Album : Khoya Khoya Chand (2007)
Director: Sudhir Mishra
Producer: Adlabs & Prakash Jha
Music: Shantanu Moitra
Lyrics: Swanand Kirkire
Label: Big Music

Director Sudhir Mishra through his films has proved that he has a skill to identify quality music. And Shantanu Moitra has given some really classic tracks. And in this album these two have come together to bring back some memories of retro-styled music going with the film's theme.

Khoya Khoya Chand - Swanand Kirkire, Ajay Jhingran

The title song Khoya Khoya Chand – It is a folk or we can say qawali style song; a peppy yet has a steady melody. Kirkire the lyricist takes the lead vocal in the song with Ajay Jhingran and Shantanu's lively background.

Yeh Nigahein - Sonu Nigam, Antara Choudhury

The jazz style music created is really delightful. Shantanu took us back to 50's 60's with his song "Kaisi Paheli" in Parineeta and again he has done it with this song. The song is so rich and full of so many instruments, it's so playful. The Bass, piano, flute, trumpet, Spanish guitar all come together bringing back the memories of the same 50's music that had the international music touch and which became a craze then.

Chale Aao Saiyan - Shreya Ghoshal

A thumri by Shreya, and she is so soothing. Shantanu earlier did marvelous job with "Na Aaye Piya" his earlier thumri and he has done the same even here in this song. I really luved this song.

Khushboo Sa - Hamsika Iyer

This song will again bring back the memories of the music in the 50's. This time its hyper bass and other instruments used in the song but again it's playful and seductive somewhat similar to Yeh Nigahein. Hamsika has done an excellent job here in this song bringing that emotion so well. Somehow I personally found this song better than Yeh Nigahein.

O Re Paakhi - Soni Nigam

Sonu and Shantanu again takes us back to the Golden Era and if you listen to the song the composition will remind of the maestro's of that era. Shantanu tried to keep that effect as much as possible in this song. Sonu though I felt was bit uncomfortable in the song but maybe I am wrong.

Sakhi Piya - Pranav Biswas, Shreya Ghoshal

This song is predominantly tardy despite the occasional sprightly notes. Another semi-classical number and Shantanu kept it simple but pure. His classical numbers are really commendable.

Thirak Thirak - Soni Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal

Thirak thirak, shines with unrestrained words by Swanand. Best is the percussional intro. This song had that typical Shantanu signature so sounds as if you have heard it before.

Thanx a lot Appa for sending the album...u made my day today.😊 here's my own views on the songs. When u hear them u get a feeling that u are listening to remastered retro songs.

Didi, Thanks for sharing. Just today I got the CD and listen to it and Didi I did listen to it several times so far. It is Ok I am not so thrill about it. Honestly he used his emotion to compose Khoya Khoya Chand keeping (Parineeta) in his mind. There is nothing he had created to get excited. Only one Song that I have liked and still listning to it.

Chale Aao Saiyan - Shreya Ghoshal

Agreed it looks to bit continuation of Parineeta but still loved the tracks. Somehow after downloading them I have already listened to them too many times now.😆

The best for me was Chale Aao Saiya and Thirak Thirak. Somehow did not like O Pakhi Re. Sonu could not generate that magic. Rest I really loved. Especially the combination of rhythm and melody, hearing such an album after a long time.

Good effort to create an oldie 😃. I laughed at the thought of SD or Salil Choudhury listening to this and probably turning up their noses a little. Anyway, I would love to see more current MDs trying to create an effect like this. The first thing I like about these kind of songs is that the voices of singers are not drowned in phoney techno music - the voices sound real if you know what I mean...
