"Singh" among Rajputs is a common surname. Marathas use the surname a lot.
In Sikhism, Singh started being used only after late 1600 where Guru Gobind Singhji wished that in Sikhism there is no lower/higher class so all men are called Singh (Lion) and Women are Kaur (Princess)..
Not sure but I think a lot of people in Bihar/UP also have the surname.
