Poonam Joshi exits Saat Phere

Poonam Joshi's character of Dr. Nishi in Saat Phere is going to get over soon. She plays the fiance of Nil in the show. We spoke to Poonam to find out more.




About her track, Poonam says, "It is the first time that I am playing a doctor in a show. The character of Nishi has quite interesting shades. However, it is a cameo of three months and there are only 15-20 days left for my schedule to get over so my track will end next month."

On her exit, she says, "The creative team is working on what to do with my character. It is a popular character and I am getting good responses for this role, as it is different from the regular saas-bahu characters. And there are strong chances that my track will comeback after some time considering the response."

Poonam says she wanted this break. "I am shooting for two dailies so it is a very tiring schedule. I cannot catch up with my friends or spend time with family. I will immediately go for a holiday though I have not planned anything."

About her role in Bhabhi, she says, "I play Rishika, sister-in-law of the female lead. Bhabhi's creative team always takes care of their track very well. This time as well they are making some creative changes. They improve the graph of the character very nicely."

Saat Phere track

The focus will be on Saloni as she has got back her memory. Nil rescued Saloni after her accident. Both Nishi and Nil took good care of Saloni when she lost her memory, since she was pregnant. As per the track, Nishi and Nil are going to get married soon but we have learnt that it is not going to take place in the near future.

We hear Sharad been visiting a dietician.

Now, whether the visits to the dietician are to help Sharad shed off those extra kilos or for his wife Keerti is not certain because the couple's spotted there together.

Twinkle has a brother in Sharad

Twinkle Bajpai's on-screen brother may be Yuvraj (Romit Raj) but Lakshmi from Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyaan has an off-screen brother - Sharad Kelkar (Nahar of Saat Phere).




Twinkle tells us why, "When I had gone to Dubai 6 months back, I got a severe asthma attack and my condition was worsened by pollution and the hectic schedule. At that point of time, Sharad was also in Dubai for an Antakshari festival and he took care of me, taking me to the hospital and calling my relatives to look after me at the hospital. I can't remember the name of the hotel; it was from this incident that I started calling him Sharad Bhaiyaa. Keerti is my bhabhi."

She adds, "Whenever we all meet both Sharad and Keerti pamper me a lot as I am the youngest among all the Betiyaan girls. Even now Sharad Bhaiyya keeps inquiring about my health."

Sharad confirmed this, saying she was his off-screen "foster sister."

Surely, Nahar is not only caring on-screen, he is a real-life hero. Isn't he?

Sharad Kelkar made a name for himself in the small screen as Nahar in the Zee TV show, Saath Phere. Now, the handsome actor is ready to try something different. He will rub shoulders with Ajay Devgan [Images] and wife Kajol [Images] in Zee TV's reality show, Rock n Roll. The Devgans, along with Kajol's mother, Tanuja, will be the judges of the dance show while Sharad will be the host.

He tells Rajul Hegde more about Rock n Roll.

How did you get to host this show?


I have anchored a low-profile show on Zee Dubai. I think the channel saw that and chose me.


How does it feel to host a big reality show like this?


It is an amazing experience. I am very nervous because I have not hosted any reality show like this before.

Also, the Zee Dubai show did not have any judges. But here, we have Ajay Devgan, Kajol and Tanuja who are really big stars.

It's challenging and will be a learning experience for me.

How does it feel to share the stage with big stars?

I am from a small town -- Gwailor -- so it was a big thing meeting them. I spoke to Ajay Devgan backstage just before coming on the stage, so it was cool. But I felt very nervous with Kajol and Tanuja. I have grown up watching Tanujaji's movies, so I was very apprehensive when I met her for the first time. It is an honour for me to share the stage with such renowned film actors.

Will there will be a lot of drama like the other reality shows?


I was carried away when I met an old couple. I don't have to do anything to make them cry or laugh. They will cry even if they win or lose. I am just going to have fun. You will see a different Sharad on this show.


Will it hamper your Saath Phere shooting?


No. I have 10 days to shoot for Saath Phere. Reality shows like this have fixed days. I have already given them my dates.


Saath Phere was a number one show but now its popularity is waning...


Yes. The ratings have been dipping for the last few months probably because viewers didn't like to see Nahar and Saloni (characters in the show) separated. Now that Saloni and Nahar are back together, there has been an increase in the ratings.


Do you get time for yourself?


I shoot for 22 days a month and reserve eight days for my family. I have promised my wife, Keerti, that I will take her out of Mumbai every month. I have gone to few places like Goa [Images], Kerala [Images], and Hong Kong. I hate travelling because I cannot sit for long time, thanks to my long legs.


You also participated in the singing competition show Jhoom India? How was the experience?

I enjoyed the show though I was out after a few episodes. I have also decided to learn singing from the experts of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa team on Zee TV.

Rock n Roll starts on March 14, at 10pm on Zee TV.

'At heart I am a small town guy'



In a free-wheeling interview with A. L. CHOUGULE Saath Phere protagonist Sharad Kelkar speaks about the challenge of anchoring a reality show.

Q Anchoring seems to be the new career option for actors. Is it the case with you too?
Not really. I have anchored a few award functions and have also hosted a mini season of Antakshari for Zee Dubai. But that was just a 13-episode job done in four days. After I was voted out of Jjhoom India, I got this offer from Zee to host Rock-N-Roll Family and I just grabbed it because this is a big show and offers a larger platform for me to try out television hosting.

Q It is said that talkative people make good TV hosts. How comfortable do you feel in your new job?
I love talking and if talking makes you a good anchor then I am already a good host (laughs). But jokes apart, anchoring is not easy. When I anchored Antakshari I was quite nervous on the first day. The lack of confidence was probably because I was not used to working with a nine-camera set up. But I improved gradually.

Q Does the presence of a high profile jury on the show make you nervous?
I am sure it does. I am sure I am going to stammer and shiver on the first day of shoot. Kajol, Ajay and Tanujaji are big celebrities. I have only seen them in movies and never met them in person. Though I am living in Mumbai for the last couple of years, at heart I am a small town guy in awe of film celebrities.

Q How much does a script help in anchoring a show?
Generally we get a basic script to prepare for each episode. In some stage shows there is a tele-prompter too. Here there will be script but anchoring is not possible without deviating from the script. Since this is a big show for me I am going to do proper technical rehearsals before I start shooting.

Q. What's the USP of Rock-N-Roll Family?
Three generations of one family competing on a dance floor for the title. The essence of the show is grit, determination, emotions, family bonding and passion for dance. It's a fun show and I am sure everyone, including the jury, will have a great time.

Q Why didn't you get your wife Kirti to co-host the show?
We don't make a complete family yet. If Kirti had to be on the show we should have had a child first. The show is for three generations and we 've yet to start a third generation.

Q Why are you lagging behind?
Where is the time to start a family when both of us are working?

Q You have done a couple of shows with Kirti. Why are you not working with her anymore?
Nobody is giving us an opportunity to work together again. But I am doing a show with her at home and it's going great guns (laughs).

Life has come full circle for Gwalior's Sharad Kelkar, a former fitness instructor and now a prime time television star.

After shaking a leg as a contestant in Nach Baliye 2, he's now anchoring a reality dance show, Rock & Roll Family. The softspoken Marathi mulga based in Mumbai can't stop gushing about the celeb judges he's working with — Ajay Devgan, Kajol and Tanuja. "They all are very friendly and down-to-earth. It was a pleasure working with them. At no point have they thrown starry tantrums," says Sharad during a video-conference interview with AT.

A one-time model, Sharad has also been a ramp and TV commercial model before going on to win a male beauty pageant in 2002. An MBA, Sharad confesses that after being "a gym instructor, branch manager at a software company and telecom industry" the glamour world was where he wanted to be. For telly buffs, Sharad is better known as Nahar, the tall, fair, Prince Charming in Saat Phere.

What's more fun, playing Nahar or anchoring a show? "Well, Nahar is the ideal son-in-law, brother and husband. He's a real hero. In my new role as an anchor, I can be myself – that's enjoyable. I wanted to be an anchor for very long. Last time when I did a reality show, I didn't really work wonders, but I am sure as an anchor I will make a mark," he confesses.

In fact, Sharad insists that more than the production house, what matters when he takes up work is his instinctive reaction. "If I get goose bumps after hearing a script then I sign up, or else not."After having played the good guy and also a baddie on television, Sharad hopes to do comedy and action roles soon. Sharad might have played the lead in a Marathi film Uttarayan in 2004, but as of now, he has no Bollywood plans.

Finally, how does he strike a balance between his family and work? "I am an absolute family person. I make sure whenever I get time, I go home or to my wife Keerti's sets to meet her. She is the love of my life and brings a smile to my face always," says the much-in love husband.

It's very different from acting. It's a new thing for me and I've taken it up as a challenge. My character in Saath Phere, Nahar Singh, has given me a name and now I am trying out a different field. I find the new role exciting where I have to be the best every day.
What made you accept this offer?
Firstly, it was a great opportunity. I knew the unit as I had worked with them earlier and I gel well with them. Secondly, Rock N Roll Family is a unique show, which is different from the dance shows that we see on TV. It's a pleasure to watch 75-year olds dance with their grandchildren. It not only gives one scope to see close-knit joint families, which are rare these days, it also extols family bonding. In fact after associating myself with this show I have made it a point to spent at least one hour every day with my mother after I return home from shooting (laughs). This show brings one closer to one's family.

Are we going to see you more frequently as a host?
I hope so (laughs). I am enjoying my soap immensely. Since acting is a vast field, I would love to play other roles in the showbiz.

Are you excited over sharing the screen space with Kajol, Ajay Devgan and Tanuja?
They are big stars and it's an honour for me to work with them. As an actor it's a matter of joy for me to meet a National Award-winning actor like Ajay and work with him.

How do you think Rock N Roll Family is going to stand out among other reality shows?
The show is a first-of-its kind on television. Concept wise it's different. Apart from that, faces that were not seen on reality shows earlier will be seen here.

What else are you doing?
Nothing much. Saath Phere and this show are enough for me. After this I might try out something. Offers of acting in films were there, but the roles didn't excite me.

Is Sharad Kelkar a family person?
Yes, very much. I do not party much and prefer spending time with my wife Keerti, my mother and other family members.

New family enters Saat Phere

Saat Phere will see the entrance of several new characters in the form of a new family after the end of Jijisa's (Nevidita Bhattacharya) track.

Executive producer Abdul talks about the current track and the new twists to come.

He says, "We have decided that the new family with new characters will be introduced on the show. It will bring a lot of drama to the storyline but we have not finalized anyone for the roles as yet. The new cast will make an entry within a few weeks."

Describing the current track on the show, Abdul says, "Brijesh's child with Jijisa has been kept in an orphanage by her. The family is not aware of it and is trying to find him. Within a few days, the family will find out where the child is and they will reveal the truth about Jijisa to everyone. That is how her track ends. Before this, Neel's and Nishi's wedding took place and so their respective tracks are not currently on the show."

The show now focuses on Jijisa. Previously on the show, Neel helped a pregnant Salouni when she lost her memory. Neel took care of her and his would be wife Nishi took her to her family. When Salouni recovered, she helped the couple get married. Even though the Neel and Nishi's track is not shown, it is said that their characters may enter the show again. Neel has left and come back to the show trice so far.
