In a span of just two years Rajshree Thakur aka Saloni of Saat Phere has been portraying different kinds of characters on her show. From playing the lead protagonist to a negative character, Rajshree now prepares herself to enact a woman who has lost her memory and reached the mental age of a five-year-old child in this show.

Rajshree will be seen in a different avatar now, in skirts, shirts and plaited-hair. Naturally, the actress is doing her homework to portray the character. She is currently at her mother's house and is spending time with kids.

The shooting for this role has begun and is scheduled to be telecast this week onwards.

When contacted, Rajshree says, "It is the creative team's decision to change the track of the show. In the story, I have lost my memory and become like a five-year-old child. I am excited about this and consider myself lucky to get variations in one character itself. I have been spending a lot of time with my niece and nephews and observing them too."

So are we going to see Rajshree doing Sridevi's (Laxmi) from Sadma? She replies, "I do not want to imitate anyone and make it look repetitive. Sadma is a great film and this is a daily soap, so they cannot be compared. Apart, from whatever I have observed in kids, I have my inputs too for this role."

The character of Saloni Singh in Zee TV's high-rated serial Saath Phere Saloni Ka Safar is to undergo an image change and will be seen wearing mini-skirts, see-through shirts and plaitedhair. Previous to this, Saloni was a simple 'bahu'. The transformation in Saloni's image comes as the character has suffered memory loss and her mental age is now of a five-year old.

Sharad down on his knees


Sharad Kelkar aka Nahar of Saat Phere had a recent mishap, but not on the sets of his serial. Sharad fell down at home and had his ligament torn. He now has his knee plastered for next 21 days. "I just fell down at my place on the 12th of December. It just happens when it is ought to, there is no how or why to it. Now I am sitting here with my left knee plastered for the next 21 days and still shooting", says Sharad disappointedly.


Kirti, his wife too is not keeping well. Kirti adds, "I am at home down with fever and cold. I think it is a viral and I caught it yesterday. I am just happy about the fact that everything happened before this year- end and Sharad will get well before this year- end and will be fit and fine on the first day of New Year."

So what about their New Year plans? Sharad replies, "All plans are failed now. We were planning to go to Goa. But as you know I am not in a position to go anywhere so we will just bring it in quietly this year at our place."

And as Kirti plays nurse we hope Sharad is back on his feet soon.

Sharad Kelkar who plays Nahar Singh is shooting these days for 'Saat Phere' with a plastered leg. Recently, he fell down in his house and tore a ligament which he says, 'is worse than a fracture because a fracture gets cured in 4-5 weeks but a ligament tear take around 2 months". Sharad was advised total bed rest but looking at the daily soap scenario today was unable to do so. So in spite of a plastered leg the actor had to go to work just two days after the incident.

When we spoke to Sharad he said, "I had this accident at home. It was very painful when we went to the doctor. He did all the scans and X-rays and told me about the ligament tear. He suggested bed rest for 3 weeks and I told him that it's not possible since I am a daily soap actor and can't take more than 2-3 days off. So he decided to plaster my leg from my thigh to my ankle as the knee should not move because the ligament first has to be joined and then strengthened. It is going to take me 2 months to recover from this. In my life of 30 years I have had my share of accidents but this is the first time that I have a plaster on my leg and it's quite irritating."

Sharad's driver is the one who is now helping Sharad to keep standing during the shoots. He says, "I can walk straight but climbing stairs gets difficult and I need help. My man Friday these days is my driver who has been a big support. The unit people from the director, the producers to everybody else too have been supportive."

At home his actress wife Kirti is giving him all the attention. "As she is not shooting much, she is by my side whenever she gets time. Kirti has been with me every time something wrong happened in my life. My mother who is also living with me is worried a lot because she saw me with a plaster for the first time. She was angry but understood that this is my work and I have to do it."

Now will his character on the show too get injured to make things easier for him a little? "I hope so as it will become easier for me to shoot. Till now I already have shot for 5 days with the plaster and had a talk with the production people. They may consider it but right now the writers have already written for 2 weeks and will have some difficulty in changing the plot. I hope they do something."

He adds, "In TV the show must go on. I had met an accident two years ago with my Ford Icon and had injured my knee. But I was running late for my shoot. So, I didn't did not even stop to discuss things with the taxi driver who had banged his car. That's the life we TV actors have and one has to get used to it."

Zee on the right track



ee TV which had displaced Sony from its No.2 position is posing a serious threat to the numero uno STAR Plus. Soaps like Saat Phere and Kasamh Se... got the numbers while their protagonists Saloni and Bani became icons. Banoo Mein Teri Dulhan and Maayka launched this year, grabbed eyeballs too.
Maayka though saw a change in the production house mid-way through the show. Initially produced by Classic Studios, the production house was sacked as they weren't providing a bank of episodes well in time. Unhappy with the incident, some of the actors like Nandita Puri, Sudhir Pandey and Neelima Kanetkar walked out of the show as a mark of support to the production house. Dheeraj Kumar's Creative Eye took over as the producer and roped in Aroona Irani to play the role of Durga initially played by Neelima. Now, Shoma Anand who is essaying the same role as Aroona has opted out.

Some of the other launches this year include Teen Bahuraaniyaan, Parivaar, Har Ghar Kuch Kehta Hai, Naaginn, Chaldi Da Naam Gaddi and Aladdin. Teen Bahuraniyan, a Paresh Rawal production, was recently in news for roping in Smriti Irani in her Tulsi avatar. The soap is pitted against Star Plus's Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Chaldi Da Naam Gaddi is the first JD Majethia show on the channel while Naaginn produced by Aroona Irani is a throwback to the era of Icchadari Nagin films which Sridevi ruled.

The original talent hunt of Indian television, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2007, reached a high with TRPs of 8.4 when Salman Khan appeared on it. Also, for the first time, the channel roped in Aditya Narayan, son of singer Udit Narayan, to host the show. It was also talked about for its greatly talented singers in Raja, Aneek, Sumedha and Amanat. What's more, most of the singers have been signed by established composers like Ismail Darbar, Vishal-Shekhar and Bappi Lahiri for playback singing. With top composers of today's times, Himesh Reshammiya, Vishal-Shekhar, Ismail Darbar and the self-styled Disco king Bappi Lahiri as judges, and special judges like Asha Bhonsle and Khayyam gracing a few episodes, the show was a ground for controversies, fights and makeups.

For the first time this year, Zee had its own awards Rishton Ka Utsav, a la Star Parivaar Awards, where-in all their actors and technicians were felicitated after a viewer voting.

Talking to an Indian daily, Rajshri confirmed, "I shoot 13 hours a day and since I play a typical daughter-in-law, I have to wear a sari all the time. I am quite fed up of dressing traditionally, always loaded with jewellery. When I'm not working or am going out with my husband I prefer to wear western clothes. If I have to drape a sari, I have to consider wearing suitable jewellery, my hairdo, whereas it's very easy and fast to put on a pair of jeans and a top."

The sexy starlet, who is famous for playing Saloni in Zee TV's Saath Phere, has even told her husband, Sanjyot Vaidya, only to gift her western outfits.

Rajshri Thakur aka Saloni of Saat Phere is quite unlike her character in the show. The actress, who is seen wearing saris all the time in the show, is quite tired of her on-screen traditional attire. She has now decided to put them aside and wear only western outfits. The actress has even given strict instructions to hubby, Sanjyot Vaidya, that he should gift her only western outfits.

Recently Rajshri went shopping with her husband who splurged on some funky western outfits. Our source reveals, "Rajshri is very fond of western clothes. Recently, she went shopping with her husband to a suburban mall and spent Rs 40,000 in one go. She is a compulsive shopper and Sanjyot didn't mind spending either."

When contacted, Rajshri confirms, "Yes, Sanjyot spent a lot of money on my clothes. Though I'm not brand conscious, I like Spanish brands because of I have a wide choice to select from."

She further says, "I shoot 13 hours a day and since I play a typical daughter-in-law, I have to wear a sari all the time. I am quite fed up of dressing traditionally, always loaded with jewellery. When I'm not working or am going out with my husband I prefer to wear western clothes."

When asked about giving instructions to hubby Sanjyot, she says, "He loves to gift me saris on festivals. But now I have requested him to gift me only western outfits. Thankfully, he is not complaining at all."

Saloni shooting with knee injury

Rajshree Vaidya aka Saloni of Saat Phere has injured her knee badly shooting for long hours. The actress has been advised best rest by her doctor but she is still shooting for the show.




Says Rajshree, "I'm recovering from the injury but there is some pain as I'm undergoing physiotherapy. My doctor has told me to take complete bed rest. According to him if I apply more pressure on my torn ligament it might require a small surgery. I don't want it as I am very scared of it. To avoid this, I have made a humble request to my director not to make me run or jump. But as per the current track, I have to behave like a 5-year-old child so I have to run which is very difficult for me."

Explaining her treatment, she says, "I massage my knee before the shoot and after it. I have to go to my doctor's clinic for the therapy and then I come for the shoot which I can't avoid. My husband is also taking care of me, so it's fine mentally while physically also I'm improving faster."

What kind of help are you getting from the production house? "They are taking care of me. They understand my pain but I can't stop shooting as I'm the lead so I'm doing my best."

Even co-star Sharad Kelkar (Nahar) has injured his left knee but he is also reporting to the work. Both the actors are being treated by the same physiotherapist Dr. Ali Irani at Nanavati hospital.

Well, seems like Saat Phere is in knee-deep trouble.

+Rajshree's husband loves her 'child' act

Rajshree Vaidya's (aka Saloni of Saat Phere) husband Sanjot is loving his wife's 'child' act in Saat Phere. In the serial Saloni is currently behaving like a 5-year-old kid.


Rajshree tells us, "Sanjot loves my role because before this I was trying to behave like a child at home also so for him it was nothing new. He was eagerly waiting for this act to come on air. Now it's almost been a month that Saloni has been behaving like a child. He was very happy to see me without a sari, wearing long skirts and tops. He tries to watch all episodes and finds it very funny to see me running and jumping."

Anything particular he loved the most? "Yeah there was one dream sequence where I had become Cinderella and danced. He liked that act so much that I had to do it at my place again."


The actress admits that she was anxious over how fans would react to her. "Yes I was worried but thankfully I'm receiving mails praising my acting. Earlier, only ladies used to love Saloni but now even kids are appreciating my role which is very good for my growth or my character and for the serial."

How long will your child act last in the serial? "I can't say much about it. As long as the creative heads want me to play it I will do so but on a personal level I'm enjoying my new avatar. It was a big challenge for me at the start as I had to do lots of research work for it. Even the channel people love it so it's up to them how long it will go"

Asked about the track in Saat Phere, she says, "I only know that Saloni will have to face hardships due to her child image so lots more to see for the audience in Saat Phere."

In the show, Saloni is behaving like a child as she had met with an accident and lost her memory. Incidentally, both the leads Rajshree and Sharad Kelkar are suffering from knee injury.
