I don't compare ARR with RDB or Ilaiyaraja ji or greats like Naushad Sahab, but what Rahman has done to Indian music and it's listeners inside and outside of India is really incredible one. They are all greats legends no question on that, but to win 4 national awards, 17 filmfare awards and Padmashree at so young age and so many other in just 15 years that should tell us that he have something special to do with his music that's why I believe Rahman is a gem even I am very hesitant to call him the greatest. But he is great. Yes I do listen to Raja ji and love his composition.

Thanks for the article Niraj.

I am sure that ARR was infliuenced by IR yet I don't know if you can compare
as they went separate routes. Just as I would never compare the works of
Hemanta and Shymal Mitra though both of their works are very Bengali to
me.

It is a shame that more people are not familiar with IR's work outside of
South India. There are so many great talents in both singing and composing
in regional music that much of India never hears about. Perhaps someone
should start a thread on "great singers and composers that most of you
probably don't know"

Both are great in their own way. While IR has made a special place for himself in the Indian musical industry and lasted for over 3 decades, AR has had his own great achievements too. AR is probably one of the most recognized Indian MD at an international level composing for foreign scores like that of "lord of the rings" etc. You never make a comparison between two legends so this debate about who is better is futile IMHO.

That just proves your ignorance... Did you even know from where ARR started?

BTW. sinhaji, nice article as always. Raja is truely a maestro and ARR is also almost there. Love them both.

Try this link but then please listen to the songs of Cheeni Kum. It is
unfortunate that such a great artist is unknown to anyone in the forums
given the discussions about him.
