How contradictory of two statements.... I never said that he cant be a legend.... I always maintained that for me he can not be a legend, because I am not much obsessed with his work.... So cant it be my personal choice?????

Again the point I wanted to make across has been said by Punjiniji.... that their work was good because they had good lyricist, good musicians, and good singers.... it also goes with last weeks quote of the week....

Legend n. an extremely well known, famous, celebrated, renowned person.

By those standards, with all due respect, Khayyam saab doesn't fall in the same category as even Himesh, let alone the Beatles or Elvis.

Many people often tend to confuse maestros with legends. Khayyam saab was/is a maestro - not a legend.

Anyway, going by your post I think it's time this debate ends here once and for all ... however, I would just like to add that not every student having access to the best of facilities and the best schools end up being a topper ... there's no substitute for talent whatever be the environment around you ...

I agree with ur statement of no substitute of talent.... i give another example.... A guy tops, he has all the facilities of studies, ample confort and all the things provided to him.... another guy tops without much facilities has to work hard to even get the books to read... and has light problems... though has average facilities to study.... then what would u say???? tell the guy with ample facilities to go through this and it will fail....😃

lol. and then there are people who confuse salesmen with legends. i mean walmart is great at selling product, but one cant exactly take their products as shining examples of hi-fashion, can we? 😆

So an award determines whether someone is a legend ? All those freedom fighters that we revere ... most of them never recieved any award .. aren't they legends in their field ... what about all those history book characters .... legends are not made with awards but are made of immortality ...

These days you can buy awards .. watch any award function and you would know what goes in and out of the show ... 😉

Let's not debate on what a legend is ... Khayyam's music is immortal and that's what makes him a legend ....

If fifty years from now, Himmy Mia is remembered in the same breath and his music will be heard as it is heard now ... well we will bracket him in the same category ...

As to the example that you have provided, both are toppers - it doesn't matter whether you had or didn't have the facilities ... simply because we worship the rags-to-riches story doesn't take the credit away from people who were lucky enough to have more than a few facilities ...

Walmart is legendary, yes. Not because they sell great products or sell them at low prices. But because they have been around for longer than any other similar chain, and they are still going strong. And, to follow the dictionary meaning, it's a very famous and renowned chain.

As for absolute truths - nothing that isn't proven scientifically beyond doubt is absolute. Subjective opinions are definitely not absolute.
