We saw his guilt during the accident track. Ahem can face punishments any day but it is forgiveness given easily that throws him off because he considers himself unworthy of such generosity. He faced his mom's harsh punishments as his due but when Gopi absolved him of his guilt he almost broke down.
This time it will be worse. She will consider that he was not at fault at all and this generosity is what will make him repent more..
