When I hear the song "yeh mera dil yaar ka deewana" from Don , and listen to the astounding beats and orchestration, I just cannot believe that Kalyanji Anandji composed it! This is completely RD Burman's style. Even "Main hoon Don" and "Khaike paan banaras waala" are so much like RD's music.

Both Kalyanji Anandji and R.D Burman have been accused of Plagiarism, however both of them use to be inspired, for the politically correct😆(for non-PC plagiarized😉) from outside India, perhaps they were sharing the source, that is why you think they seem similar 😆

I know RDB loyalists dont like to be reminded of this 😉

I think it is somewhat similar to what Bappi Lahiri proudly proclaims " I am proud of the fact that i brought this disco beat to india" !!

If I am not mistaken, orchestration is completely a western concept. In India, we had the concept of a single instrument, say a veena played with some percussion instrument like mridangam, but I think this concept of dozens of musicians playing in a synchronised manner has come from the west.

RD is certainly not the inventor of orchestration. Shankar Jaikishan, Salil Choudhury and others were already using it in a big way.

But you know what? It is important to listen to both the original and so-called copy closely. Many of the examples are not justified at all. But people will just go by the printed word instead of listening and analysing.

For example, "Saagar kinaare" is supposed to be inspired by "tum na jaane kis jahan mein kho gaye" but to me, these songs sound so so different from each other.

There are 3-4 songs on that list which you can make out it is a lift, some you cannot, if you want listen to all of them listed there, you will find similarities. I dont have time again today to look at all the songs there, but there are past threads

enough to form a pattern

Babla mehta, son of Kalyan ji i think, used help them for the songs of faster tempo. He had a big orchestra called Disco dandia in the 80s.
