Thank you @arshicritic. Sorry to address you by your profile name since I don't know how to address you. My responses to your questions are in blue.
Here are my disappointments with the epi and the show:
1. the family sets up a shagun ceremony without even asking the prospective bride and groom once in a sit down heart to heart talk - too cliched - done to death in hundreds of shows.
I remember Kumud wanting to talk to Saras over the video chat and VC took all of them away and left her to have a private conversation with him. He is probably under the impression that they had talked it out during the video chat and there were several occasions where Kumud and Saras were alone. He must have assumed that they both probably had a heart to heart conversation while Kumud was hanging out with him and helping him out with the whole prayaschit thing for the Gau Hatya which BTW was clearly OTT cause since when people get arrested for killing an animal when there are more violent crimes and the criminals who commit those go scot free.
2. the dad who claims to have been her friend - never once in all these days - asked her about how she feels about this man she has to go off and spend her life with -
That is a very valid question and I feel that he probably assumed that she liked Saras considering the interest and delight she had while saving him from the eyes of the villagers and could not let him suffer alone when they had asked him to do the Prayaschit. She probably was being righteous and doing the right thing by not letting him take the blame for Yash but for her to go out of her way must have made VC think on the lines that she is indeed doing her duty as someone who is line to become a wife of a man who is wrongly accused. Nonetheless, he should have asked her.
his friend sent the rishta, she made a token protest, but she never really was given a choice was she - the pressure of expectation from dad was too high - psuedo independence - she was always expected to toe the line here - Yep, that is the price you pay for being an ideal daughter I guess. Now my fear is as per the novel, (which my aunt has read) just to make sure that rest of the girls get proposals in their future and shut the villagers mouth they might force her to marry someone who may not really be the right fit for her and she might agree to that proposal.
3. guniyal - often later in the night husbands and wives talk about the day, all that's important, all that is bothering them, about their children - never happened here?- not convincing
I agree. She has no excuse. She had plenty of time even the other day when she was giving him milk he explicitly asked her if she has something on her mind and she just denied. That was a golden opportunity she let it miss.
4. Kumud - she really stumped me - why hide it from her dad? Just her ego? fear for his health? - not convincing
I am thinking that she never thought that Saras would stand up to her challenge and would actually show up. He did and after seeing him she wanted him to be the bad guy who broke the alliance and admits that as well. She did not want to be the bad news bearer but now it backfired on her big time since VC does not care about Saras because he is not his son but he cares about her as she is his pride and feels completely let down by her.
why on earth did none of these people in all these days have any heart to heart one to one with each other? I think it's because of the Yash and his culprit act of killing the cow and letting the blame to be put on Saras and Yash's mom threatening to commit suicide and finally Saras getting arrested and Guman showing up unannounced and threatening to call LN. They all were probably flabbergasted by the horrific turn of events and before they could catch their breath Guman played her evil game again.
