Agree with you. Family's honour is held too high in Indian society, and a girl is burdened with the duty to protect it.
>>> I had seen the movie and felt sad for the woman ( Nutan) in the story. My reason to watch the show was Gautam Rode's superb acting skills ( not that others are not good) and to see if the makers will be able to adapt to the changing role of women in India. The manner in which Kumud was married off, was so weird for the current time. I thought these days family's pay more attention to the family and especially the guy, before giving away their daughter.
But should it be at the cost of a woman's sacrifice of her esteem and dignity. Kumud's parents made no inquiry of Buddhian's family. Just the name of a big shot in politics was sufficient!! What about the Buddhian family who very well know the son's weaknesses -- wine and women? Is it the duty of the daughter-in-law to reform him and protect their image in society. Sounds so irrational...!!! This show pins down woman to a silent, self-effacing character in the 21st century. It is truly "INCREDIBLE
INDIA".
>>> Completely agree, wedding I managed to put up with quite some difficulty. However, the current track, has really confused me. I wonder, if it is an adaptation of the original story, or the original story itself.
Whose self-respect is Kumud thinking of? Her in-laws who are responsible for ruining her life? Her family where two more girls are to be married off?
>>> what example is she setting? She expects her sisters to do the same. Wonder where such shows are leading the Indian women to. I am not saying that she just dump her hubby, but she has to make attempts to put an end to his nonsense.
What about Dugba? She was bold to break her marriage with that crook and return home with her daughter. Why then Kumud is torturing herself and wallowing in self-pity? And we lose regard for this character, though we highly appreciate JW's acting skills.
> Thanks for getting our attention to Dukhba, In this regard she earns my respect. At this time, I feel like I really don't know Kumud at all. I would have liked if the makers had managed to sow some seeds of change.
Finally, thank you for posting your views. I feel so good when I see the forum members concerned about certain issues being shown, and are willing to respond.
