Part-7

"Where there's Marriage without Love, there will be Love without Marriage."

A few weeks passed and Gopi hoped that things have cooled down sufficiently to talk to the Mehtas. Ahem wanted her to divorce Ajay and she had no particular desire to stay married to him. She was brought up in a family that was zealously vegetarian, even eggs were a big no-no. Ajay loved non-veg , since he didn't dare to bring meat into the house, he used to eat it in hotels…and that too in her presence. She found it revolting..she had no prejudice against non-vegetarians, she just didn't like vegetarians turning into non-vegetarians. She had tried persuading him but he was of the opinion that what he eats is solely his decision.

Sarala Mehta wanted grandkids and never missed an opportunity to remind her sons and daughters-in-law of her desire. Rashi wanted a kid but Gopi wasn't sure about her love for Ajay..having a child together makes strong relationships stronger and weak ones further shaky. She worried about how it would scar the child mentally.

He was gentle to her, he cared for her health……..but he could also be quite abrasive with words and unfeeling at times…The stench of cigarette smoke coming from him repelled her.. There was also another reason behind their failed relationship- he had a high sex drive whereas Gopi drew happiness from having loving conversations and being there for one another . Their whole attitude towards intimacy was different, Ajay would accuse her of being frigid and as a result she agreed to get intimate even when she was not in the mood..she hated the compromise and it built up some resentment in her. She kept the pretence of being happy and taught herself to think that she was happy,it was her guilt which made her like that …but not anymore. If relationship has turned stifling then hanging on to it is a crime towards both her spouse and herself.

Ajay was a good person to be friends with but not as a husband. Ahem's arrival merely precipitated the break-up, it wasn't the cause behind it. Morality and social values proved to be inadequate to stop her from choosing to be with Ahem…

"You cant just 'steal' anyone from anybody...They were probably already prepared to leave, you're just the excuse."

-Anon

Rashi's position had weakened considerably after Gopi's departure. Her in laws used to see Gopi's image in her …after all she and Gopi had the same blood running in their veins. Sarala heaped scorn on her and used to ask her why she hasn't been able to give her a grandchild, does she have plans similar to those of Gopi's?

Jigar wanted to be a Dad too, so he thought it would be better to visit an infertility specialists and get the tests done…his mom would keep quiet after that. The tests were done and Rashi was to collect the report the next day, the doctors informed her that Jigar suffers from testicular azoospermia and can't be treated. This shattered Rashi, she knew that her husband would be in tremendous pain if he hears that. The society would cast aspersions on his masculinity…what should she tell to Maaji?

In order to protect Jigar's sanity she decided to take the blame on herself. Jigar felt sad when his wife told him about her infertility, he hugged her and both of them cried. He told her that he would find a way out. Sarala heaped scorn on Rashi more frequently now but Rashi respected her and didn't answer back. Sarala was against adoption, she had her own prejudice against artificial insemination and surrogacy. In short she wanted Rashi out of her son's life and nothing could change her mind.

She hatched a plan to create mistrust in Rashi's mind and make her leave on her own as Jigar was hesitant. Sarala starts with alluding to how some of her acquaintances had got a grandchild after throwing out their barren DIL and getting their son remarried . Jigar's dad shared his wife's views. They were one of those people who hide their obscurantist thinking behind a faade of modernity.

Sarala started planting showing proofs of Jigar's infidelity to break Rashi's resolve…Rashi grinned and bared it for some time..but her heart broke with every proof of Jigar's womanizing nature.

He was the man whom she tried to insulate from pain by declaring herself as infertile. Oh Jigarji I trusted you so much and is this what I get in return? I had no plans of sleeping around to beget a child…and this is what you do to me when you think that things are the way round. Doesn't my love and fidelity count for anything?

Gopi called Rashi to apologise and to ask whether things are fine to initiate her divorce proceedings with Ajay? Rashi told "Yes Gopi, let us approach the same lawyer, it would be cheaper that way"

Gopi was aghast and believed that she had vitiated Rashi's relationship with her inlaws by her actions. Rashi told her the whole story and thanked her for speeding up the process of seeing the Mehta's true nature. She told her sis about her plans to reveal the truth to the Mehtas after the divorce…she will treat him in the way they treated her. She won't cling to the marriage now that she has seen the true face of it.

"If you left me without a reason don't come back with an excuse".

That was fantastic Vidhisha.. I loved the reason Gopi chose to walk out of her marriage.. It seems just a sham.. 😊
The mehta's are really mean people behind their fake goodness. Is this how a woman treats another?😕 I really understand why Rashi decided to get a divorce. But Jigar is the good guy here.. I somehow feel this is his way to free Rashi off this marriage to get on with her life😛

Part-8

The divorce happened and Sarala Mehta tried to sadden Rashi by telling that Jigar was going to be a dad soon. Rashi gave a sarcastic smile at Jigar and said that if he ever becomes a "dad" then he should take the kid for DNA test as he can't father a child. Jigar gave a look of disbelief and Rashi told him everything with a chuckle of a triumphant woman.

Jigar was shattered to find out that his mistress was cheating on him. He would have killed her if he had the impunity which King Henry had. He was named and shamed in television reports- he was garlanded with stinking chappals by women claiming to be his wives. The "sharafat" of the Mehtas was for all the world to see...but this wasn't the end of it...the normally vocal Sarala Mehta was left speechless when she found out that her husband was bisexual.

Rashi now shifted base to Bangalore and lived close to Gopi. One day Ahem saw his reportee Shishir looking at Rashi, he found something strange and decided to observe him…Shishir used to go downstairs and wait for Rashi to emerge from her office in the next building and stand till her cab leaves…Ahem chuckled to himself and told another victim of the love bug. What really interested him was how Shishir knew Rashi and why is he acting scared.

That night he asked Gopi whether she knew of any guy called Shishir in Rashi's life? Gopi said no but in a moment she started describing a boy who fit Shishir's description perfectly, Gopi said that a classmate of Rashi called Shishir had a one sided attachment to Rashi. "You know what Ahem? I thought initially that he was after me"..Gopi laughed out loudly…..So is he still interested in Di? Ahem smiled and said that he thinks so……

Gopi didn't want her sister to spend a loveless life. She knew that her sis used to dream about marital bliss. This was an opportunity..

Ahem followed Shishir and confronted him. Shishir got scared when Ahem started questioning him..he feared that she might be his wife. Ahem had his share of fun and finally revealed the truth. Shishir had no issues with Rashi being a divorcee.

Shishir was tutored by the invincible Ahem Modi and this expert coaching bore results soon..Rashi and Shishir started to date and grew closer. Gopi loved flirting with Shishir's friend Ayin( a handsome hunk from N-E India). Rashi used to censor her in mock- anger and Ahem took it sportively as he knew that his wife always had a thing for guys with mongoloid features.

Wedding bells followed… and Rashi,Gopi, Ahem and Shishir moved into a 4BHK house. It was a joint family with a difference- here, women were the one's who are related.
