Super super brilliant post that I could not stop myself just mentioning here that I loved this so so much. I have nothing else to say as you all have said everything so well. I just wanted to say--" standing FRICKING ovation "" in ivy style. I do also wish to know answers to shana's question--maybe sometime you will indulge us--Smarthji.

So Great to see a post from you ... and What a Post ... Wowww... 👏👏

So today's SAMUD scene finally goaded you into making a post again ... ...

and are we Glad ... You Bet ... 😊

Thank you soo much for such a Wonderful post ... for a really Wonderful scene ...

Really glad that today we got to see a scene where the Writers gave what we had always known ...

but giving words to those feelings ... making a loud ... clear and Unambiguous declaration... that SAMUD are one ...and that " No One can seperate them ... Not even they themselves " ... I t was soo BEAUTIFUL to hear... to see ...to feel...

How Beautiful it was to hear the word " EHSAAS ..." again after ages ... and then the SAMUD Song ... Aahhh ... BLISS ... ❤️

and the Best part ... today it was Saras who made it clear to a very Emotionally Battered and Vulnerable Kumud ,... that " The EHSAAS " was Imprinted on their Hearts and Souls ...and nobody ... not even the two of them can do anything about it now ...

Hope this Unwavering Declaration ...this Committment ends all the fears in Kumud's mind forever ... and today's declaration gives both of them the Strength to fight all the demons they are going to face ... be it Kallika or Pramad or anybody else ...

and also Hope that today's dialogues are remembered by the CVs throughout the running of the Show ... and they should remain the CORE of this Show always ...

Must also Appreciate how Fantastic were GAUTAM and Jenny ... Absolutely Smashing ... 👏👏

The Scene was Totally OUTSTANDING ... so Intense ... Full of Love... and Pain ... that they gave us i think undoubtedly the Best SAMUD scene till date ...

Am soo Glad that today's scene is in some ways a fulfillment of your wishes too ... regarding what the Hero Saraswatichandra should have been like ...in the original Book ... 😊

and you really think that the Dialogues of Saras have been taken from the original ... The Writers have taken the trouble to read the original and have decided to use the lines from there ...

If this is True ... then i can only say that it is Good News ... Very Good NEWS ... 😊

Thank you once again , my Friend for this Lovely , Eloquent , Heartfelt post ... 👏

Thanks again Twila for your generous appreciation...😳

@ green:
This is a relationship between common readers and this work in nutshell. A brilliant work needlessly dabbed tragic in just last few pages. Of course, scholars, 'discerning readers' and puritans are defending it with lofty explanations and 'understanding' - foremost being 'a realistic' contemperanous' retreat- it's failing miserably the high ideals set in its own course! But yes, as gathered from a few critiques I came across, or by reactions of some actual readers, this is what it should have been like. Hero not wilfully leaving her in lurch. For few minutes they might have stumbled upon it, it seems almost serendipity.😲

@ red,
Well, my friend, of course not verbatim, but some close resemblance...

Samarth bai, good to catch up with you after long long time. To hear from you that the makers have read the source and introduced lines close to original is indeed the best news I have heard about SC in ages. I am still watching this show only for Saraswathichandra, his character is woven in such beautiful layers..each time one is peeled we want to see more in depth. A hero indeed and how much I praise GR for bringing this character n screen is less. He seems to challenge his acting and tries to excel himself everytime. I am an ardent fan of him now and though I miss some episodes I will see through to its end only for him. A pleasure to read a post from you after so long. Will check out today's episode since it has tempted even you to make a post :)

Do check it Kaadal. But be warned. Only a few moments. It is followed by its trademark crap. Kalika, Pramad, meera, radha, two three kanhas, bottles, us miracles etc...🤢

I specially loved this :

Respect him and his happiness. Empathise with his pain too, your sister is not an only person culpable of pain. He too is.

I think this week has been about this line essentially. Saras, who has stood beside Kumud, her wall to lean on, has been trying to show how much he is going through.

Throughout the kusum marriage , he has been hidden like a guilty secret, and has had to see pramaad being given the place of Jamai raj, which is ethically, emotionally , morally his.

I just hope Kumud has allowed this to seep into her conscious thought , and she does think of him too in the turmoil of the coming few days .

As for Saras : he has confessed to Vidya and Mai in the hospital that Saras has no vajood without Kumud, he has asked for Kumud's hand

I hope they too remember this in the coming week.

@ Bolded,
That's so wistful, Arshi, we almost know they are not going to allow this, I fear. And wish I would be proven wrong. Most ironical fall out of this plot is a continued 'seesaw' gyration on these two. As he ascends, she sinks.
@ underlined,
And what struck me today is consistent expounding of this theme. Consistent with source narrative too. As noted earlier, he is now exposed to a same battle of 'consciousness' v/s conscience- if the other marriage gets enforced.

Smrth ji, Thank you so much for writing this post! It is heartening to learn about source-adaptation overlap especially for today's episode and your highly appreciative post on hallmarks of a hero😊

Your post gives me an opportunity to share about my little 'research' I've been doing on the character development of the eponymous hero of the show. Please note that I'm only faintly aware of the incidents in the book and all the forthcoming 'notes' have been made by carefully correlating personal anecdotes from friends and 'influencing' acquaintances with what's shown on screen.
In all this pedestrian story telling expedition, I am so pleasantly surprised to see the characterization of Saraswatichandra 'realistic' in terms of history as a child deprived of parental guidance throughout the entirety of his childhood. Losing a parent, especially the mother, and witnessing her commit suicide at a tender age, this character has gone through quite a devastating spell of agony even before facing the real world. The psychological effects of such an incident though may vary across individuals based on a number of variables, can be either detrimental overtly or extremely productive.

Some of the positives we have seen in Saraswatichandra are:
Feeling a tremendous sense of responsibility and accountability for everything, even situations beyond one's control.Driven to over-achievement. Asking and seeking answers to fundamental questions such as purpose and meaning of life, relationships, possessions, higher power, greater good, etc. Living a deeply felt life filled with meaningful actions and interactions, having experienced the fragility of life.Developing empathy and compassion towards the suffering of fellow humans.Independent thinking and confidence. This comes from limited parental guidance and the pressure to be 'self made'.Resilience.

Negatives of such a tragic incident include:
The sense of loss of an unconditional love that typically falls in parental domain. I don't think any other relationship is as selfless (or at least starts out that way) as a parent/child relationship.Shying away from forming emotionally intimate relationships for fear of loss.Tendency to assert control/dominate to compensate for a deeply felt loss.Exacerbation of inherent behavioral traits.

In the spirit of silver lining, only a person who's understood pain, experienced it, reflected on it, relived it in his head and integrated the pain as a part of his psyche can truly understand and 'empathize' with the 'pain' of others which Saras has efficiently fostered. That's exactly why he can 'understand' in its truest sense of the word, the pain Kumud is going through and take measures diligently to support her through her turmoil.

This is where the mindset of the lead characters come into play; Saras is the epitome of a man with a 'growth' mindset[1], the ability to 'see past adversities' and come out strongly. In one of those episodes from the glorious days of SC, he asks Kumud, "Do you see the pain in my eyes for causing you the pain of your life? Will you be able to forgive me?" to which she has no answer. That's when he replies,"I have learnt to live with pain, endure it and come out victorious too. You shall learn soon."

It is at this aspect that Kumud stagnates and he fills in for her, the dreamer-realist combination just being so pristine and magical. Although Kumud at times has faced the wrath of TRP maniacs, one must appreciate the ever changing writers for maintaining the consistency of the hero of the show. Kudos to the creative team.

This is a wonderful feedback Shrija👏 I am looking forward to interact more extensively Shrija.- Ma'm Force.
Will get back to this in detail, in the evening. Have to deal earning hours early today...see ya.
P.s. Thanks for the share. Will check it out

Shrija,
Your post spurs me on several levels. Relationships between, 1) Hero and Heroine in a fiction 2) Source and Adaption 3) Writer and his creation and through it, with his readers. And with further extension of 3):- 3a)cinematic adaption and its viewers, which by default also incorporates effect of no.2)
It would be long winding to write about all, myriad of thoughts it evokes, but speaking saliently in context of your feedback;
First I will have to start with 2). This particular adaption has several 'course changing' tweaks which alter base fabric considerably. 'Saras' a hero as presented here is most important change. The adaption is needed to present a palatable hero confirming contemporaneity. The source hero is aggrandisement of a dubious 'social epitome' which fails its own claim (by author)- In honesty of the intent (social message). The result is a largely loathed hero, whom no reader (except more 'discerning' scholars perhaps) identify with or sympathise him. Ask a reader, and mostly you will have answer, "oh that effeminate idealist? A 'great' creation. Is he?" He fails twice at critical modes and both concerned his avowed point of veneration. Second failure is even harder to accept given the circumstances and his status as 'hero'. (no more this 'social message'/or contemporary context hoax, I would end up filling reams here)
Coming back to this adaption, the most important tweak is his 'orphanhood' exacerbated by mother's suicide. The effect is transformative and creatives are clever in innovation. All the traits you have noted or analysed for 'Saras' could be traced to this ploy and it is holding beautifully (personally, am not minding this 'adaption'). It's pertinent to note here, although book mother- Chandra Laxmi- died early, it was a natural death and SC in book is no way deprived or 'injusticed' as his Grand mother Ishwarkor is much more than a match to Gumaan and her shenanigans. LN also remained a doting father. Ishwarkor died only after securing his betrothal to Kumud, daughter of a powerful Diwan VC. By then he was mature and well developed personally.
This leads us to 'seesaw' diminishing of heroine Kumud in this adaption. Shrija, if anything held consistent in book, it is Kumud. Mind you, she is not even self effacing sacrificial in the end. She is compelled to 'solve' a bind, which 'hero' failed to rise upto. Too complicated? Suffice is to say, if G.m.t. would be truly lauded for something 'substance' in charecters, it's Kumud and Guniyal in that order. The concept of such a sharp, 'equal' in every sense, womanhood in his time was true achievement of his work in my opinion. For this, G.M.T's Kumud needs to be described more thoroughly which is not a scope here perhaps. Suffice is to say, while entire state appears hostile to book SC, all are appreciative and partial to her as character. In form of equality, even a 'role model' for her generation (circa early 20th century). Again, her last sacrifice is NOT a reason for this. It was 'forced' on her. At stake were VC's prime ministership (massacre of Guniyal in the end) and impedance to social status of SC (if he marries her). She actually wanted to 'remarry' initially, by the way!
Now look at the adapted Kumud, proportionately diminished and worked out! Exacerbated by behind the scene hubbub and viewers' consequent animosity! Plus tvt compulsion etc. 3a) becomes most important operative here by default.
As such, perhaps it is facile of me to induce such discussion here. But it stems from certain unaddressed dissatisfactions falling under 3). It spurs me (personally speaking) in commending a scene which lasted hardly four or five minutes. It has brought about a more honest representation of characters as they were intended, almost serendipitously. The 'intensity', 'voyeuristic kick' is not a real driver IMO. And back to cynicism in this mediocre product is almost certain...

Huh, it still ended up being 'long winding'.😆

Smrth, thanks for sharing worthy snippets from the book. All I can say is being a part gujju myself, I am ashamed to not to have learnt the language to actually try to read books. But sir, this Kumud (after watching today's episode) is NOT that Kumud. I'm sorry😡😡
Loads to write...will be back in the evening or weekend (if you still plan to visit the forum that is😕)

That book is an amazing read! 😃

If Mr SC acquiesces to his clingy GF's fake appeals, I'll edit my post and never ever look back at SC again🤢
