Very nice discussion.
Suchitra, really appreciate you for starting this topic. I liked all the ideas presented here. I didnt press Like button cos I was engrossed in the discussion thoroughly. I am amazed to see youngsters also participating in this discussion and giving matured comments.
I think this discussion is best suited for this forum only. I rarely go to any other forums. But, whenever I have gone, I am really surprised about the viewers' interests and likings about the shows. They just dont want to see the male/female lead doing anything other than romancing 24 hours. Anyways, I dont read them much, so shouldnt criticize also. This forum has many matured viewers, whose writings are pleasure to read.
I think parents need to set a strong ground for children to look beyond beauty, racisim and other so called social status tags.

Rani mukharjee is sooooo good. I think she is VERY pretty and i love her voice. She is amazing as an actress specially in the movie mehendi i love that movie.

Also , Smitha Patil OMG what an actress, thank you bani for bringing her up.

I remember that movie Mirchi with her and nasarudeen shah,

what a movie it was awesome, it basically shows how men depicted women and how they developed the strength to face the enemy at the end. ITS a wonderful wonderful movie.

There are many of her movies which are really good. And she was Pretty!!! specially her eyes!

Another actress I like is shabana, VERY good actress and Tabu as well she is not what we say a glamor girl but does her roles real good. The movie chandini bar is a good movie of hers.

ok Not sure if you guyz watch tamil movies, if you watch , the old movies actresses like Savitri, KR vijaya, Saritha these women knew how to act.
Sridevi in hindi is just Glamour but in Tamil she knew acting. lol sorry I am an oldie fan.

I remember Hema malini once said that she got rejected in the Tamil industry cause she was "too Skinny" at that time the women who were of the figure of Vijayanthi mala , padmini got roles better.

Same with Rekha that is why she didn't do that well in the Tamil industry.

Beauty changed according to different era but still there was par that people used to judge beauty and that is what we need to cross.

We need to stop putting up pars, comparison models.

What ever Who ever , How ever are beautiful cause they are the Creation of God.

And I know once I was walking down my street ( I was like 14) and I saw couple of people, REALLLLLLY DARK in color and they were wearing a lime colored Sari and coming out of Church, they were speaking in Tamil.

And I went home and told my mum, that I saw some tamilians and they were coming out of a church. They were really really dark in color and I said it in a bad tone.

I remember my mom rebuking me and saying, you should not make fun of anyone due to their color.
Simple words : I started justifying myself in front of her , that i didn't mean in that way (which I probably did not but subconsciously I did think that why are they so dark and how come they are speaking Tamil? cause South indians are not "that" dark"

She said, your tone was enough to suggest that. They are God's Creations and if you rebuke them due to their color that means you are mocking God and making fun of HIM.

From then on I made it clear that i would never make fun of anyone for their color...

=====

What I understood from this whole episode is, it is the mother who shows the children the correct way.
How many of us would laugh at a child's word and think they are over smart? and not correct them saying, are ye tho abhi bacha hai?

like I said in the beginning of my post, Racism , Equality/in-Equality classes start at home... I was lucky enough to get good Tarbiyyah but we as mothers (future mothers many here in the forum) what are we doing to change ourselves so taht our children can take us as an example and not some cinema star?

This is what exactly we mothers have to teach children and set a strong ground to look beyond this "beauty" and also look beyond "I-perspective". I feel, it is not that difficult. We just need to have that mind-set first.

Hmm interesting thought. Imagine being tall, fair, skinny was considered "ugly". Maybe those ppl would be the victims of discrimination. It's not really anybody's fault. Really, where & how & when did such words were put into beautiful or ugly category. How did it start, from fairytale stories? :S

It Started from the whims and desire of human. Something called Jealousy.

Jealousy is a Nature Embedded into our blood streams

There are Three types of Jealousy

1 – When a person wants the blessing (beauty, status, wealth, goodness) to be taken away from his fellow human, even if it does not come to him; rather he does not like God to bless anyone else and that upsets him.

2 – Where he wants the blessing to be taken away from someone else because he wants it, in the hope that it will come to him.

3 – Where he wishes for himself a blessing like that which someone else has, without wanting it to be taken away from the other person. This type of jealousy is ok.

So, out of jealousy, the first type, the words like Ugly, Lower Caste, untouchable, discrimination, Racism, arose.

Because, why else would one want to hurt another human being? Is it not because the one he is hurting has something that this person dosen't have? Good Quality, Status, Beauty, something good.

The White disgraced the Black people why? to make themselves feel better and fearing that what if they take their status and power away? The African lands are rich and fertile, India as you all know was (is) a very culturally, and rich country. The british exploited because they wished/and feared that we might rise above and thus out of jealousy they tortured, committed crimes of racist nature and much much more..

Lets take households? Why do you think MIL and DIL do not get along? Jealousy
They might give it the outer appearance of something else like fat/skinny/dark/blue but reality is that...

Brothers : Same thing

What made Qaabil murder his own brother Haabil , the first children of Adam? Jealousy and as I mentioned in my earlier post ,
what made Satan disobey GOD?
jealousy towards Adam:

Root cause of all evil in this world is that. If we remove our hearts of this thing then all the bad of this world will wipe away by itself.

Nice one again suchitra👏

So is it that all "unattractive" ppl r the ones who r jealous? Or can "attractive" ppl be jealous too? See the fairytales somewhat set this wrong message that "unattractive" ppl r the evil ones always...for example snow-white's mom.

like the story u mentioned above, Qaabil was a skilled person & Haabil was jealous of that cuz he wasnt that skilled or anything...would the whole thing be different if Haabil was the skilled person & Qabil the non-skilled one? Would then Qabil the murderer?

The point I raised was not whether sexual orientation is right or wrong. What people do behind the closed doors of their bedroom is their business. The point I raised was that we cannot and should not use sexual orientation of a person as a reason to discriminate against them. They are after all human beings.

I have several gay friends at work and each one of them is as normal as any one of us, they get the flu, they sneeze, they are nice and occasionally get mad. In other words, there is nothing about them as human beings that can be used against them. Yet, time and again they've had to fight gossip, perception and alienation. Why? Have they gone out and hurt anyone? Have they murdered or stolen or hated anyone? NO! To me the straight wall-street banker who looted the regular joe of his daily livelihood and wiped his bank account is more hateful than a gay person.

The bottom line is this - there are many many gays in India. Yet we as a society do not like to admit it. I know of a family friend in India with a family. However, late in his life he admitted to being gay and lost his family, friends and all the near and dear ones. The fact is he was never happy in his relationship with his wife and his wife and children were never happy. To live a farce, they all suffered and in the end paid heavily with social ostracism.

Again, I am not justifying anyone's orientation - like I said before, what one does behind the closed doors of ones bedroom is ones own business.

Long time ago in US the decree was separate but equal. Now some 40 years we know there is no separate and equal. there is separate is unequal.

Re Kerry's loss in election - he lost because of a very poorly run Democratic election machinery. It had little to do with his Democratic agenda. See how Obama won? He ran on the same liberal platform. The funny thing is Obama won because of heavy voter support from folks in their 20s and 30s - a relatively young voting pool. This is another interesting thing I notice - youngsters today seem more tolerant of differences than previous generations.

Oh well. Time to get ready for the week. Mera Bhashan samapth hua!!!😆

Vish - Congratulations on having your son serve in the Navy - that is so awesome, I should tell my son too 👏

Thanks. It wasn't easy. He really had risen above race, discrimination, physique, and other barriers. He is a living example - the limits exist only in your mind. It demanded sacrifices on his part and still does while kids his age are partying and having fun 😊. He is only 25. Your kids become what you teach them in their early years. Well sorry shonaa I mixed up the brothers, it was Qaabil who killed Haabil and in the Qur'an its mentioned (I haven't researched it according to Biblical and Judaical sources yet) that Haabil and Qaabil where both asked to put some of their "yeildings" as Sacrifice. Qaabil was given the duty of taking care of Vegetation where as Haabil was given the duty of taking care of the sheep (herds).

So when they placed their sacrifice Qaabil choose the most worst of his yeildings whereas Haabil chose the best of his sheep for sacrifice.

In teh earlier times the sacrifice was accepted by God sending in fire and the fire consuming it and showing the signs of acceptance.

habil's was accepted as he did it out of pure intention where was qaabil's was rejected.

So jealousy arose and to teh extent that Qaabil was then instigated by Iblis and he ended up killing his brother.

Haabil said to his brother, that even if you raise your hand to kill me I will not raise my hand to defend. This shows the nature of Haabil .

About the questions of what-ifs,
This is something that has happened in the past. So would the world be different? I do not know because it didn't happen that way.

From the stories that has happened and from scripture what we need to do is , take lessons, and see where they went wrong so that we do not do that mistake again.

Now if you read tha tstory more, Qaabil later got scared and regreted his act. He wanted to hide the body of his brother. He didn;t know what to do.. so he saw a crow putting mud on a dead crow and he said, what a shame has befalling me that I did not know even this much as to how to take care of the dead. Meaning to bury so as you know

Christians, Muslims and Jewish bury their dead.

In other words there is lesson in the stories of the past and those that are mentioned in teh scripture.

=======
ABout who is jealous and who is not, its not as simple and plain like that.

If you look in india, and this actually amazed me,
My family comes from a STRICT brahmin iyyengar family, and you know they are very strict in madi (amm like showers before entering kitchen etc.etc)

So they pretty much are very caste "aware". They look down upon iyers and Iyers look down upon Iyengars. I mean they both are brahmins but even within their own class they have discrimination. It was funny when I found Similar Behavior in pelais as well ( they are "lower caste" )
they themselves have differences in classes within their own class.

So, its not really ugly are jealous, beautiful are jealous... its Human who are jealous.
A man who acts as a servant (those who bowed down in front of British in India, Rajput State Kings) did they not in turn behave like the Maharajon kay Maharaja in front of their subjects? illtreat them ?

Point being, Jealousy is everywhere, so if you feel that your heart is misdirecting, misguiding or showing you ill feeling about someone then, look what is that you see in that person that you LACK.

sometimes that is why a person tries to show himself in the better nature so that his "kami, lack of that particular character" remains hidden.
