JZ! 🤗 Missed you yaar, how've you been...I just watched this with my parents and I was so excited to see a post by you on this forum! lol
And Anu, et tu! Everyone's here man! 🤗
And wow you guys are like all NBT-fied in your sigboxes too. lol This is making me want to catch up ASAP.
Anyways, I totally agree with you guys. I was also very overwhelmed watching this episode. Wow, hat's off to Amir for conceiving and bringing about a project like this.
JZ, I think the word you used- TEDIOUS is SO the word. Thinking about these kinds of issues has just become tedious for all of us now. I think we've become impassive to these issues now. It has become so common and so accepted. That awareness, that emotional connect, that sensitivity, that seriousness and the reality of these issues has become blurred somewhat.
So in undertaking a project such as this one, I think a major accomplishment for Amir is just getting people CONNECTED again. Like Anu, said, just making us FEEL and THINK about these issues is a feat in itself. In bringing about dinner table discussions, online blogs/discussions/vidoes/opinions...Amir might just be able to reach out to the public and increase the awareness required to bring about some kind of a change. Because it all starts with an inspiration. A thought in the right direction...
What I liked was that broader view. The problem isn't just that this is happening...the problem is that desensitization. Becoming so detached to our society...becoming disconnected with what makes us human. I liked how Amir had that insight and perspective to make people CARE on some level. There has to be SOMETHING in that episode that each one of us can take away with us. Either a story, a stat, a voice, a visual, an emotion, an inspiration, a song, a tune, or even just a word. Whatever makes you care, because this episode had some food for thought to appeal to everyone I would like to think.
And the point wasn't even so much as educating I think. Though that's very important as well. Because I think, that what this episode portrayed wasn't exactly brand new information either. But the way it was presented, it just makes you reflect...even if it evokes no other emotion from you. This kind of a show makes you reflect on the kind of society you live in, and it makes you reflect within yourself too. It's the question of WHY should I care about this. That's what Amir reflects upon in his opening monologue too. It's that thought of wanting to reach out in way that inspires people, makes people care enough to cause a change. Or atleast a reflection of some sort.
I loved that story of that Punjabi village and the change they've brought upon. So inspiring. I just really liked the range of emotions portrayed in this episode. From extremes like human cannibalistic behaviour, emotional blackmail and manipulation, corruption, and an untrustworthy healthcare system...to inspiration, hope, activism, realistic results and actual change happening, encouragement and scope for creativity. Even the ironic humourous touch with all those 35 plus bachelors. You know, it just makes you reflect on SO many levels...
The ridiculousness of it all in some way...how have WE created such a system. A vicious cycle where feminine empowerment refuses to happen. The idea itself of not wanting a female child because of the challenges our society puts out for women. The rape cases, the objectifying, the trade, the fear of it all. But then, these practices that keep this cycle going. A girl child isn't preferred, but then this preference itself is what is feeding this cycle to continue on. Once again, I liked the bigger picture shown in this episode. This isn't just an isolated issue. It's an entire faulty system that WE have created. And so, it is US only that can bring about a change. It's about providing that broader wisdom to inspire us enough to care just a little bit.
And that song in the end was just a brilliant touch. Once again, a final attempt at getting through to everyone. And those visuals of all those girls during the song. It was super touching. What an amazing piece of music, and the lyrics. I love that singer too, Swanand Kirkire. I think he has such a soulful voice. Just the visual this song provided. Like Anu said, of this free bird. A tiny bird that may seem unimportant and insignificant, but it has SUCH a potential to touch your life in a beautiful way. A potential to prosper your home, your soil, your roots, your life. Just a subtle and a humble request to let the bird fly. A small attempt to reconnect ourselves to that humanity.
Like you said JZ, I don't have the heart to criticize this show either...just because of that idea. The fact that a superstar like Amir undertook a project like this and moved me in this way. Made me think, and made me FEEL so much. I think that's the point of a medium like television after all. 👍🏼
