Gopi woke up and wondered whether it was reality or dream. She looked at her husband who was sleeping like a baby… why was it that she was not at peace…why has the return of an unfaithful disturbed her so much…why was she speculating the reason behind his betrayal. She thought that she had forgotten him but then why was she affected by his arrival? Meeting him again was a test and she had failed in it.
"Ahem's face looked as if he wanted to say something to her…he was fighting with himself to control his emotions…"
Gopi got up to get ready for work. Rashi asked her whether she was sick and Gopi didn't even hear it. Rashi had to block her way in order to make her talk. Gopi told her she couldn't sleep well because of mosquitoes. Rashi said "Oh, then it is fine. I thought that you fought with devarji". Gopi gave a fake smile and started helping herself to breakfast cereals.
Gopi thought about Ahem's present life while driving to work. Does he have a girl friend. Is he married? Kids?. ..suddenly, a cow appeared in front of her car and she had to stop suddenly. The car behind her didn't stop in time and it bumped into her. Gopi got out of her car to talk to the other driver…the driver turned out to be Ahem, Gopi turned back and rushed toward her car to avoid being recognized by Ahem.
Ahem ran to catch up with her and shouted "Who issued driving license to you ? Where are you running to after damaging my car due to your carelessness". Gopi failed to escape and came face to face with her past.
Ahem tried to strike a conversation but Gopi remained silent and tried to make her way to the car .Ahem held her arm firmly and made his point. This was the moment Gopi was both dreading and waiting for. They moved their cars and went to a caf to talk. Ahem spoke after a moment's silence. Gopi was looking at table..Ahem tried to touch her hand but then decided against it.
He told everything that he wanted to tell her but Gopi didn't look at him even once. Was it hatred or love which made it impossible to look at him and stay calm. Ahem said "Gopi please tell something? I have spent nights lamenting my fate …don't ever think that I don't love you". Gopi got up to go, her heart wanted to believe his words but she was still in doubt.
She drove to office and called Shirin … and found that every word Ahem spoke was true…she got emotional and Shirin got worried about the repercussion Ahem's arrival will have on her friend's marriage. Gopi's heart was a mess..she took a day's leave and went to Shirin's house. She cried her heart out in front of her..she didn't think that Shirin's decision was bad..she cursed her fate. Until yesterday she believed that she controlled her destiny but today everything was beyond her control. Jake came back early from work early and saw Gopi … she had cried so much that her eyes were as red as her ruby earrings………
He didn't know what to tell her..she can't break her home….then what about Ahem…was it too late for them? She doesn't have kids so is it fine if she and Ahem???? Ahem wants her and is now willing to leave his family for her. Should he tell that to her? Will it bias her decision.
