First a message for all the contestants too. U all plz get in touch with your mentors at the earliest and do stay in touch. They hav been assigned to help u out.At times there are very minor errors which could be easily rectified with guidance from them.

but if u all submit the first recording itself to the mentors as final recording on the last day with those errors, they are then helpless. Now the contest has reached a stage where one small error can get u eliminated. so plz its a request from the co-ordination team that u all get in touch with your mentors as early as possible and take their full guidance.

now my review. Sorry but not too happy with this round. for the first time maybe its a round where i dnt feel like listening to a song again.😕

Aparna :

Sorry Aparna this is for the first time that I am finding fault in your singing. At higher notes your voice is shaking. Maybe because of the song genre… 😕 Many words have either been pronounced wrong or not clear. It's "Sawan" but u seem to be saying "Saban" Also words like "Khatir" u seem to be keeping the "R" silent.Whenever u are ending the lines like "Shola Sawan Dehke aake bujha ja aaaa…" the "aaa" part is shaking a lot. But above all the masti feeling, the zing that is needed in this song is less. But on the whole very good attempt especially keeping in mind that u are not comfortable singing this type of songs.👏

Ashish :

Ashish if u had been one note high maybe the song would hav come out perfect. Very tough song to sing I agree. Low notes are not okay infact quite shaky. (Bappida's common dialogue) I feel this problem could hav been rectified if u had started at a note high maybe. Needed more feeling… Last few rounds i hav noticed that u are technically correct but somehow dnt keep the feel of the song fully.

Cindu :

Really good attempt this time Cindu!! But u need to work on your diction. Technically u are usually always sound and maintained the same in this round too.

Lavanya :

Another tough song and good attempt! The alaap part maybe needed more workouts. U hav problem with breath control Lavanya. Also the sweet emotion that's there in the original song is absent. It needed more feeling.

Mamta :

Mamta I hav always maintained u need to sing at a lower note than the original song if the song is at high scale. U too hav a breath control problem… because of this when u are going at high notes and trying to keep the control on sur, u are getting too nasal. Also please work on your "R's" too. Listen to the part "mitwa mere yaar…" and u will know what I want to mean.

Raju :

Sorry u too are technically wrong this time Raju. After the yodeling at starting u abruptly change the scale of the song and its too evident. Infact at many other places there is bit of scale problem this time. The flow of the song is also missing at many places.

Sarita :

U started at a low scale and it seems u are trying to suppress your voice. The feeling in the song is completely missing. Starting was really too shaky but after sometime u pick up a lot. But I feel u can do much much better than what u did this time.

Seema :

The flow is missing in the song. at the end of the song it is giving an impression that u lost interest in singing. U too hav a problem in diction… many of the words like "Sainkroo" has not been done properly. Many words are not even clear. They were left incomplete.

Tina :

Again a tough song for u Vidya… and a very good attempt I must say. U started off very well but later u messed up with scale, flow and control all. again I feel it was due to problem in breath control. U could not maintain the momentum, singing at such a high scale.

Yes, even a half-note higher would have been nice. But really, in this song it is difficult to sing correctly and at the same time retain the feeling. Just too difficult!

Agree with you that there is a problem with scales. Had there been some background music or even just a tanpura, it would have been easier to not lose the scale. However, I would say that this song is by the far the best in this round with respect to being true to the feelings/spirit of the original song.

Sorry sahana but none of the contestants had this benefit. Ashish has sung that song in proper scale, even Aparna did it without any other help. Those were really tough ones. Lavanya's song was really tough one and that she is technically wrong in the alaap is evident. even she could hav done better if she had this benefit.

I personally feel that songs sung with problems in scale can never be defended. rest all i can still go along. And that too from one of the best contestants!! I could not stop myself from calling him and giving him a peace of my mind.😆 Felt bad later for the bholuram when he was himself feeling sorry... Somehow i am getting a feeling he recorded the song without proper practice.

In this song, our main issue was keeping the melody intact. That's why the "aaa" was stretched out. Also, she has sung this song in a slightly different style from the original.

I agree...However, in this case, I did not make a mention of raising a semitone as it would have been a tradeoff between sounding flat at the low octave and sounding false at the high octave.

😆 You are great! Poor Raju is suffering because of his proximity to you in terms of distance. Imagine, if you could have called all the contestants to scold them! 😆

I try to avoid giving excuses but I really cannot avoid it this time (in fact, there are 2 rounds worth of excuses here 😉).

I know I could have sung at a half-note higher. Singing at the same scale as Rafi was virtually impossible. However, as Barnali ji knows, I was recovering from a bad case of sinusitis. I had lost my voice for almost a month. I could not even submit my favorite song for the LP round. 'Yeh jo chilman hain' was not even my first choice. However, that was the best of all the kaccha recordings I had made before I got affected by the sinusitis. To be frank, although that was a kaccha recording, I don't think I could have done much better with that one. Just that I actually had another song in mind for that round and could not submit it because of the throat problems.

OK, coming to this round. I had just recovered from my sinusitis when I made this recording. I left for my vacation in India (which is where I am now). At the time, I could only sing at this scale. I did try a slightly higher scale but my voice was cracking at the highest notes. I thought I would give it another shot after another week or so. I don't know if I would have been successful in my attempt but with all the last-minute preparations for the India trip, that went by the wayside.

OK, I think that is enough of my dukh-bhari kahaani 😆. I know almost all contestants have gone through something like this in one round or the other.

Hi Ashish, despite all the problems you did a commendable job, and you didn't even lose scale at any place. 😃
