hmm u mean songs like

" woh shaam kuch ajeeb thi yeh shaam bhi ajeeb hai

woh kal bhi paas paas tha woh aaj bhi kareeb hai "

but then dont these songs take u down the memory lane 😉 and further getting into nostalgic mood only to make u kinda sad even if its momentary?

Nice topic. Most of the sad songs are slow, isn't it? One of favourites is kiska rastaa dekhe from Joshilaa sung by the inimitable Kishore. Pain oozes out of his voice and the anguish and helplessness expressed in the lyrics... uff. You identify your some stage of life with it without fail. It connects ...

ah! u see where i come from 😉. i mean , am too lousy with the lyrics.😆

anyways, " woh shaam" is a sentimental song and soothing too but is also laced with gloominess ,i feel. listen to the opening piece and background score . so for me this song frames into sad mood.

on the similar lines, i can think of " ek pyaar ka nagma hai" . these songs do have a depth and gravity which pulls you , and transits you into emotional mood.

qwerts, hello there!! exchanging greetings with you after ages. 😊 .

yes, even i think, u have to be in that serious mood to really enjoy sad songs. or even if you arent, you do tend to get one, and you may want to switch to some light hearted music. 😆 .

i would like to mention two old songs

jeevan ke safar me rahi milte hai bichad jane ko

the song had two versions,a slow one and a fast paced one..but it remains a sad song

another song that had two versions was

ai mere dil kahin aur chal
gham ki duniya se dil bhar gaya
dhun le ab koi ghar nays

But jeewan ke safar mein rahi (fast version) is not meant to be sad at all. If you see the song, Dev Anand is teasing Nalini Jaywant throughout the song; it's more like a philosophical but cheerful song in the fast version. The slow one is of course sad.

In ai mere dil kahin aur chal, I think both the versions are slow, though one is slower than the other, and yes, both are sad.
