refuse food but she makes the kheer in the hope that being his favourite, he will not refuse.

Again coming to the expectations, she still does not expect him to stay back or come back. She says eat and go not even asking where he is going, if he will be coming back, nothing. IMO, even if they start living together, the day Kunal says he wants to walk off, she will let him go. She will not stop him. She only smiles when he says he will come back and thats more than enough for her.

And at this point my whole confusion starts. So in his conscious state Kunal remembers all three women and he recognizes that he has become the reason for the pain, hence his melancholy. Then, he is ready to go meet Mauli but he tells Nandini that he will come back and eat. Means he is still not ready to let Nandini go. He is still expecting to come back whatever happens with Mauli so does that mean he is not, thinking of reconciliation? If this the case, then the flashback does not make sense at all. Or is that his subconscious mind that wants him to go back?
Or another bizarre theory: Based on what we have seen so far, he has not been physically intimate with Mauli since he acknowledged his feelings. and once he confessed, we have seen him being uncomfortable with her. Was he pushing her back and the waking up in shock that he is doing something wrong? Hence, Nandini words, "Sapna tha, its Ok"?

I understood the intention behind making Mauli say that particular line. But the phrasing was off. I rather wish she had said, " when did they become so close" , or even wondering out loud, " so she loves him?" What ticked me off was the comparison with her own love and care for Kunal. No wife or partner would actually do that.

Bold 1 - I agree that it is in a way typical Mauli. But we are talking about a separation here. The biggest issue here is Kunal's silence, and like you said in one of your posts here, unless Mauli gets that verbal confirmation from him her thoughts are not going to change. Also, when she talks about divorce to him, I am sure in her heart of hearts she would still be expecting him to tell her that it was all a mistake.

Bold 2 - Hard to say really! The fact that he wants to come back does indicate that, in a way he has made up his mind. But he has been with Mauli for seven years and that has to mean something and hence some memories from his subconscious coming to the fore. Like I have said before, the guy had no issues in his marriage and actually loved his wife, so it is a little unrealistic for him to be able to emotionally disconnect himself from those memories so easily.

With regards to Nandini , I saw her actions in a completely different light, as mentioned in my post.

I really wish the writers themselves would come forward and tell us what they mean by all this. Just a brief peek into the minds of the characters would do.

If by some shitty turn of events, Nanidni and Mauli both end up under the same roof with Kunal, I am going to use my remote control power and say bye bye to this show forever. Because that is the kind of shit that Ekta pulls and I have lived through that once. No more !!
