Part 3

Both Gopi and Aham slept through the night peacefully and restfully. For this night they were together and had the best sleep they had had in a very long time. They were both sleeping on their sides facing each other practically on opposite edges of the bed. Gopi was the first one to awaken, she smiled a bit before her eyes opened and fell on Aham. She thought he was still part of her dream and her smile grew. Sensing Gopi's eyes on him, Aham's eyes also opened and met hers. Time stood still as they both went back and forth between the world of dream and reality. Then something changed in Aham's eyes, was it awareness, desire, anger, fear, worry? That look made Gopi realise that this was no dream and jumped up from the bed and tried to straighten her pallu as she ran out of the room. Aham came fully awake and he too stood up and reached out to stop Gopi but she had already run out the door. Aham's extended arm slowly dropped, he wasn't sure what just happened. He decided to go out jogging, that always helped start the day on the right note. He changed to go out and when he passed his room his feet automatically slowed down. He pushed the door open slightly and hesitated before entering, "why was he going into this room?" he asked himself. Since he had no answer, he changed his intentions of going into his old room. Just then Gopi came out of the bathroom still towel drying her hair. Her face was clear of all make up, her hair was wet and loose all round her face. Aham was stupefied by the vision of this pari or angel who had accidentally fallen from the sky straight in his bedroom. "How was it possible for someone from this world to be so captivating?" his brain asked him in a quiet whisper. After a few minutes of this madness, Aham couldn't believe he was lurking in front of his own bedroom and peeking at his own wife. What was wrong with him? As Gopi moved towards her dressing table, Aham walked off in a hurry to get out of the house where he would be outside the sphere of her influence.

After his run, Aham felt in a much better frame of mind and had formulated a plan in regards to Kinjal. He went back to his room to take a shower and get ready. When he was ready Mani brought his black tea and as she was leaving Aham said, "Mani, do you know what is going on with Gopi?"

Mani startled that Aham bhai was talking to her, turned around and said. "Gopi Bhabi?"

Aham, "Is there something wrong with her?"

Mani, "I am sorry Aham bhai, I don't know what you mean?"

Aham, "Is she sick?"

Mani, thought to herself that Gopi had asked her to not say anything to anyone but no one knew or cared about her and since Aham bhai is asking then it is time for him to start caring for her and noticing her. She said. "Aham bhai, Gopi bhabi likes to care for everyone in the family but often forgets to take care of herself."

Aham frowned and asked in his abrupt way of speaking, "What does that mean?"

Since she had already started and there was no turning back, Mani continued on, "She often forgets to eat and is very devoted to god and fasts all the time. Then yesterday she kept a fast with no food or water. Please forgive me for saying this but she didn't tell anyone so no one asked if she had eaten and I don't think she has broken her fast."

Aham was thoughtful and said, "Make sure she eats today." And he turned away from Mani to indicate that the conversation was over. What is wrong with this girl? Why would she not look after herself?

Aham left his room and he didn't run into Gopi or see her, not that he was looking. He stopped in front of Kinjal room and knocked.

Meanwhile Gopi got ready for the day with a new kind of excitement she had never felt before. She was looking forward to what the day would bring her. She was about to step outside her room when she remembered that, even though it was time for arti, she wasn't allowed to participate. She wasn't allowed to help in the kitchen. Her high hopes for the day came crashing down all around her. It was still early in the morning but she had nothing to do, nothing to look forward to, no one to take care off, and no husband and family to look after or talk to.. Life was hard enough but now she didn't have housework to keep her busy. All she had waiting for her was her aloneness and her loneliness. As she sat by herself in her room, the memories of the night before came crashing down into her thoughts with an intensity she could no longer ignore. At least Ahamji listened to her last night and hopefully soon he will be able to figure out what to do about Kinjal ben. She was still in shock that she fell asleep on Ahamji like, he must be so angry with her. How could she allow that to happen? Gopi was beside herself with worry about Aham's reaction to the events of last night.

Shelly, you're amazing. I'm glad you're writing this! Keeps us distracted from the train wreck we're watching! I'm glad you had Mani explain a few things to Aham. I wish the one in the serial was as straight forward with him!
