Ppl saying why did she not call 911???? I havent watched the show yet...but may be she didnt have phone access!!!! Something like this had happened with a pakistani friebd of mine. She was born in canada, raised in the US... Got engaged to her cousin from Pakistan. After the guy came to the US... Her father settled him in a business erc...they got married and that was it... He locked her inside a room, she was not able to tslk to anyone...her dad started to get worried but it took him 8 months to figure out... One day he decided to visit them at their place and when he was talking to his son in law...my friend heard him (her dad)... She started screaming -and got saved...now sge is a doctor...remarried to a very nice man and has a son!!!!!! So dont think things dont happen in the US or canada...they do!!!!!

Some places in US does have clean tap water fit for drinking but many other places the water tastes weird or has chemicals. So many ppl use filters. We use a filter attached to the tap to purify the water and when we go on vacations, we buy gallon jars of water.
This girl probably didnt know abt 911...the easiest way to call for help when ur in an emergency situation or being abused or beaten. She was new to the country.
It took me 5-6 yrs to learn all these details abt this country, like calling 911 can fetch the police to ur door within 15 mins.
That would have been the best way to deal with her husband's violence as he would be in jail for domestic violence and would be eventually deported for this criminal offence.
But she didnt know much abt the new country and she was scared, terrified and bullied like it happens in many NRI marriages here!

I have been in US for 6 long yrs.
Her story can be true but still it doesnt look intelligent to talk like -
no water
didnt call 911
didnt scream and call neighbours( i am sure there might be 1-2 indians at least)
why called women's welfare after 4 days

But all said, we can never understand what goes through a suffering person. she might be scared to death to take any action.

I have had a friend in US who used to work but still did not dare to utter a word against her in laws, she finally spoke and broke all relation when her 1 yr old son had to suffer.

Nobody can understand other person's situation.

I think when you are thirsty for 4 days you don't worry too much about how clean the water is. I can understand that you need filtered water in some places but I am sure you are not going to die if you drink tap water.

From what I have read and studied about traumatic situations I think Komal was in a state of shock . In US sooo many married women are abused, usually they call 911 after enduring for years. What we don't realise is that Komal's husband was an abuser who messed with her brain, confidence, self esteem... she probably over a period of time started believing she really was helpless.

I didn't understand the water issue either. But how could she have called 911? She said she had no money. She probably thought that she wasn't sick enough to go to the hospital in the beginning, and she may have been worried that she wouldn't get treatment because she didn't have money...or that she wouldn't be able to pay for it afterwards either. She didn't know anyone in the country...she wouldn't know where to go for help...like homeless shelters... I don't know...but I can see where she is coming from...everything except the water aspect.

She might've called 911 the same way she called the women's shelter.

I dont know about the tap water stuff but just because laws are good in US and 911 is available dsnt mean abuse dsnt happen there ...wether it be with asian females or the natives.
Abuse is just not about hitting but psycologicaly scaring the person and making him submissive.
Didnt a similar thing happen in delhi , a young maid was left locked inside the house for many days , food was available but she had been threatened from touching it .. she dint touch anything for a couple of days .. when it became a life and death issue she raised an alarm.
Even in Harish's case he says he was 18 and we may well ask why a 18 yr old boy didnt revolt ... but well he didnt.
Abusers don't think like us ... perido .. they are wired diffrent.
