@smrth and Kaadal,

Now when I read about the first vision of Kumud and Saras, I feel awed. I don't think I had felt this so strongly when I started watching this show, I think I had a chip on my shoulder then and was quite in the role of the snooty critic!

Thanks for taking me back to the first meeting with Saras and Kumud!

And though I loved all the in depth discussion today

I declare all of us to be completely mad

Kaadal I too had some similar impressions that you described. I have elaborated Kumud's shloka in my note. The link of that post I have shared in P5 post..even Payal and tinkles ( kamarbandh) motif I had noticed and savoured. That was their first interpersonal bonding moment from
Saras's side. This also I had tried to pen down in a subsequent post, 'Enchanted..". Wish you people were there that time, or I might have known them then.😊

Samarth, I don't feel the sloka is a coincidence. I remember browsing at that time and coming across an article that stated this sloka is used in Vedic marriage ceremonies. I vaguely rememeber it but the gist of it was that when we marry initially we are able to see the love and care in our partner and appreciate it but as time passes we start to see their faults even though we love them. It was said behind all the conflicts we need to understand that these conflicts are meant to purify our existence. The Vedic principle states that the purpose of a partner is to purify our hearts and existence, so if we go by this rule as well, SC is meant to be a show between Saras and Kumud where Kumud really enters his life to purify him and he submits to her his whole existence. Any better sloka than this ?

Need to tell you this. My perspective is different. I have taken its import as contemplative rumination for the self of Saras from the early age when he must have started on the path. As part of early fortification ( against pains and fears), the focus is on purification of the self rather then externals. But In the process, won't the externals, which are related in deed and interactions, themselves are wished well and forgiven for their trespasses against the self? As one is surrendering self to the power of Devine (Krishna) the well being of those too are wished well through the same Devine power...That was how I had accounted his complex equanimous behaviour towards his oppressors. I might be wrong, but 'marriage' ( even by Cvs' intent) could not be linked there.1) the scene was supposedly a daily prayer chant for him. For a confirmed 'renouncer', this would be last idea in his praying mind. 2) At second scene, he was again showed chanting some mantra and achanana. Again he was Firm 'rejector' then. Marriage was not on agenda...So if we dissociate this link, then coincidence again comes in fore, unless we consider above mentioned explanation. ( and I'd live to believe it being deliberate than a coincidence!)...
quite a long discussion for merely two or three minutes combined in two scenes. Right? Let us rest. For now I am convinced of my inability to explain to both of you ( what I am trying to say)...so arshicritic and Kadaal please overlook me on the topic.😆

Samarth, I agree with you as it being a contemplative rumination for the self of Saras. When I meant the focus may be on self purification, it was only because "it was introduction of Saras, him as a person". Yes you are right, as one is surrendering self the well being of anyone involved with him are wished as well but I felt this was like an introduction of any person saying "This is Mr.Saras. He is a good man", nothing more than that. The process of him becoming pure will go on till the end.
My comment on this sloka based on Vedic marriage was purely my POV. As a viewer currently watching the evolution of their love story and reading that sloka used in marriage context, couldn't resist but think it was the right sloka for Saras whose life seems to follow the exact path. Saras nor the CV's would have the idea of marriage linked there nor on the second scene. It was purely my feeling seeing the love track between Samud. I felt it non coincidental for reasons that it was introduction of Saras as a person, a reflection of his nature and for the fact that SLB wouldn't have started his debute project without some ground work, atleast not in the first few episodes.
Sorry I just couldn't shut my thoughts. Hope you don't mind. I rest my case here. RIP 😉

@smrth, Kaadal,

Let me put my understanding of your discussion in a simple way. And please tell me if I have got it right.

So Saras has taken the path of self purification through prayer, and in his prayers are included are those around him, including Guman

Am I right in understanding that?

His attitude to Guman has been proper and correct, but disticlty cold,

and i remember one line in one of the episodes which was that its better to be quiet, else she will do drama,

This actually shows disrespect and contempt, and his behavior is correct only for propriety's sake than out of any real respect for Guman!

Yesterday we saw genuine love for Danny, his love for his father is also immense

So, that leaves only Guman that Saras does not like, do you think she is anywhere in his thoughts or prayers?

Does he not hold a lot of negativity in his heart against her?

When he spoke out against VC, he regretted it and apologized, humbly and sincerely

Yet the outburst against Guman has evoked no remorse in him. Was it due to TRP concerns, or he does like all the Desais, holds her in contempt?

Then she is not in his universe of self, and is it a dilution of his character?
