Part-7

"Being a woman is a terribly difficult task, since it consists principally in dealing with men."
Joseph Conrad

Gopi smiled when Anand said this to her. The bus was moving rather slowly and Anand was reading. Gopi asked him whether he doesn't feel giddy...Anand smiled at her, he loved the fact that Gopi was concerned about him...a small corner in his heart wanted her to care for him...he looked out of the window and remarked that it would take them another ten minutes to reach the workshop venue.

Gopi had transformed amazingly in the past two years. Earlier she was a shy and reticent girl who shied away from talking to men who are not related to her...and now she was comfortable travelling in co-worker's company.

Anand was her companion is this journey but what about the journey of life?

Ahem had hired a detective to trace Gopi and today he brought the good news to the Modi parivar...Ahem was delighted at this piece of news, he look wistfully at his son's photograph which the detective had given him..but he didn't know how to approach her...he didn't have the courage to face her...he had behaved barbarically with her, abandoned her after she became pregnant and denied fathering her child...how could he ask for forgiveness..how can he ask her permission to meet the child he had forsaken.

He had violated her body and insulted her morals, he had compounded his mistakes by throwing her out of house. No wife can forgive her husband if he casts such kind of aspersions on her.

Mater semper certa; pater est quem nuptiae demonstrant

Ahem had heard it before but it now it disturbed him a lot.

Gopi returned to her son after the seminar got over, Prabal greeted her by shouting Ma...Ma.. It was one of the few words in the little one's vocabulary.

Ahem thought a lot about wooing Gopi back into his life, he knew that the task was very very difficult but he had to atone for his sins...and he couldn't do that without meeting her...he wanted to meet his son before he starts questioning his mom about his absence in their lives...It was bad enough that Gopi hated him, he didn't was his son to despise him. He would give him all the comforts he is entitled to, he would give him his love and attention...he was his heir...he shouldn't be staying in an institution..he is not an orphan, MM is his home.

Part-8

Ahem had gone to meet Gopi but officials at Mahila ashray told that she had gone to Ahemadabad for two days. They refused to let him meet Prabal in her absence. Ahem got so angry at them that he hurled his cellphone against a window, the inmates watched all this in horror. Lata, who knew all about Gopi's relationship with her husband saw what Gopi had been telling all along. Ahem can get really violent when he is angry. She decided not to tell Gopi about the incident.

Anand was looking at Gopi from the corner of his eyes, he looked at her and wondered how foolish her husband must have been to throw such a woman out of his life...but if he hadn't done it then he wouldn't have met her. Anand saw his childhood in Prabal, his father had abandoned him and his mother for another woman...it had hurt him deeply. He didn't want Prabal to grow up without a father...he would fill the vacant space in that kid's life.

It is much easier to become a father than to be one. ~Kent Nerburn, Letters to My Son: Reflections on Becoming a Man, 1994

Ahem did the easier job...now Anand wanted to become the second one. He had spoken to Gopi about it, she was evasive about it but Lata had counselled her by telling that Ahem has not ruined her life, she is ruining it herself by refusing love when it comes knocking... She is far too young to lead a solitary existence all her life. Prabal needs to brought up in a family, he should have a father whom he could upto.

Anand was pleasantly surprised when Gopi walked upto him...his joy knew no bounds when she told him that she has accepted his proposal. She hastily added that she wanted to be married soon...before she changes her mind.

They got married in a temple the next day...and went back to Rajkot in the wedding finery.

"It has been said that adoption is more like a marriage than a birth: two (or more) individuals, each with their own unique mix of needs, patterns, and genetic history, coming together with love, hope, and commitment for a joint future. You become a family not because you share the same genes, but because you share love for each other."

An interesting update.
Finally Ahem comes around looking for Gopi but she was not there. Within this time Gopi decides to marry another man. How is it that timings can set the scales so unbalanced. This marriage between Gopi and Anand will be illegal.
Looking forward to reading the next update of what Ahem will do when he hears or sees a married Gopi to another man.

Yes it is illegal...but so are a lot of things in India😉...the illegality is crucial in the progress of the story😊
