Ohh I could hug you for listing most of my favs (ok except Atlas Shrugged - but I have a bone to pick with that Rand woman, but later on that).

You missed listing an all time- fav of mine - Wuthering Heights. Heathcliff has been the ultimate romantic hero for me, closely followed by Rhett Butler and Mr.Darcy.

@Chitrashi

Agree on Rand but i just cannot figure AS completely that book teases me, luvvv Heathcliff,

I recognized u as Butler fan when you wrote sumwhere" Frankly my dear, I give a damn", ufff he and darcy are the heroes from me too.

you should check out North and south , if possible its bbc adaption as well you would fall in luv with Mr Thonrton, Richard Armitage plays him too perfection, he is a mix of Darcy and Butler.

hugs bck!

Good topic! I need to pick up my book reading slack.

My all time favourite is the life of pi. They're adapting a movie on it and I'm so worried they'll mess it up.

I've never liked the book adaptations into movies. Somehow the director's version seems to kill what I create in my imagination. The worst was when I saw the first adaptation of Wuthering Heights, they killed my Heathcliff in that.

Agree so much is lost in adaptations, though Firth is an amazing actor but i still feel my Darcy has not being perfectly personified by anyone onscreen or even offscreen perfectly. Still i feel bbc adaptations somewhat retain the soul o the books.

BBC reminds me of the Jane Eyre and Anne of Green Gables mini series. and i loved them both. There have been quite a few movies for jane eyre though. The book is another story but movies help too. :)

Have to let you ladies know I am just gobbling up this discussion. I love books THAT much. You may already know this, but in case not, the classic like Wuthering Heights, Oliver Twist, Jane Eyre, even Tom Sawyer are free on Amazon for Kindle or the Kindle App. I have downloaded and rediscovering them again.

L M Montgomery has been a favorite author as a kid. I loved all the 'Anne' books. One day I wish to visit Prince Edward Island. Another book that inspired a travel decision was The Rains Came by Louis Bromfield. The author described India, the monsoon, the train journey so vividly that I wanted to experience all that. The film adaptation was nominated for 6 Academy Awards, winning for best special effects and sound effects.

A current favourite right now that I have read more than once is The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion. It helped me so much when my daughter was in the hospital. I even gave a copy to her surgeon.

I still remember my very first library book as a toddler. Thereafter, I have sweet memories of swapping Enid Blyton books with Classmates and my mum reading Noddy at bedtime.

I am so thrilled that my soon to be 6 year old daughter has the same love of books. She is quite a sight a the library.
