A question for the weekend

The original novel Saraswatichandra was written in 4 volumes, which were released over a period of 15 years, from 1887 to 1902.

The novel was set in the 19th century

The movie Saraswatichandra, was made on 1968, was based on the book, and was a "contemporary" adaptation.

The show, SC, is also a present day adaptation.

My question is, has the 'modernisation' confused the CVs?

Are they suffering from "old era story" syndrome?

Let me state a few points -

1. The Gau Hatya track was relevant in an older setting,

maybe even in 1968, the movie setting,

but did not match the current rural scenario

2. VCs immensely emotional outburst - too melodramatic for a present day sensibility,

it would have been acceptable in a period drama,

today's character are expected to show " mellowed " drama and not melodrama

3. Modern village, ancient village flip flop - CVs frequent lapses between modern village ancient

village
cellphones - everyone has them apparently, but they are conveniently forgotten about

Cars - ditto

Electricity - is there, yet Kumud and Gun are often roaming around with lanterns at night

Bus connectivity - Only one bus from the sheher for people, yet cake and balloons and

yellow roses have an instant delivery

4. The dori flip flop - I know a lot has been said about the backless cholis,

but it is relevant here, so again I shall raise it.

Ancient village - girl cannot be seen outside with boy, major izzat ka sawaal,

Modern village - our heroines dress sense - next century!

What is the problem here ?

Are the CVs confused about whether it is a present day story or a period drama?

Are they really not aware of present day rural India so anything goes?

Are the Indian villages so complex and mix of new and old, that anything goes?

Just poor writing and inadequate attention to details?

Lovely Post. I also had many more above questions. Glad to see a post on this. May be Cv's are confused because of the TRP pressure. They are ignoring all the other characters and logistics and concentrating only on Samud romance to improve the TRP's.

I love your post. A lot of these things have been confusing me too. The CVs really can't decide what kind of an era and ideology they want to stick to.

Those are a lot of questions Arshi !!! 😲😆 I will answer the ones that is easy to address 😃 About the electricity.. they carry the lanterns mostly when the power supply fails, assuming in villages they don't have inverter connections, emergency lights or generators.. have they used the lanterns other than that? maybe ..if yes then its just the SLB touch.. he visualises his canvas for telling a story in a specific way and its usually very aesthetically pleasing to the eyes..so no complains :))

About the bus connectivity..well LN has money to speed deliver whatever he wants..LOL
all these details don't hamper the narration for me..To create drama one has to deviate from the logics sometimes.. happens all the time..everywhere actually..

About the dress sense, roaming around with a guy in the village..well... firstly Kumud doesnt fit into the bill of a conventional village girl in any sense...she is progressive, confident , educated and bold that reflects in her personality..intimidating to a large extent.. Not saying that roaming around with a guy is progressive or anything..but she hasn't been doing anything inappropriate ..so cant point finger..

I think its anyway tough to keep the right balance between a yesteryear's classic drama and a contemporary love story.. In that sense they have been doing pretty well so far.. I don't find anything completely unbelievable or difficult to relate to, honestly, until I come here and read some posts.. I connect only with the emotions..as long as that's working everything else is fine and so far I am very happy on that front.. I don't enjoy or rather don't find myself capable of going too much into technical details...honestly it kinda spoils the fun of watching the show..

And yes I am superrr excited for the wedding.. ! :D Possibilities of Saras Kumud romance are endless.. this can be a great TRP booster week for the show..*fingers crossed*

Lol most of this true but I feel like most Hindi soaps have bloopers like these. As far as VC's outburst goes, well that would be a bit too melodramatic in any time period really, it was mostly just used an excuse to have a fight scene. As for the Gau Hatya track, I totally agree that it didn't make sense in modern times, but some people on the forum said it still happens in rural villages, soo.. 😕 Honestly I don't really care if there are some weird points in the story, as long as we get Samud scenes. 😆

I think they're trying to make it a fusion of old and modern!😆
But walking with lantern makes sense sometimes when Kumud at night because when everyone's sleeping, lights are off. But one thing, I saw Dugba turning off her lantern before sleeping... doesn't she have electricity in her room? Or maybe it was a scene during power-cut! 😕

Brilliant post...👏👏👏

SLB himself is confused about what should be shown..
He has not accepted one view. On one side, he has shown its Kumud who brought internet to the village and there is no electricity at night...😆

Sanskaars and maryada matters are given utmost importance but still, the daughter of the house sneaks into the room of the boy at midnight...👎🏼

DB is shown dual-minded.
She has a problem if Kumari keeps her hair open but she has no problem if Kumud wears backless blouse and transparent chunni

Dear SLBji...Please show something that is complete...
