1) ae hairaten aashiqui for me is just a decent song. I have heard similar sounding songs from ARR in many previous movies. That song has nothing new to offer in terms of music of arrangements.
2) In JA, the man mohana song is again decent. It is a bhajan and has its limitations but if you see his works like Radha Kaise na jaale then it is no where in comparison. Even the bhajan from Lagaan, O Palanhare was a far more soothing composition
3) Sarfaroshi from Bhagat singh, I do like a lot but i prefer mera rang de, when I saw the song in the album, i had a particular tune and song in mind but when i heard his version, i thought it was very different. He kept is more soft and Sonu's vocals took the song to another level.
4) In Swades - I did not like yeh tara at all. Pal Pal hai bhari was very good. But the best song of the movie for me was 'Dekho na' and i thought Alka sang beautifully. Even the song Yuhi chala chal was a good track which starts as an average track and gets better as it goes along.
The songs which he has given - Choti si asha, Dil Se re, CHaiyan Chiyan, Tu hi re, Chanda re chanda re, hai rama yeh, urvashi urvashi etc etc. Tell me which song of his in the recent past can touch those levels. Do you think that JA, JTYJN, Mangal Pandey, Guru, One two ka four, are any where close to these ??? Even Saathiya, Lagaan & RDB are close but still not what it used to be.

Looks like we hv very different tastes wrt music.....To each his own.🙂....In my opinion,ae hairatein aashiqui is a very good song elevated to "masterpiece" status by hariharan's singing............Man mohana is again an excellent song with a tune which is very difficlt to grasp but still sounds gr8 ,sung very beatifully(albeit in a slightly high scale) by bela...again,I personally loved sarfaroshi ki tamanna more than "mera rang de basanti chola ....loved radha kaise na jale too but didn't care much for o palanhare....it lost its touch bcoz Lataji has sung it...her voice really sounds bad in these songs 🥰...i loved dekho na as much as pal pal hai(different styles).....also liked "yun hi chala chal"
I never thought dil hai chota sa was gr8 (except for the first few times whn i heard it and it sounded fresh)....very soon i felt that it had too strong a nursery rhymish touch....Urvashi was also never among my favs.....dil se re and tu hi re were good but not outstanding.......so looks like we hv alag alag pasand🥰.....Good for ARR that he caters to a huge crowd with various interests...My pasand is probably not much in sync with the general pasand(more of buddhon ki pasand 😉😆😆)
Yes,ARR's music is not wht it once was...at one time almost every song was different and sounded gud(if not gr8)...now some songs sound very mediocre, but he still comes up with some tunes that i l really luv 😀

ARR's Iruvar(tamil film) has lot of influence of IR music...

Let me now put down a link of IR composing a song with just 3 notes and Shreya Ghosal singing the song!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwGeHvOCxfQ

also IR has composed song with just arohanam... All those who understand Tamil, will understand this link better... But for those who dont understand, its IR composing a song with just 3 notes Sa Ri Ga 🙂

Do listen and enjoy!!!

yes Anu, the song kalaivaniye from Sindu bharivai is indeed a very good composition and a challenge for a composer
Another composition by ARR known becoz he has used no muical instruments in it 🙂

Well he is based in Brazil now for work and keeps making trips too and fro. He is the one who got me hooked to the forum and some other sites so that I keep have some timepass to do when i am free. I am based in Mumbai. Some people keep running all their life and dont have the time for themselves.
I will tell him that someone misses his posts, he will be happy😜. As far as the jhalak well what to do, he has turned me into an HR supporter from a hater ! (Actually having met him a few times, he is not such a bad person, really nice god fearing honest guy).

Well its good to have different tastes but you like him and I like ARR too maybe our choices n reasons for liking are very diff. So that proves it, he has the universal appeal - something in his music for everyone.
Atleast we agree on the gist of our discussion which you have mentioned in your last para and i have mentioned in earlier posts.

RA here is a gift for HR supporters, read what ARR has to say about HR:

Rajeev Masand: I also know that you were committed to doing Kamal's film Dasavatharam, which you couldn't because time constraints did not allow you.

AR Rahman: Yes at that particular time, I was doing many things. I was travelling and Kamal ji wanted me to give the music immediately and it was a huge film. I knew the kind of work it would require. I knew I could not do justice in that short period.

Rajeev Masand: You were replaced then by Himesh Reshammiya. Were you insulted ?

AR Rahman: No, not at all. Himesh did the songs but I think Devi Sri Prasad did the background music.

Rajeev Masand: Have you heard the music?

AR Rahman: No, I have not heard the music.

Rajeev Masand: He has also sung in Tamil.

AR Rahman: I would love to listen to it.

Rajeev Masand: What do you think of him as a singer? You have used so many Bombay voices. You have introduced so many people in the music industry. How come you haven't found anything for Himesh?

AR Rahman: I think he has got a particular style. I have heard him very closely and I think he is capable of much more. In fact we were co-judges in a show for a channel. So, I am waiting for the right song for Himesh. I like him as a person and I wish him all the best.

Rajeev Masand: You know that he is a movie actor now as well.

AR Rahman: Yes I know. Awesome.
