I think there were quite a few sad songs in golden era period that were fast paced. If not fast paced, they cannot be called slow songs. The movie that comes to my mind immediately is Dil Ek Mandir. All the sad songs from this movie are fast or relatively fast paced/high pitched. And all these songs are conventional sad songs...meaning there is no anger/frustration etc.

1. ham tere pyar mein sara aalam kho baithe

In this song "tum kehete ho ki aise pyar ko bhul jaao" and the starting lines of all antaras are fast paced/high pitched.

2. ruk jaa raat theher ja re chanda

This songs is mostly fast paced/high pitched. None of the lines in mukhada or anatara are slow

3. yaad na jaaye bite dinon ki

mukhada starts bit slow but becomes fast later and all antaras start with fast pace.

Here is one song that qualifies perfectly as a fast sad song. It is Dil ke jharokhe mein tujhko bithakar from Brahmachari

... and Punjini this song might also be considered as a song with a memorable instrumental prelude.

As I stretch my mind, I find so many golden era sad songs that are not at all slow songs.. some of them are really fast paced/hig pitched song and some are medium paced that definitely cannot be called slow songs. I am listing below some songs of Rafi sahab (being my most favorite singer of all time, his songs come to my mind very easily). Some songs start fast while some start slow but pick up pace later in the mukhada or in the antaras.

- subah na aayi shaam na aayi (Cha Cha Cha)
- jaane wale jara mudake dekho mujhe (Dosti)
- teri galiyon mein na rakhenge kadam aaj ke baad (Hawas)
- ehasaan tera hoga mujh par (Junglee)
- tujhko pukare mera pyaar (Neel Kamal)
- patthar ke saman tujhe hamane mohabaat ka khuda jana (Pathar Ke Sanam)

- ghum uthane ke liye main to jiye jaaunga (Mere Huzur)
- aap ke pehlu mein aakar ro diye (Mera Saya)
- dil jo keh saka wohi raaz-e-dil kaheni ki raat aayi (Bahu Begam)
- dono ne kiya tha pyaar mujhe yaad raha tu bhul gayi (Mahuwa)

Salilji, most of the songs you have listed could be called medium-paced songs, not fast, but not slow either (makes me feel I am discussing cricket!).

Trishankuji, dil ke jharokon mein tujhko bithakar is such a great song and the beats are so different.

well, I don't quite agree. Many songs are fast, and few are medium paced but they do pick up the pace later.

dono ne kiya, dil jo kaha saha, tujhako pukare mera pyaar.. are not medium paced to me, though they are not as fast paced dil ke jharoko mein...

Is Dil jo na keh saka a sad song? I have not seen the movie but I always used to think it is a typical love song, which expresses the qualities of love rather than sadness as such.
