Its actually true guys!!! the lyrics are not something u can rave about ... just listen to chandralekha and another song 'thee thee' from thiruda thiruda ... its the music and the tune of the song that hits you ... the words dont even register ... in fact all i cud initially make out in chandralekha was 'chandralekha' and thee thee in 'thee thee'
But on the other hand u have pudhiya mugham ... its a gem of an album .. majority of the songs are pure melody and a few like 'july matham' and 'sambo sambo' stand out for near senseless words but divine music!!!
Take rangeela ... are the words in 'rangeela re', 'yaaro sun lo', 'ai ai o' and even 'tanha tanha' of any real value or collector items ???? but the music ... now doesnt that make u overlook the lyrics (and even shweta shetty's voice in 'ai ai o' 😆) and thats ARR's magic ...
now its a different matter that i dont really like his latest works all that much 🙂

Just my 2 cents coz I too feel that in the recent few years ARR's music quality has gone down. I get the feeling that since he has become a big name in the west and is doing Bombay dreams and other musicals, his interest levels in Bollywood are really down.
ARR the genius which we saw in his earlier days gave phenomenal music in Roja, Bombay, Dil Se, Sapnay, Hum Se hai Muqabla, rangeela, Muthu, etc etc.
YOu pick-up any song from these movies and the music was great. Then from 2000 his levels have dropped with an occasional glimpse of the past and a one off great score like RDB.
He gave music in a SRK movie called - One two Ka Four, and that was atrocious music as per his standards. His music in Mangal Pandey was a big let down after the super score in Lagaan.
Even his music in Guru i felt was not good and was last years most hyped score. Baring out a brilliant Barso re and a decent Bin tere Kya jeena all the other songs were not good - Jodiyan ek nahi do was a nightmare and even Maiyya Maiyya was not a good composition although with Mallika and promotion, the song did well.
These days his albums have just 1 or 2 good songs and the rest are Bekar like in Jodha Akbar, the Jashne Bahara number & Azeemo Shaan are great, Khwaja is okay, rest are bad. In his earlier films all songs used to be gems.
Since 2000 he has given sporadic glimpses of the past like in Saathiya, Lagaan & RDB but in between them have been albums which laced with just a couple of good compositions and some average stuff.
Not what we expect from the great man.
He needs to get back his focus and also decide if his interests lie Hollywood or Bollywood. ARR is like Roger Federer, in the earlier days both were way ahead and untouchable in terms of talent but off late both have maybe lost the hunger or focus and the chinks are starting to show but still their level is far better than the average jack. However as an audience, having seen their earlier brilliance, we dont want to settle for anything less than that.

R.D.B has scored for some period movies....the best among them being(in my opinion) Amar prem..classic songs each one 👏🏻.But .Ijaazat was not a period movie, nor was Sadma🙂
Hridaynath Mangeshkar isa class apart and cannot even be spoekn abt in the same breath as most of the above MDs...his songs of lekin and many others(though not commercially popular) are real gems......that is asli music 😀

Now he is a legend indeed 👏🏻 ... very little work in hindi ... just listen to his marathi songs 👏🏻 most are pure magic 🙂

Thanks, so he has been slacking lately. I know I did not like the songs in Guru. Looks like he has to wake up to his Glory days. Looks like he really raised the bar very high in the past.
But I thought normally an MD hires several lyricists and song writers to come up with some pieces they can use, and also put it their own finishing touches. So if they get a pretty good bunch of musicians to help out then they are lucky.

Hello friends

How can we forget P K Mishra, I think with his cheap and meningless lyrics he killed many of the ARR's songs. We are used to high quality lyrics from Javed saab, Gulzar and others. These Hindi translations from Tamil were a big let down.

I agree with you we can't discuss perhaps them and contemporary composers like RDB or IR in one breath. When people like HNM get work we get immortal tunes.

Also I must mention that HN Mangeshkar saab and other musicians we are talking about are composing in different style and mode.

I often get intrigued by the fact HNM sir perhaps has not used Asha tai or has he..???

Among all period films ARR did, I would personally rank Zubeida very high, all songs were great esp that one Mehandi hai rachne wali is all time classic...!!

I agree Jodha Akbar (which was some how praied in high heavens) was actually a let down, now this was a period film where brilliance of ARR was much needed.
