I was little surprised when Amanat was singing this song, the credit for the original song was shown as Film: Masoon, Music: RD Burman, Singer: Lata Mangeshkar.

This song has both male and female versions in the film with male version sung by famous Bengali singer Dr. Anup Ghosal.

The first antara (stanza) of the song sung by Lata and Anup Ghosal is same (jeene ke liye socha hi nahi, dard sambhalane hoge) which Amanat sang. Since Amanat was singing the song, the male singer's name instead of female singer's should have been shown. Don't you feel so? I think many people do not know that Anup Ghosal sung the male version of the song and he sung it equally well. His name should have rightfully appeared in credits.

i was wondering the same thing! cause in the movie masoon i swear it was a little boy [shatrugun sinha] how was the orphan and shouldn't the song also be in a male voice? even though woman do voices for children!
thanks for the information 😃

The Lata ji version somehow seems to be more popular. Even in Gulzar Saab's album he has that one.

Salil bhai:

I know Amanat sang the song very well but I think that the way everyone praised him was little overboard. No doubt that he sang the song well, but not that great.

It was the magic of the song. Wonderful composition by the magician and the wonderful lyrics by Gulzar saab. I think if any singer sings this song the effect would be same.

lol...😆! Can't refute that now.

Mika is not even a decent singer..but any good singer can make a good attempt at this song..its really not a very difficult song to sing..that magic is really in its lyrics and composition!

I agree appa. The only change I would suggest is instead of "any singer", I would say "any accomplished singer" (so Mika is immediately excluded 😆 )

Also, I have seen in the other threads, people are going overboard giving credit to only Gulzar. No doubt Gulzar has penned this song so well, but it is the words and heart-wrenching compostion together that has made this song so effective. So RD equally deserves credit for the song, not just Gulzar.
