Finishing the song Kabir kept his guitar aside and sat down on the floor of his balcony hiding his face under his arms, he began crying out loud. He has sung this song Time and again and he always sung it beautifully but he never felt the words the way he did today being forced to realize that he is a "no one" in Rachna's life by a total stranger. He is a mere friend and will always remain so or will he? It definitely was a total eclipse of his heart. But the problem was even singing the song, expressing his pain through it brought back memories of Rachna.

"A TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEART"
As Kabir finished singing this song, Rachna said, "That's it! You see how beautifully you sing "the total eclipse of the heart"? You feel the words when you sing it hai na?"
"Haan Rachna par usse kya hota hai. It's a song but..." [Yeah Rachna but it doen't matter. It's a song but...]
"But, but kuch nahi. The way you feel the pain while you sing this song, ushi tarah you need to feel what you say when you are delivering the dialogues!"
"Achha? Ok.. but I can't feel the emotions re! Matlab waise hi mujhe acting nahi aati uparse yeh sab dialo..." [Really? Ok.. but I can't feel the emotions re! Means I already can't act and than all these dialo..]
"Arre tu try to kar..." [Arre atleast try..]
"Hmmm..." saying this Kabir started reading from the piece of paper in his hand.
""Heer main tumse.. bohot..." [Heer I am... in...]
"Hahahaha!" laughed Rachna, "pagal tujhse itna sa dialogue bhi yaad nahi ho raha hai? Kal dekh lena, Ma'am tujhe kitna daant ne wali hai!" [Dumbo can't u even learn such a simple dialogue? Tomorrow U'll see how much ma'am's gonna scold you!]
"To kya karun main? Character hi aisa hai. Kya ghise pite dialogues hai yaar! Why do we have to do a play like this? Aur itne saare ladko me main hi mila tha kya Raanjha banne ke liye!" said Kabir
[So what can i do? Character is that way only. What kind of old and boring dialogues are these! Why do we have to do a play like this? And in so many boys she only found me to be this Raanjha!]
"Hahahaha!" Rachna laughed harder, "Actually tu sabse zyada handsome hain na hamare class me iss liye."[Actually u are the most handsome guy in our class na that's why.] And she laughed harder.
"haan woh to.. ek minute.. ruk ja.. tu meri khichayi kar rahi hai?" [Yeah that's.. 1 minute.. stop.. you are making fun of me?]
"hahahaha! Aur nahi to? Tujhe kya laga tu sachme saare ladko me sabse hansome hai?" Rachna hit Kabir on his head and started running
[hahahaha! What else? What u thought u really are the most handsome among all the boys?]
"Teri to..." Kabir followed her.
They both ran around Kabir's room and soon Kabir caught hold of Rachna's hand and twisted it.
"Aaah! Dukh raha hai Kabir jaane do!" [Aaah! It's hurting Kabir let me go!]
"Jaane duun! Acha thik hai.. jane deta huun pehle bol.. 'Kabir you are the most handsome guy in the world'" [Let u go! Ok i will but first say 'Kabir you are the most handsome guy in the world']
"Nahi bolungi" [No I won't]
Kabir twisted her hand harder, "nahi bolegi to main tujhe jane nahi dene wala. Bol" [If not I won't let you go. Say]
"Aaahhh... achha thik hai.. Kabir you are most handsome guy in the world. Ab jaane de." [Aaahhh... Okay alright...Kabir you are the most handsome guy in the world. Now let me go.]
"Ok. Yeh le chhod diya." [Ok. Here, left] He left her hand but the moment Kabir freed her she turned towards him with speed and said, "tu to Bandar hai Bandar, bada aaya Ranjha!" saying this she ran again but Kabir was very fast he caught hold of her duppatta but then Rachna slipped and fell on the bed. Kabir followed suit and fell on Rachna. There was a pause of a few moments as they looked into each other's eyes, before both Kabir and Rachna started laughing hard together.

(earlier in the afternoon of the Present Day)
"Kabir tum kahan bhagte phir rahe ho? Main tumhe dhund dhund ke pareshan ho rahi hun.Pure shopping mall me tumne meri aaj thodisi bhi madat nahi ki. Kya Kabir tum bhi na.."
"Woh maine socha ki tumhare saath to aj Rajat hai woh help kar dega to ishi liye main idhar udhar ghum raha tha! Aur dekh mujhe kya mila?" saying this Kabir handed over a small box to her.
[Actually I thought that today Rajat is with u he'd help, that's why i was wandering here and there! And look what I found!]
Rachna opened it and saw a small broach inside it! It had a golden base with peach and white coloured stone studded n it. Rachna's face immediately brightened up. "Tujhe yaad tha.. Thank you thank you thank you so much." [U remembered...Thank you thank you thank you so much.]
"Ab tumhe yehi chahiye tha na to main kaise bhool sakta huun? Ab jaise tu keh rehithi, yeh tere lehenge ke saath acha bhi lagegana. Hai na" said Kabir with a smile.
[Now u wanted this only na than how can I forget? Now as you always kept saying, it would look good with your lehnga as well right]
Rachna hugged him from the side. Rajat who was now approaching them with bags full of new clothes in his hands noticed this from a distance.
"To phir kya baatein ho rahi hain best friends ke beech?" asked Rajat. [So what talks are going on between best friends?]
"yeh dekho, Kabir just got this for me. Something that I wanted since I was 18 but I couldn't find anywhere." Smiled Rachna.

"O that's a beautiful broach. Great choice brother!"
But before Kabir could answer Rachna leaned on Kabir's arm and said, "aur nahi to? Kiska best friend hai yeh bhi to dekho." [Whose best friend is he, look at that also na] Said Rachna
Kabir for the first time in his life felt extremely uncomfortable when Rachna leaned on him. He could sense that this was not "right" anymore. He could also sense that Rajat did not like the gesture much which was but natural. If Kabir could not deal with the fact that Rajat , Rachna's future husband held her hand twice in front of him and Rachna did not object(so much so that he went away from them roaming aimlessly in the shopping mall), it was only likely that Rajat who was Rachna's beau would NOT like to see her close to some other guy even if he is Rachna's childhood buddy, her bestfriend.
"Achha Rachna to hum sab lunch ke liye chale?" asked Rajat.
[Alright Rachna should we all go for lunch now?]
"Haan.. sab kuch to kharid liya.. chalte hain." [Yeah.. have bought everything... let's go]
As the three of them entered the food court, Rachna said, "I will go order the food, I will order everything that I like today."
Rajat said, "nahi.. let me go get the food. Tum baitho you just tell me what you wanna have Rachna I will order everything."
"Nahi mujhe jane do na please!" [No let me go please!]
"No how can I? No husband makes his wife work," said Rajat looking not at Rachna but at Kabir.
Kabir immediately looked up at Rajat. The words husband and wife stung him hard. So long he had been trying his best to look normal. But now as Rajat addressed Rachna as his wife already he could wipe away the expression of hurt and shock from his face.
"Uh Ok.. Rajat I would appreciate if you treat me as a friend, your equal." Said Rachna laughing, "after all abhi bhi hamari shadi kahan hui hai. Hai na?" [after all we aren't married yet right?]
"Hui nahi to ho jayegi Rachna. tum baitho tell me what you will have."
Rachna said, "ok, if you insist." And Rachna gave a long list.
Kabir had no appetite left. He wanted to leave, run away, sit in a corner somewhere and be with himself.
Soon the food arrived. While Rajat and Rachna ate Kabir stared at blank space having no urge to eat. Rajat occasionally would draw Kabir into some conversation and he would merely nod or say an "yes" but technically he was far off from the present day, lost in his world, a world of hurt, pain heartbreak.

"Kabir! Kya soch rahe ho khao na" [Kabir! What are you thinking eat na!]
"Arre nahi yaar mujhe bhook nahi hai. Tum log khao" [Arre no yaar i am not hungry. U guys eat]
"Kyun bhook kyun nahi hai tujhe Kabir!" [Why are u not hungry Kabir!] said Rachna putting her hand on his forehead, "bukhaar to nahi hai na tujhe? Tune kal se thik se kuch bhi nahi khaya!" [U are not having temperature na? U didn't eat anything properly yeaterday as well!] sounding concerned.
Kabir removed her hand saying, "Nahi I am fine. Bas bhook nahi hai re." [No I am fine. I am just no hungry re.]
"Par kyun? Tu thik hai na?" [But why? Are u feeling well?]
"Haan Rachna! Jao tum paani lane jaa rahi thi na! Go" [Yeah Rachna! You were going to bring water na! Go]
Rajat said he would get the water for her instantly but Rachna declined and got up from her chair reluctantly still looking concerned.
As Rachna went away Rajat and Kabir were left behind. Rajat began a conversation.
"Kabir you know I really love Rachna. jis din usse pehli baar dekha tha tabhi se. She is so beautiful. Usse to khud nahi pata woh kitni khubsurat hai. Aur thoda bachpana bhi hai usme.Kafi Kuch samajhti nahi. Jaise ki kab kya karna hai. kab kya kehna hai. aur to aur itna bhi nahi samjhti ke har rishte ki ek alag jagah hoti aur samay ke saath saath rishte aksar badal jaate hain. Par I am sure samajh jayegi bohot jaldi." Smiled Rajat at Kabir.
[Kabir you know I really love Rachna. from the day I first day I ever saw her. She is so beautiful. She herself doesn't know how much beautiful she is. And is a little childish as well. She doesn't understand many a things. Like when what to do. When what to say. Moreover she doesn't even understand that every relation has it's own place and with time relations also change. But I am sure she'll understand very soon]
Kabir looked at him with a straight face, picking up the cue. He dint reply.
"Acha yeh chhodo yeh batao tumto uske bachpan ke dost hona to tumhe to patahi hoga ushe kya pasand hai, kya na pasand hai hai na? Woh actually main usse dinner date pe le jana chahta tha. To bataoge what are the things she likes?I want to make it special for her. ta ke usse lage how special she is for me.. Matlab.. you know what I mean.. hai na?" winked Rajat
[Alright leave all this, you tell, you are her childhood friend than u must be knowing about her likes and deslikes? Actually I wanted to take her to a dinner date. So would you tell what are the things she likes? I want to make it special for her so she sees how special she is for me... means... you know what i mean.. right?]
"Hmmm.." said Kabir reluctantly looking away.
"okay done then. Help me out ok! I am planning a date for tomorrow evening.Aur usse please batana mat! It's a surprise for her." [okay done then. Help me out ok! I am planning a date for tomorrow evening. And please don't tell her! It's a surprise.]
Kabir nodded.
Rachna was coming back to their table again.
"kya baatein ho rahi hai?" she asked.
"Nothing bas hum to aisehi" said Rajat. [Nothing much we were just]
"dessert here" said Rajat pointing to the tray of ice cream approaching them.
"Ice Cream?" said Rachna making a face, "erm We don't have ice cream. Matlab Kabir and me. We can't have ice cream."
"kyun?"[Why?] Asked Rajat
"Woh actually.."
"Nahi Rachna can have ice cream. I can't. Anyways mujhe Nimisha ka message aaya tha to main ja raha huun. You guys enjoy." Saying this Kabir left.
[No Rachna can have ice cream. I can't. Anyways I got Nimisha's text I would have to go. You guys enjoy.]
"Kabir" Rachna called after him.
But by then Kabir had already rushed towards the escalator.
Rachna was left troubled failing to understand what had happened to Kabir all of a sudden because for the first time Kabir had left her behind.
