Selling the rights to slb does not take away his right to criticize. If the serial fell short of his expectations he has a right to feel indignant. And nothing stops him from expressing it in a blog or article..just like we express our views.

They shud have put their points o n contract while selling their rights..they had their chance to make it clear to slb abt how they want their novel to b projected on tv..what was he doing at that time?? Now as the serial has started he is here criticising some1s hard work..if he has problem he shud discuss it with slb

SLBs target canno unfortunately not be the villages where forget television even electricity is not available! So he can't show his hero like what the book potrays, same with Kumud. Who will buy the fact that widow remarriage can't be allowed, bride doesnt see the groom before marriage, etc. And if no one buys that how would the show continue. And if the show is shut, how would he fulfil his dream of making a modernised SaraswatiChandra?

Some points were no doubt right.. However, I guess SLB should get the credit of trying. He brought back a forgotten book! He dreamt of making it reachable to modern society! Yes the romance is more and yes I personally feel the track is deviating.. But that is what TV viewers buy.

And moreover the show has nust started.. We need to give it time!

i agree with that article person the book is about many things
1) Self discovery of a person
2) How society in those times treat good people like Saras(including family)
3) A person's progressive thoughts like Saras wants a model village where rich serve and share with poor
4) A son sacrificing his happiness for family
But these ideals are not relevant in today's money minded cut throat competition days. Today only money and success at any cost matters. How else will you explain people respecting rich people who have made money by dubious means cheating others?
In 18th century atleast to some extent a persons good nature counted more than his money and status not in 21st century. In today's fast paced world TV aduience is not intersted in seeing an ideal hero who talks of right and wrong and improving others life. Hence SLB knows that and is giving love angle to the story so that he can retain audience interest. If SLB goes by that book TRPs will fall drastically. SLB should disguise messages that Saras wanted to give to society around a love story.

I haven't the read the actual novel but it seems like a beautiful read. I agree that SLB can't truly adapt this to a soap opera. The TRPs are too important. Indeed he has to keep the new generation engrossed. Just translating something into a different language often times leaves an emptiness in writing because the words become so different and suddenly they don't mean quite the same thing anymore. But then again, anything that will be on the silver screen has to be aesthetically pleasing, especially if its SLB's work.

But if SLB has the right to readapt this, then he could be able to take all the criticism he gets too. I do agree with the point of reducing this to a mere love story. There's a lot more depth to it that SLB hasn't touched so far and I'm not sure if he will be able to. But kudos for him for digging up this classic and having the guts to attempt the impossible!
