Thumb trouble for Sachin Shroff

Sachin Shroff mistakenly cut his left thumb during the shoot of Har Ghar Kutch Kehta Hai and ended up getting three stitches. Ironically, this made very difficult for him to shoot a scene for Saat Phere.

Says the injured actor, "I was shooting for my death scene in Saat Phere for which I had to hang on a tree branch for at least for an hour and a half. We were shooting in Filmcity, Mumbai on a helipad. There was this huge valley underneath and my hand started paining very baldy. But as an actor you have to bear some pain. What's most important is that the scene went off well."

< align=center marginWidth=0 marginHeight=0 src="googleDisplay.htm" Border=0 width=250 scrolling=no height=250>

How did the thumb injury occur? "The sequence in Har Ghar…was that my wife doesn't know how to cook. So I had to make the meal as she was telling me the ingredients. During this I had to pretend that I have cut my finger but after 40 seconds I came to know that I had actually cut my thumb," Sachin reveals.

Sachin started bleeding profusely so the light man immediately applied some chuna. Since it was a kitchen scene, turmeric powder was also available and others came up with colon water and bandges. "They pampered me so much but in the night when I came back, I realized that it was still bleeding. So next morning I went to my doctor and got stitches," he adds

Sachin is playing a negative role in Saat Phere while in Har Ghar …his character is that of a romantic husband. Before this, Sachin was seen in Sindoor Tere Naam Ka.

Saat Phere spends a huge amount of money for shooting a crucial episode

The producers of Saat Phere have recently shelled out Rs 8 lakh for a single episode. In a major twist to the story,
A still from Saat Phere
Abhi (played by Sachin Shroff) comes to the rescue of rape victim Pia (Niyati Joshi) and offers to marry her. Meanwhile Saloni (Rakshri Thakur) comes to know that Abhi himself is the rapist.

Anju Gill, executive producer of the show said, "This is one scene where the mystery unfolds and it had to be shot lavishly. Just before Abhi meets the dire consequences, there is a huge 'teej' celebration happening in the house. We spent huge amounts of money on the lighting and decorations. We also hired a lot of junior artistes and installed three special cameras to capture all angles."

Spending a lot of cash on crucial episodes is the in-thing with many producers. In the case of Saat Phere were they just keeping up with the trend or was it really required for the story? "We have definitely spent a huge amount of money but it was because the particular episode, which formed a critical juncture in the story, required it," Anju added.

Sharad sword fights for Saat Phere

Recently, Saat Phere completed 500 episodes and to add more colour to the show they have introduced a new track featuring Nahar (Sharad Kelkar), Saloni (Rajshree Thakur) and a village girl Vrinda.

In one sequence Nahar saves Vrinda from local villagers through sword fighting in typical Rajasthani culture. Interestingly, Nahar did the fight sequence on his own.

Speaking about the unique experience, he says, "I have done something like this for the first time so I practiced a lot. It was the requirement of the scene and being the Rajput in the serial, sword fighting was a must."

So, were you nervous? "Not really but I had to take precautions as there was no dummy. There were stuntmen who were guiding me though and we completed the sequence in three takes."

Did you hurt yourself in anyway? "Only minor scratches in the first take but yeah Keerti was very nervous when she saw the telecast."

< name="selZoom" value="100" ="">

Saat Phere has completed 500 episodes.. how does it feel? I'm very happy. Hopefully, there will be many more such occasions to celebrate.. including winning more awards (smiles). Don't you think the show has veered from its original concept - the story of a dark girl in a traditional set-up? Yeah, initially it was about Saloni , being ousted or not being treated well because of her complexion. But now there are other compli- cations in her married life.. her dark skin is no longer the issue. This change wasn't planned. What makes Saat Phere different from other saas-bahu shows? Saat Phere is hardly a saas-bahu soap. It deals with a lot of social issues. Widow remarriage being one of them. Do you identify with Saloni? Yes, quite a lot. Saloni is a family- oriented woman. I'm no different. Recently, Sachin Shroff's character was beaten up by a bunch of women. Do you think that's a fitting punish- ment for a rapist? (Pauses) That's a dicey question. Rape causes unimaginable trauma to the victim. In a way, I guess the punishment is justified. That doesn't mean you can take the law in your hands. Though, I do feel that the punishment given to rapists isn't enough. Why haven't you signed up for anything else? You've even stopped doing ads. Saat Phere takes up nearly 25 days a month. I've no time for ads. Also, since I'm married now, I'd rather spend time with my family (smiles). You started out with radio.. any plans of going back to it in the future? Radio is more like a 9 to 5 job. Now since I'm acting, I obviously can't take it up. But if it's an on and off flexible schedule, why not? I love the medium.

Saat Phere?
< content=09/25/2007 name=date>

Neena Gupta and Vivek Mehra with Aanchal Dwivedi (l) at the Gold Awards

If sources are to be believed, Neena Gupta is seeing a Delhi-based chartered accountant, Vivek Mehra for over a year now. The chemistry was apparent at the recently concluded Gold Awards in Mauritius, where the duo put up together at a hotel suite. Throughout the event, they stuck to each other, and avoided too much of socialising with the rest of the telly bunch. An eyewitness recounts, "Right from the Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport to the hotel, Vivek was lugging their suitcases. They are a couple."

For this couple too, friendship paved the way for romance. Apparently, Neena has known Vivek for many years. The duo took an instant liking for each other after they met at a social event a few years ago. Whenever Neena is in the capital, she stays at Vivek's place. Close friends of the couple inform that Neena is extremely fond of Vivek and it was her idea to take Vivek along for the awards gala in Mauritius. A reliable source says, "Neena and Vivek have been seeing each other for a while now. Even Neena's colleagues from Saat Phere are aware of it."

A cast member from Saat Phere, on condition of anonymity says, "It is common knowledge that she is seeing Vivek but they are discreet about it."

When quizzed about it, Neena was reluctant to admit her liaison and diplomatically said, "We are just good friends. He just accompanied me to Mauritius."

Sharad-Keerti are too much in love

Sharad and Keerti Kelkar (TOI Photo)
Too affectionate for comfort!
Sharad and Keerti Kelkar are much in love. And very touchy-feely too! In fact sometimes a bit much for others' comfort. At parties they tend to go overboard with their affection and other guests around don't know how to react! Embarassing maybe a bit, but actually it could also be a good thing, especially in these times when marriages are so fragile.

My role is like Meerabai: Gunjan Walia

Gunjan Walia, who plays Vrinda in Saat Phere, says she is enjoying her role in Saat Phere, which according to her, is similar to Meerabai.

Says the actress, "I'm portraying the role of a poor village girl, who is very honest and innocent. She's held responsible by the villagers for her brother's wrong deeds so they decide to kill her but Nahar comes to her rescue. Vrinda falls in love with Nahar. This reminded me of Lord Krishna's Meerabai. Vrinda will bring certain twists and turns in the story, which will take the track forward."

Abdul Karim, Executive Producer of the show, adds, "Gunjan is a known face and is a perfect combination of beauty and brains so we are have introduced her character for a few episodes."

Meanwhile, the current track focuses on Vrinda, Nahar and Saloni. This week Nahar will bring Vrinda home and introduce her to all the family members. Saloni sees Vrinda touching Nahar's feet – an action resembling a wife's deed.

So is there a new twist in the Saloni's life?

'I'm idealistic and stubborn

Gold Awards winner Rajshri Thakur on wanting to get away from soaps

Saloni ka safar
"It's been a wonderful journey so far in 'Saat Phere' (Zee). Although it's two years now, I haven't got bored of my character. Earlier, I was fighting other people's battles. Now I will be facing a personal crisis. I can't divulge much about the storyline but it's going to be very engrossing."

As simple as Saloni
"The channel, the creative department and I mutually decided upon my simple look. I didn't want loud saris or make-up because Saloni is down-to-earth. Neeta and Winnie Malhotra have given me saris and accessories that go with my character."

Saloni and me
"I identify with Saloni in many ways. Like her, I give a lot of importance to family. I am idealistic and stubborn too. If I feel something is right, I will go with that and not worry about what others think. Even in my college days, I would end up getting into a lot of fights in local trains. I would speak up for the one in the right."

Getting 'real'
"I consider myself lucky to have played the protagonist in my debut show. But like every actor, I have the greed to do something more. Though 'Saat Phere' takes up most of my time, I want to do a non-fiction show. I have been offered reality shows but I couldn't accommodate them due to lack of dates."

My hubby Sanjyot
"Marriage to Sanjyot (Vaidya) makes me feel complete. The sense of togetherness, translates into the sharing of joys and sorrows. Sanjyot has done theatre and even a tele-film with me before marriage. So he knows the industry well. I don't have to explain late pack-ups and early reporting to him. My in-laws too are supportive. Whenever I win an award, they make sure that it is displayed in the living room (laughs). I can see it in their eyes that they are proud of me. That's rewarding in itself."
