Waise was I the only one who got emotional just listening to Aamir's monologue at the start? Maybe it's silly of me to compare the show to a fictional movie but I felt he successfully managed to awake the feelings of every Indian in RDB and he so again in Lagaan and he's doing it once more in Satyamev Jayate. The monologue to me was his way of saying 'power to the people' and indirectly making every Indian aware of the responsibility they have in society. Those few lines summed it up perfectly.

P.S. The sun probably only had that outline thanks to camera effects! lol

Okay then, hello Dia, JZ it is =)

I'm positive you were not the only one getting emotional about that prologue. In my most honest confession I think it was the bit that got me most emotional - perhaps, because while the rest of the episode brought out a range of extreme reactions and emotions in me, the only part that I can truly empathize with, is being in Aamir's shoes. This human being in a world where so much happens, that we see, and un-see day after day. The way he rolled out the making of this concept was truly inspiring, and the beauty of it - for me - lay in how simply and straight up it was rendered!

ps: I'm just plain weird to have even noticed the sun. I know, I know. 😆

However, a show like Crime Patrol has already achieved what SJ has only just aimed to. It has richer content and a better screenplay, but no Aamir Khan to host. Nevertheless, I hope this show does well and reaches out to a wider audience.

Heya (heroin?!)!

Specifically in reference to the part of your comment in bold, I want to say exactly, and that's why! It's not just about intention. It is also as much, sometimes even more, about the outreach. And for good or bad, it takes star power to bring about the expanse. It helps that Aamir is a face and a name that evokes credibility, and to a great extent, objectivity. It also helps that he resorted barely to patronizing and histrionics (not saying there was absolutely none, but for the most none) and sticks to implementing the concept he's started out with. While Crime Patrol is more about "actively exacting results" - Satyamev Jayate to me, is about revolutionizing a mass thought process. And in my opinion that is the way to touch the root of the problem and start uprooting it from there!

All in all, a good start, like you said. I'm very keen to see how he follows it up, because when one goes about a show like this in a typical procedural way, sometimes it tends to get too routine along the passage of time. I'm hoping the spark and overwhelming sense that it evoked in a widespread response is going to hold through...

JZ WORD on everything you wrote. Brilliant writeup. Concur with everything you guys wrote.

I am going to quote what Aamir said at the beginning of the show...loved what he said

"Sirf Hungama Khada Karna Mera Maksad Nahi.Meri Koshishi Hain Ki Yeh Suurat Badalni Chaahiye. Mere Sineey Mein Nahi Toh Tere Seeney Mein Sahi, Hoon Kahi Bhi Aag Lekin Aag Jalni Jaahiye"

I was stunned when Dr.Punit Bedi talked about an extensive program in 70's where girl child was considered as a byproduct that can be avoided. Was again stunned at the sting operation and the video showing female doctors suggesting ways on how to kill girl child. I loved that they showed Men who are above 35 and still not married cause of fewer girls. I am glad they showed the repercussions of killing girl child. I had goose bumps when Karminder Kaur talked about buying and selling girls and how a women is brought into a family for the men to satisfy their physical needs.

A big applause to Amisha, Parveen, Meetu for finally taking a stand.Loved Bharati from Ahemdabad. Standing ovation to everyone who is fighting against this crime. Hats off to Aamir and all the producers who have supported this show. Not too preachy nor did it had a documentary kind of approach.

If, atleast 25% of the people who have such mindset can get a change of heart I would say this show has created an awareness. I am really expecting an action being taken against all the families, doctors, lawyers and every person involved in these atrocities.

JZ...Me too hope that each one involved with the show gets duly credited, because of the amount of research that has been put into
the 1st episdoe itself is enormous. Each and everyone involved with bringing this awesome show to light needs a standing ovation. First episode was everything the promos promised. Also, I must say that Aamir made sure he was not the center of the episode and rather the cause/purpose was the center of the episode.

Actually brilliant post with every aspect explained but still I want to share few word.
Seriously Aamir know a balance in commercial medium and cause. The way show is conceptualized, every expect of it was dealt with consideration that this real social issue not just way to garner sympathetic trps. With some real heart wrenching stories to some real fact and numbers, the show could not be designed better than this. The way those numbers was explained, the impact of those number on every human , specially every girl even if we are not directly involved in it.

The live sting operation story, how after 7 years its one who brought truth are the one who are suffering. But that's how Indian political scenario is. To go and punish someone with political power on a issue, we just don't need truth, sometime rather most times we need masses, a literal revolution. The episode started with cause, flowed with data and culminated with solution, a real solution for real problem of real India.

As you said, with good production values, his own starpower, with strong distant reach from starplus to DD, if it manage to hit the right cord and create a strong awareness against the issue, its worth Aamir attempt, I respect his this attempt.
I would like to mention few lines from my fav writer poem here from dushyant kumar, which he too stated in start of show
Ho gayi hai peer parwat si pighlani chaiye,
iss himalaye se koi ganga nikalni chaiye
Har sadak har gali main, har ghawn main,
haath lahrate hue ek laash chalni chaiye
Sirf hugama karna mera muksat nahi,
meri koshish hai yeh surat badlani chaiye
Mere sine main nahi tere sine main sahi,
ho kahin bhi yeh aag jalani chaiye
I always loved this poem for its essence , its strong message with conviction, which is apt for his this try in this case, a step for some real cause as we dont know which step will actually make the difference. Sataymev Jayate if brought tears , but give a food of thought to common man, this problem has much wider and much worst impact on our current and future society.

Yes, I agree. Sometimes it takes star power to spread an idea across the larger audience base, and I'm sure SJ will achieve just that. But I guess having been a regular viewer of CP, it's hard for me to connect with a star interviewing people in a lavishly-built studio. I'm sure though, that this show will bring certain 'taboo' issues, so to speak, onto the front table.

P.S - You can call me Neeta 😊

Pallo: You should catch up on NBT...high point coming up...lol

Jzee: You had points of contention? What were those?

Frankly for me the INTENTION is GENUINE...and not just done for the sake of TALKING...and I agree...an IDEA is more powerful than anything cuz it has the ability to change the world when it has a million jump on board and start BELIEVING in that idea, that THINKING, that SOCH...it all begins there...that is the root of change in any form.

All of the great leaders in history who've brought about change have all started with that only...the power of their thinking, their BELIEF which ultimately drive you to action as well...Aamir's concept is about making us realize that we are not individuals isolated in our little bubbles...everything that is happening in the country sooner or later grows to the point of affecting everyone...he's shown how society can literally start breaking down with an issue that started on such a small scale and has now spread to the point of leading to exploitation of poor women being sold to get married to all these aged bachelors who can't find brides, leading to things like increase in cases of eve-teasing, gang-rapes in the northern parts of the country BECAUSE the ratio is so skewed...we don't think of these things when we just basically think of the issue of female infanticide...but the way it was brought together in this episode makes you realize how the ultimate breakdown of society occurs.

I haven't watched Crime Patrol honestly but I don't really see the parallels with SMJ cuz SMJ doesn't require a script in the same sense...Crime Patrol appears to be showing re-enactments about a lot of crimes that have happened and creating awareness in that sense.

But SMJ is taking each topic as a whole and analyzing it from EVERY angle...yes, Aamir's star power and the outreach of this show is a huge plus point for it no doubt but to me when I watch this show, it's not the "star power" that hits me strong but the way the entire issue is PRESENTED...

Ultimately the goal is similar...and that is to create awareness...and if it's done in a genuine manner, then the more shows on it the better.

Star power is a big plus point to bringing awareness to common public. Though some of these issues have been around for some time now, and such awareness programs have been build and deployed to rural India and China. My real question is how many people really make a difference after watching the show? How do you change the thought process of women and men of India, this is really a call out to humanity...

Aarya I just jumped in to reply. Hopefully not rude. Most of these issues are quite old and definitely has been covered before But that will not take genuineness of this effort atleast.

Just for example in Jessica Lal case every proof got distorted in lower court more than 20 live witness vanished or changed their testimony in end. All accused were acquitted because of lack of evidence. Candle march in delhi, chandigarh SMS revolution T shirts literally create a strong mass movement which not only led to justice after 11 years of her death. As far as I remember that march was considered very filmy then and sort Range basnati style was mocked by those were somewhere involved with strong polticial and business connection. Manu sharma father had to resign after that too.

Another strong proof was mass revolution India had during reservation,. which was actually one movie inspired. Noone in India thought that student would stand against reservation but they did..for long AIIMS IIT..most of all institute student went on hunger strike agsint reservation…Those who were part of it know it was hugely Rang de basanti inspired movement….It was actually considered moive inspired movement I know It failed…I agreed but they tried…

So if aamir said do mail president agsint that case 7 year old if 100s and million mail.write petiiton it might work..it might not...but its worth give a try...

LIke in USA there was a law againt transvaginal sonogrpahy in Virgina recently which was about was about to be become law and was stopped because of petitions and extreme movement agaisnt it…

We cant say it will never work, we just have to try, it might not work it might but we will never regret we never tired for some good cause.

And I strongly believe in one theory if water can make mark on rock, constant attempts can do anything. A small attempt like these does make difference, they had in past, they might in future
