Why a Negative Character??

I was wondering over this since a long time... Is it necessary to have a negative character in serials to move a story..??

I mean seriously, i already hate Guman when i still have to see her real evilness...
Infact she has got some property papers to ruin saras n kumud's happiness... :(

If there is no negative character how will we know who is a positive character

Life includes some ups and some downs, some people are good by nature and some not so good

If all human were good earth would have become heaven to live

couldn't agree more. if we are hating guman so much that then she must be portraying her role very well. the major plot in the story is the family feud probably caused by guman which causes SK separation.

If there is no negative character then how the story will move.Everything will go smoothly and all will be happy .There should be MU,problem should be created .masala should be added...then only the show will have some interst to see.

I don't know who is playing as negative character because I always skip other people's scenes except Saras and kumud

I don't know, I agree with the poster. The negative characters in our TV shows are so contrived sometimes that it makes it very unbelievable.

I agree that people are not all good, so it's important to show that there are bad/grey ppl out there, but maybe the focus should now shift to how circumstances can make people act a certain way. Or, as in SC - showing someone like Kumud who is not a bad person, but in the circumstances isn't exactly likeable because of how she is treating Saras...

I hate it when desi serials have negative characters with no backstory...like, why is Guman really this bad? Or her sister for that matter? Or badi bhabhi?

Some ppl are just instigators, I guess, and they don't like others to be happy if they themselves are not.

I'm usually a silent reader but the original post interested me and this reply too. I agree- I think whilst it is fine and perhaps even necessary to have negative characters in each story (as they exist in life too) our shows always tend to take them to an extreme without a back story, which is what you are referring to I think? If there was some background to why people are the way they are and grey explored a bit more, whilst that character would still be negative, it makes them more human rather than some sort of monster figure. I am quite hopeful that whilst we shall Guman as being "evil" we might get some exploring of what drives her as we go on. I say this judging by how Saras's character for example is being developed and even Dukhba's.

What drives these characters to be neagative is circumstances

Guman

- Her background where she is a dancer who used to dance to please men for a living. No one goes into such a profession willingly. Either her mother was also in same profession or cicumstance forced her to do that.

- VC family treating her without respect because of her background

- She is not Saras mother hence she wants full property in her son danny's name. Step mothers(not all) feel no affection for prev wife children as they are not born from their womb. Guman feels threatened by Saras prescence and the fact that he may marry and have heirs to her husband property. She also may be feeling why her husband is wasting money on Saras upbringing she wants all money for herself and danny.

Dukhbaa

- Dukhbaa has old grudge against LNV why he never married her? and Guman why she snatched LNV from her?

- She is also scared that saras may do to kumud what LNV did to her

Hence she treats saras with disrespect and mistrust because he is LNV and Guman's son

a story can move with everyone being a positive character... and star plus has set many examples...

and i am talking about serials not life😛
