CHAPTER 8:

After sometime Tejas broke the hug and looked at her eyes intently. Vidhya also looked back.

Tejas (softly): Tu yaha kya kar rahi hai Vidhya?

[What are you doing here Vidhya?]

Vidhya: Woh main garden mein thi jab tum aye. Tumhe achanak iss taraf ate dekha toh...

[I was in the garden when you came. When I saw you coming in this way I...]

Tejas got up and ran a hand in his hair. He turn his back towards her. Vidhya waited patiently.

Tejas: Tujhe Raju yad hai?

[Do you remember Raju?]

Vidhya was about to nod when she realize Tejas won't be able to see. So, she spoke up.

Vidhya: Ha. Woh Mr. Mehta ka beta tha na? Hamari hi umar ka tha.

[Yes. He was Mr. Mehta's son. Right? He was about our age.]

Tejas took a deep breath and slowly released it.

Tejas: We used to play together. You didn't use to come out often. 13 yrs ago one day I went to out to play alone. As Ashish was having fever and you didn't want to come out. At the play ground I searched for Raju. But he was also absent. I went to his house to check on him to see if he was alright or not.

FLASHBACK:

Tejas knocked the door but realized that the door is open. He pushed the door and went inside. He thought about calling him just then he heard a faint sound. It was coming from the living room. He went to that direction. When he reached there he discovered Raju lying in a pull of blood. His hands and legs were tied together. Tejas rushed to him. He shook him a bit. After some time Raju opened his eyes. He had a blank look in his eyes. Gradually his eyes gained it's focus. He looked at Tejas with panic eyes.

Raju: Tttejas tu yyyaha kya kar raha hai?

[Tttejas what are you doing in hhhere?]

Tejas: Raju tu yaha iss halat main? Uncle aunty kaha hai? Ruk main teri help karta hoom.

[Raju what happened? Where's uncle aunty? Wait I will help you.]

Raju: Nnnehi. Tttu jja yaha se. Bhag ja. Warna wwwoh tttujhe bhi mar dalega.

[Nnno. You ggget out from here. Run. Or hhe will kkkill you.]

Tejas: Koun marega mujhe? Aunty kaha hai?

[Who will kill me? Where's aunty?]

Just then Tejas noticed someone lying beside him. He looked and suddenly recognized. It was Mrs. Mehta Raju's mother. Her throat was slit open. Eyes bulging out. He bit back a scream. He will have to take Raju from here. Suddenly he heard some one coming towards this direction. Raju's eyes became wide open.

Raju:Jja. Ccchup ja. Pleeease.

Raju had tears in his eyes. Tejas thought for a minitue and the hid behind a big sofa. When the foot step came close he waited for some time and then gathering all her courage he peepd in. It was Mr. Mehta. He had a big bloody knife in hand. He was looking like a mad person. He crouched infront of Raju who was shivering badly.

Mr. Mehta: Beta tu bilkul maat darna. Main tujhe tere mamma ke paas bhej rahi hu. Main bhi aa javuungi. Phir haam teeno saath mein rehenge. Bohot khush rahenge.

[Don't be afraid dear. I am sending you to your mamma. I will also join you guys. Then we will live together. We will be happy.]

Tejas want to go to him. He wanted to rescue Raju. But Raju signaled him to stop. Those big eyes told him to stop. To safe himself. All of a sudden Mr. Mehta stabbed Raju. Raju let out a blood freezing scream. Tejas also scream. But Mr. Mehta didn't notice. After that he went from there to his bedroom. Tejas slowly went to Raju. He was still alive. Raju couldn't say anything more. Just stared at him with full of love. Those eyes held no accusation just selfless love. As if Raju was relieved that Tejas saved himself. Tejas didn't know how long he stayed like that with Raju's head in his lap. After sometime Tejas went out and started towards home. He didn't know how he reached home and what happened but after two days he gain concsious. Then he heard that Mr. Mehta commited suicide. Everybody suspected that someone had killed his wife and children so he couldn't bear the grief. But Tejas know better.

FLASHBACK ENDS

Tejas laughed a bitter laugh. But tears were floating down from his eyes.

Tejas: Kuch nehi kar pya main. Kuch nehi. Aaj bhi woh akhne mujhe haunt karti hai.

[I couldn't do anything. Nothing. Still those eyes haunt me.]

He turned around and saw Vidhya standing close to his. Vidhya took his rough hands in her delicate hands and squeezed.

Vidhya: Tejas tum sirf 8 saal ke the. Agar tum waha usse bacha ne jaate toh Mr. Mehta tumhe dekh leta aur tumhe bhi maar deta. Tejas believe me Raju jaha kahi bhi hai khush hai. Kiyu ki marne se pehle usse iss baat ka sukun mila ki ussne apne dost ki jaan bachya.

[Tejas you were only eight. If you went to save Raju then Mr. Mehta would've seen you and killed you. Tejas believe me whereever Raju is now he is happy. Because he before death he felt peace that he saved his friend's life.]

Tejas nodded but didn't answer. He was still not sure but Vidhya didn't press anymore. She tugged his hand.

Vidhya: Chalo ghar chale.

[C'mon. Lets go home.]

Outside it had already gone dark. Full moon was smilling. Seeing this Vidhya squeled in happiness.

Vidhya: Look Tejas it's full moon.

Tejas also looked up and smiled. Together hand in hand they started towards their destination. Their home.

In another part of the city Gopi and Meera were arranging their new home. They arrived this morning. Tejas rent this for them. Though Gopi didn't tell Meera. In fact she didn't tell her anything about Tejas and their meeting.

Meera: Mamma Tejas bhi yaha hota to kitna accha hota nehi? I mean woh hamari help kar deta.

[Mamma it would be good if Tejas would've come. I mean he could've help us.]

Gopi just stared at her with wide eyes.

Meera came near her and shook her a bit.

Meera: Mamma apko kya laga ki mujhe kuch pata nehi chalega? Mujhe sab pata hai. Vidhya kitni khubsurat ho gyi hai na?

[Mamma what did you think? If you don't tell me I wouldn't know? I know everything. By the way Vidhay became really beatiful.]

Gopi: I am sorry Meera.

Meera: Please mamma don't. You have done nothing wrong. Okay? Let's forget it.

Meera looked outside and noticed the full moon.

Meera (in mind): You know what my heart says mamma? It says that we are gonna re unite with our family soon..

But she had no idea that it's going to be very soon...
